Personally, the 2023 XPS is a better device. The escape and function keys should be physical keys, not only is it worst for typing, the 'peace of mind' knowing that when I press a key, I know it was pressed is a big deal. The fact that the RAM is not upgradable and there being only one m.2 slot is also pathetic. Repairability and upgradability should be standard at this price. The screen being 90hz is great but why is it not 120hz, at this price that's not acceptable (the 2023 model is in the same boat.. 60hz... really?). I am glad that in Canada, Dell was selling the XPS 15 9530 at a nice discount, and I am very glad I picked it up at that price.

I have an XPS 15 and I think its a great machine. The new 16 seems to have some odd choices. Also if you look at the pricing some of the same things cost more, like Win 11 Home -> Pro is $60 vs $50, if you want 64 GB RAM, you HAVE to get the RTX 4070. Pricing this vs the 15, it comes out to $960 more. Losing one SSD slot for some isn't a big deal, but I can understand the complaints IF you need two slots. I had a touchbar MacBook Pro and while it didn't bother me as much, at first glance seeing what Dell has here, not sure I like it. The keyboard seems like a step backwards as well. I would like to see one in person, but for me, the XPS 15 is where I am staying. I think I saw that you are in Vegas! Maybe see you around sometime.

I purchased a Dell XPS back in 2016, I used it for 1 hour before coming to the conclusion that it was pretty crap, from the hardware itself to the Windows OS running at the time, and this is coming from someone who has been using a MacBook Pro since 2010. I honestly think Dell was too ambitious with the pricing, with an almost identically spec'd MacBook Pro 16" basically the same price, and the M3 Max is much better in performance than Intel's Ultra 7 if I'm not mistaken. Looks like Dell has improved a lot since 2016, but I still think it's kind of a no-brainer to go with Apple right now unless you absolutely need Windows.

This is SO close to being an AMAZING laptop. Don't get me wrong, they've definitely made a pretty darn good 2024 XPS - but it could have been amazing with just a few minor things. The screen should have an option for 120-Hz. Even though it may not be needed all the time and it would play a factor in battery life, it should be an option. 1080p webcam. While this is a huge improvement over the 720p that's been on XPS models in past years (for which there's no excuse why they weren't already 1080p), it still falls a bit short. Given that this is 2024, this should have AT LEAST a 5 MP webcam (similar to several Lenovo models) or 9 MP (as some HP models have). At the price point of the XPS, there's still no excuse for the webcam to be what would have been considered great 5 years ago. Full size SD card reader. Just my thoughts. It's good. It's just not great.

Also I liked so much their carbon fiber feel of classic XPS line.... They do need to preserve it somehow. The only good thing I think is that they may have discounts on last year model you still can get the best windows laptop for some time.
@butchdeadlift75517 ай бұрын
Yeah, the escape key, lack of carbon fiber (I love the look and contrast it gives a silver laptop), downgrade to one M.2 slot, and soldered RAM just make it a no-go for me. Not to mention how the performance difference is negligible. Also, I've got 6TB of storage in my 9500 across two drives - they don't even make NVMEs over 4TB so I'd have to downgrade. I luckily picked up a 9530 i9/4060 motherboard for cheap off ebay so I'll have almost the same performance as this for less than 1/4 of the cost (incl. the 9500!). Seems like there are far better options unless you want to flex how much money you can blow on gadgets.

But keeping the same design as the 13inch for a 16inch is literally just lazy. Its heavy and heavily overpriced, the main appeal should ve its ligjtweight not heavy weight and heavy price

I’m confused whether I should the 14 with a 4050 or the 16 with a 4060 cause I have a gaming pc and mostly game there and just need this for like simio and light gaming
@hung53984 ай бұрын
idk why the 4070 is 80w while other sources said it was 60w. Does that mean it actually better than 9730 4070😅 in terms of gpu

Did the speakers rattle when you were doing the audio test? Mine seem to rattle whenever you get it to 50 volume and play any sort of audio

I still find it amazing that Dell has not updated its logo. It's holding back the overall design of the laptops.
@agiverreviga45927 ай бұрын
What's there to fix? The logo is simple and good. They have plenty of other matters to fix in their laptops instead of the logo...
@akin2420027 ай бұрын
Their audience doesn't care about the logo. They do care about function keys and adjustable RAM.

I agree. The logo hasn't aged well

Speakers are boomy. 10 watts power. XPS 16 (9640) should be my favorite laptop for 2024.

Hi Any idea if the new XPS laptops with basic setup will support external monitor with 5K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate, like the Dell U4025QW? Thanks.

I again saw your ASUS Zenbook Pro 16X OLED UX7602 review and it exported 3 min H.264 video in 1min 32 seconds. It has terrible battery life. Dell xps 16 2024 did same in 53 seconds and has much much better battery life. Wow very impressive.

As always... Thanks for the great reviews!!! How does 90hz feels compared to 120hz just for scrolling an touch navigating the Windows UI ? Noticble difference ? Are you going to review the XPS 14 version as wel ? Then it's maybe a good comparision for the refresh rate :) Did you notice any Screen door effect or moire pattern due to the touch layer ? Thanks!
@andrewmarcdavid7 ай бұрын
I think 90hz is fine especially for battery life. To me not a big difference overall. There is a a screen door effect but to me not very noticeable unless you really look super close

Excellent review! I am always trying out newer laptops from the used marketplace and I always find myself going to back the XPS. Dell just knows how to make a premium laptop! 14” would be my pick!
