The “stop being posers” bit really hit. Like everyone preaches dressing differently but at the same time they discourage you dressing too differently. Like come on , I’m so sick of everyone trying to imitate a micro-trend they see online for a week then move one.

Im tried of people cosplaying and pretending to be things they're not. Clean girl, that girl, it girl, vanilla girl, old money, mob wife, costal grandma and the jane Birkin trend. I want something fresh, I'm tried of all these trends, especially the ones based mostly on Nostalgia for the period they were in. In the historical dress up community, they have a saying called "Were the clothes and not the values."This is something many are failing to do nowdays, a good example is the cottagecore to trad wife pipeline.

I really hate, how the "trinket-trend" has been evolving recently and how probably in 1-2 months will be considered old and cringe, when many people have been personalising their stuff like that for years, especially in fandom spaces.. I was happy for it at the beginning, cause it gave me the courage to put more of the items I've had and loved for a long time, even on Work related stuff.. Since in my country standing out even with small things like that, is not really encouraged and I've only used openly more "safe" and "basic" ones.. Now with the trend I saw way more people expressing themselves IRL with trinkets and it made me happy, but online I see so many doing it only cause it's In now, it's obviously fake, but cause of that, the whole "aesthetic"- if you will, gets criticism and is treated like something brand new that's bad again..

The overabundance of consumerism in recent years has absolutely killed me, it feels like no one wants to be or do things that truly mean something to them- THEMSELVES. It's like people are becoming vessels for trends and sales existing for the sole purpose of profit or being someone's profit. A recession in creativity which i believe is amplified by things like A.I and an extreme influx in advertisement 24/7... You're so real fastest sub ever

I'm over trends too and capitalism, I live in a country were the fashion industry is supposedly "developing" but they only sell trendy items. Like the brands don't even have their own identity anymore and they all sell bubble skirts and cheetah prints. All of them, its crazy. And then their ig bio will be like "disruptive fashion brand" mmm oooook lol, or if is not that they sell like baggy streat wear type of shit and if u don't like it is because you are too americanized according to them and u don't want to support local stores. It’s crazy how many people just want have something or be something in a short amount time without allowing things to accumulate. Especially with trinkets and decorating your bag, I have so many pins and charms and other things I’ve accumulated over the years that I use to decorate my bags or even clothes I own. I don’t think people want to have to slow down and actually grow as an individual. They want things now and in an instant. They want to already be perceived as interesting without actually having to go through the work of knowing yourself and learn some harsh truth about yourself. Because of course that takes too much time and what if some parts of yourself can’t be boxed into an aesthetic that’s marketable to the masses so people can also forget about the undesirable parts of themselves they don’t want to look into.
@littlebink15 күн бұрын
the whole world needs a seminar from u i s2g how do you always manage to perfectly articulate the points that ive been trying to preach!!! when you talked about how people's identities can't be formed around their material possessions like ooh my god!! exactly!!!! everyone is obsessed with how they are seen in public as someone carrying an aesthetic or trend, but especially online like people will own clothes just to make a "grwm winter fairy core" video and then never wear it again. and even owning non clothing items has become a trend, something to buy and show on tiktok once or twice just to prove that they were part of something and then they throw it out a week later. people participating in micro-trends are just overconsuming and killing the environment! awesome!

Omg, I was definitely the ✨️weird kid✨️ in high school. I got made fun of for how I dressed like a lot. I remember one time freshman year (2005) I had a bunch of button pins all over the outside of my purse because I loved them and wanted to see them at all times. One of the popular girls in my class told me she lived my bag and wanted to know if I bought it that way or did it myself. I felt so good about myself and my "weirdness" after that. It's kind of crazy that things are being manufactured to look like that now. Like across the board...the entire DIY punk aesthetic can be bought in stores these days

They are pretty Easy to find at the moment and I am really happy about that because I need them in like 3 colors and I was able to buy one this year. Or non skinny jeans. I never really liked skinny jeans when I was younger but they were the only type of jeans which fit me and my mom could afford so I am really happy that I can other types of jeans now and I don't have to look ages for them as they are more trendy now. Do I wish everything was available all the same? Of course I do. But this is one thing I kinda like about trends which I like being able to buy and find clothing I actually enjoy more easily. I dont know if you've ever heard of RIAN PHIN but she's completely changed the way my brain function in regards to fashion. despite me wanting to attend FIT in the far future I don't know that much about fashion and didn't know what I even wanted to do if I ever went to school for it but the way she talks about fashion in relation to humanity was like my third eye opening. I now want to go for fashion technology and textile manufacturing. I don't think everyone [or even the majority] of people who participate in TikTok's fast fashion rat race care about it the same way as me but I think everyone should find someone who's molded their entire being around it and hear them speak about clothing and what it means to them and what they think it serves to people in general. I never had the fund to buy all of the excessive things I didn't really care or resonate with but post-rian I don't want any of those things I think it gave me a much needed reality check to rethink my relationship with clothing which slows down on consumption and waste.

The jane birkin rant was so cathartic, I hate that so much fashion nowadays tries to be so evocative of a particular style but because of the nature of the fast fashion industry, items people seek out that were made to address this trend are manufactured in a way that completely decouples the style of the clothing from the subcultures and material conditions that originally created it. Like why get one of your dads old pieces of workwear to cut the sleeves off, stick it to the man, pin stuff to it because you dont know how to sew and let the denim fray on its own when you can buy a cut off jean jacket with preapplied patches that is actually made with polyester and thus buy punk. This is just like a more extreme example because of the nature of punk but it applies to most fashion styles that are meant to emulate and reference without understanding and the authenticity of Jane Birkin being so ironically misappropriated is such a good example. It would almost be better to just pick clothing you like that comes from that fashion heritage without knowing it and just styling it in your own way.

The whole trinket things... I do wonder if though its poser shit nowadays, it can not also be looked at a wish fulfilling kinda way. Like people are too poor to buy makeup, travel, go out. I have had a cherry-red satchel for a few years and I have gotten so many compliments on it recently, I hope the trend lasts longer.

The biggest micro trend for 2024 in Australia was the post card print dresses and sets, I’m so over it. You go to a shopping centre in my city and every woman and their mother is wearing this print and all the fast fashion shops are stocking this print. I’m ready for it to die now, I just couldn’t get into it, but I honestly have been wearing the same clothes for the last 10 years. 😅

Watching these roasts feels really weird as someone who doesn't have TikTok 😂
