The Sims 3 autonomy is SO GOOD. Watching this video makes me miss it sooo much. I used to love making big households and then setting them lose, just watching the drama unfold. But in Sims 4 they all just autonomously ignore each other and go to play games on a computer it's so boring. They really missed out on the *magic* in the sequel 😔

I think there is no reality in which Sims 4 becomes fun to play. Sims 3 feels ALIVE due to the open world, and Sims 2 has personality in every aspect, Sims 4 on the other hand has cut corners at every step, there is no staring out the window and pondering, there is no pulling utensils out the drawers in the kitchen, some things look cool and do nothing, and just some things spawn conveniently. It feels like a Mary Sue equivalent of a game, where even if something bad happens it is ultimately very forgiving and it doesn't matter, and your characters are shielded with plot armor. Even if you want to make your own story happen in the Sims 4, which is said to be its main selling point, you will struggle due to the countless bugs the game has. I'm crossing my fingers so we get a worthy spiritual successor soon, because an official one has already been cancelled/heavily postponed.

Mostly in my opinion, it’s the fact this is an older game and was made to run on older computers, so you do have to tweak it to newer machines. Mods can help with that also too!

As a player who usually would build a house, dress the whole family and call it a day I was amazed by how many design choices can be made in Sims 3. BUT it was also my first open world experience, so i even started to actually play with sims and messing around. Sims 3 is by far the best, the open world is a major factor but there is just soooooo much more to do. I have the whole collection and with mods it is amazing. I never get bored with the Sims 3 and after 15 years I am still learning new things about it. Not many games you can say that about. I love the Sims 2 also but if I had to choose it would be 3. The sims 4 doesn't capture my attention, I played it for 4 months and was like nah, and went back to the sims 3. If you are a Sims fan and have been following this game from the beginning then you would understand why Sims 3 is better than 4.

That thing about recreating characters from books/shows… I wrote a book series where the characters originated from playing Sims 3 in middle school. I didn’t write the series until a year after college, but that game helped establish who the core characters were as I continued to have that family in my head for years to come and further develop them. I had no intentions of writing a book until high school. The character development of this game was so good and really helped me with my own imagination!

Me playing Sims 3 for 21 generations until I lost my save = 🤩 VS playing Sims 4 for one whole generation (from first birth to death) = 🥱, next! PS: in Sims 3 it was actually challenging playing with 8 (but 4 was my minimum number or else I was bored) VS in sims 4 the split and loading screen took the fun of the game for me, I literally build houses that you don't have to leave them at all. Felt like Barbie but not in the good way😭 !!First time I tried to play sims 2 this year and it's so much harder in a good way than 3 and especially 4. But I still prefer 3 or 4 (4 only CAS, 3 all but CAS).

Sims 3 improves on the sims 2 TS4 feels like it's own thing. There is nothing in that game that resembles the rest of the series. It's not even about open world, that doesn't compare when playing legacy for example. Multiple of my friends lost their families, sims glitching out, dying, or randomly getting deleted?? There was a SIMS version where you could be an actual witch or warlock and do spells. I think it was an expansion of maybe the SIMS 1? It had some serious Charmed/gothic feeling. And you could have pets expansion, so you could give them a black cat :p I don't know if you can recreate something like that in SIMS 3? Playing retro games are the best feeling sometimes :) I never went further than 2, but I must try nr 3 maybe :D

for me, The Sims 3 or 4 isn't superior, I wanted to like both, but I ended up liking neither. Sims 3 had the gameplay for sure, but it lacked graphic beauty, so most of my life, I never liked games from the 80s and 90, and after, because I never was graphically happy with games, I have been an artist since a child, so that could be the reason why I feel that way, I hated watching tv growing up because the images were so horrible to me when HD tvs came out I thought wow finally gone get better images, and then 4K and on, I didn't particularly appreciate when the internet came to the phone it was so old looking and out of date it wasn't until years later the internet looked more visual on the phone...si the sims 3 had the amazing gameplay but lacked the graphic beauty. The Sims 4 had graphic beauty but no amazing gameplay like The Sims 3, so that is why I can't like either, and The Sims 4 wouldn't be that bad if it wasn't for the glitches and corruption. If The Sims 4 had the gameplay of The Sims 3, it would be the perfect stimulation. and granted, EA did all of us wrong over time that played the Sims 4, over 1,000 dollars of content, and now it's just filled with glitches and corruption...glad you and many others are still able to enjoy The Sims 3 overlooking the graphics ugliness, the sims 3 just feels too outdated graphically for me to enjoy it

The stylization/aesthetic choices for Sims 3 are totally made up for by the gameplay. And for sure if you get the hang of CAS you can make some great looking sims. I don't think aesthetics make up for boring/shallow gameplay, so Sims 4 was a big step back and I never got attached to it the way I did the other Sims games.
