We this exact car and wanted the Rav4 prime but it was a 2 year wait and $20k more in Canada. We have had it for almost one year and we love it, running about 75% all electric mode and averaging about 2.5lt/100km's which is amazing fuel economy. we put in 11 gallons every other month.

Lots of Ford haters out there that have to tell the world on every Ford vehicle review. No facts, just hate.

The hybrid model makes much more sense than full EV. Toyota's move in this direction rather than full EV will give them a strong strategic advantage. Ben would love to see you attend and review the Auto Tech that comes out of SEMA or the CES Tech Conference sometime. Just a thought you do a great job as it stands.

I wouldn't want to buy a fully electric vehicle because I think the battery technology is just not there yet. Batteries for a fully electric car are too big and too heavy, and they are going to lose their capabilities over time, and the value of the car will drop significantly. Plus, the charging infrastructure is not there yet, as you mentioned.

22 Escape PHEV owner at 26k miles. small hiccups/recalls which bit annoying...Otherwise really happy with the vehicle. The efficiency is to the moon...you could get 41mpg+ for 1,500 miles roadtrip without wasting hours charging like Teslas. For daily commute, never use single drop of gas; Off-the line, this thing is faster than a lot of gas-only vehicle because the electric torque is instant; When driving long-stretch downhill mountain road, you don't need mechanical brake and regen will recoup all the energy. Recently test-drove the larger cx-90 phev and shocked to realize Escape has larger/equal 1st/2nd row headroom... Only feature is missing -- No AWD for PHEV.

Did you consider the RAV4 Prime or Hyundai/Kia PHEV SUVs? I'm having a hard time choosing. The Escape looks smaller than the RAV4, but I think the interior specs are quite similar.
@minghanxu7199
@minghanxu7199 5 ай бұрын
@@MarcusStenzel I recommend visiting dealers and check out the interior space. If you looking at specs, escape having smaller trunk but better in headroom/legroom (compared to rav4). I personally not fan of Hyundai/Kia because they use automatic transmission and turbocharged engine thus less efficient than Toyota/Ford. Toyota probably lands you better build-quality, AWD, and resell value. Back then it would cost me extra 10-20k to get the Prime/Kia/Hyundai because of dealer mark-up etc. So the choice was pretty clear to me

@@austinta4017 in California mild winter, the heater won’t turn on the gas engine (I am not sure about more severe winter condition). If you stay EV Now + Normal/Eco drive mode, you stay on EV as long as you have charge in battery. Engine break will start engine if you have hill-assist and battery is mostly full.

7:55 what is your evidence? The grid over all, is getting more robust and distributed with more renewables. Battery capacity vs. cost is the true EV limiter. If people could get 250 miles of range in a cross over or small pickup for $25,000, or even $35,000 with a 2% APR loan for 72 months, many more people would buy them. The charging infrastructure would quickly adapt. Cost of batteries and cost of borrowing money are the only things in the way of EVs taking over.

I don’t know why, but everybody who comments on MPGE gets it wrong. What it means is that if the PHEV gets 102 MPGE, the car can travel 102 miles in electric mode on the energy content of one gallon of gasoline expressed in kilowatt hours.

Ford, for whatever reason has never had a robust supply chain of hybrid component parts to build lots of hybrids. About 20% of total production, and Ford has been building hybrids for over 15 years. But Ford is building hybrids across most model lines now. Up to 10,000/month.

Ford hasnt ventured from the traditional car look all that much, specifically the interior. Wish they would be a bit more innovative interior wise as it currently looks like “lets see where we can fit it”. But otherwise my next car would be this vehicle likely. Ford builds solid cars. Oh one more wishlist is that i wish they could add a sport mode drive option that could engage more power from the battery. So you can either enjoy great fuel costs savings and range OR fuel cost savings and power.

The advertised hybrid 101 mpg sounds like snake oil to me. Can a real user confirm that it goes anywhere near that number?
@usapines

It's 101 MPGe -miles per gallon equivalent. It's convoluted and can be a headache trying to figure out. My experience: My daily commute-I don't use gas at all. In late summer/early fall when temps were in the 70s, I was getting 35-38 miles on charge doing city driving. In dead winter when it's 10-20 degrees, I'm getting 20 miles doing city driving. When the battery is depleted you will go into hybrid mode. Highway driving with hybrid--about mid 30's mpg. City driving on hybrid 40-44 mpg.

After 8 thousand kilometers in winter I average 4.4L per 100 km or 53 mpg. I charge often and have had many long trips that run on hybrid only. Really pleased with it so far. Was looking at Toyota but used was 20k more and can't find them new. Good snow tires make AWD unnecessary so far.

Plug in hybrid means you have to buy gas and buy electricity. How is that efficient?
@EastonHB27

And if you have a short commute, it can act functionally as an EV, never even needing the gas for that portion of your day.

The amount of electricity you’re using is dollars per month. Most people don’t commute more than 10-20 miles each way to work which means you’d almost never need to buy gas. But if you go on a longer drive you still have the convenience of gas without spending time stopping a charging. Public fast chargers are expensive, almost as much to fill up with gas.

The plug in hybrid just doesn't make sense to me. I have to fill up with gas and then go find a charging station for the battery? How is this time efficient. Why doesn't Ford just reverse engineer a Toyota and see how their car batteries are self charging off the engine and brakes.
@jaycoppola3291

You are misunderstanding how these cars work, you can fill it with gas and never charge it and it will get you 40 mpg. If you do charge it you can drive up to 37 miles without ever having the engine start, so no gas usage at all. Once you get beyond the 37 miles the engine will start and power the car and will work like a typical hybrid car and get you 40 mpg. To me, it a good compromise between full electric and a standard hybrid car. Plus the government ( USA) gives you a $3750 tax credit. So the price between a regular hybrid and a plug-in is the same, at similar trim levels.
