Looks like the trucking industry has about as much hope as this country surviving

One metric you're not mentioning that has a big effect on rates is the carrier rejection rate. For a good little while now, it's been around 2.5%-3%. That puts a lot of downward pressure on rates. As usual, we're not doing what we need to do to help ourselves.
@AFTDispatch8 ай бұрын
You're absolutely right, and as soon as tender rejection pops up ever so slightly, truckers bite and take the slightly higher rate. Can't blame them, many have very high operating costs.

I don’t see any improvement on pay rates, California to east trip used to be 5500 and now rate is 3000 same as on the way back east to California Thee only ones making money are dispatchers and factoring companies

not even dispatchers! Only diesel stations & efen insurance companies( Overpriced!)

If your a owner op but your ego to the side and go company and run their equipment like no tomorrow 600-700 miles a day if you can't run that find another occupation sleep at your deliveries and pickups and prioritize pre-trips stop being lazy it only takes 15-20 minutes to make sure your equipment is in road ready conditions.

Sounds great, but back to reality. There are simply too many trucks compared to loads. Shippers only want to work directly with carriers that have 10+ trucks.
@stevenmiller67258 ай бұрын
@@Joe-qv6jhNot that uncommon, but you have to actually understand your market and stick to a lane to run direct for the most part. Shippers want coverage of what they need don't care what you need. I run mostly direct out of my area which pays really poorly for van/reefer (from brokers) but pays much better direct (seems like most brokers taking around 30 percent). I run back almost 100 percent brokered freight but since nobody wants to come here (pays shit getting out) it pays fairly well. Only running 4 trucks. I also have multiple extra trailers and a drop yard so I can provide things a broker cannot. Often they want a trailer immediately but load can't go out for a few days. No problem for me. Brokers hate that stuff.

Im so confused, i see multiple ads on indeed that say something like "Hiring Team Owner Operators" and the yearly salary shows $400k-$500k WTF???? Another company pays $1.55/mile for owner Operators with discounts on fuel, health benefits etc. P.S. I am not a trucker but when i see those kind of ads i think what are these truckers complaining about?

Mr. V, if the government unemployment rate is strong, jobs report at 3.0 %, and we have mass tech layoffs and other layoffs. With the shipping plunging, that must mean that Uncle Sammy is blowing the sun shine up our bootys..and we enjoy paying $18.00 for a BigMac!love your reports!

I am leased to a company here in MI and last year I averaged $2.06 per mile. I have a 1984 International 9670 COE and I plan to get my own Authority on it. So watching carefully. The folks that make it did their due diligent"s and know the least they need to have to make it. Those that just jumped in when rates were great, never did the math or don't keep good books, are the ones that jump ship.

@@Joe-qv6jh Thank You sir, for the kind advice and your service to this once great Country! It’s a BC III 400 STC Cummins with an Eaton 13 sp trans. I have been rebuilding the Sgt Major since 2017. He is about ready. If I can’t get the current company to allow me to bring him aboard than I will have no choice but to find something else. I own another truck and have plans to buy two more, that can be leased to the company I am with. So when that happens I won’t need to work too much, if at all. Just want to take the next step and get my own authority and run the roads once in a while. I have no intention of going to any ports. With modern tech, I can make that cab cool or warm better than when you ran that awesome KW.

The 2005 Freightliner Century with the series 60 Detroit and Super 10 is making 10K a month, in my pocket per month right now, and again, that is leased to a company. They just won't take any truck older than 2004. But minds can change. @@Joe-qv6jh

How about carriers only operate at a certain rate and why not. Everyone is setting their prices. Where do we start? Rates/ Fuel/ Brokers/ Load Borads/ Truck stops parking/ Rates for maintenance/ And Repairs/ I can go on and on but the carriers are doing business for less. Then sence everyone is rising prices then we the carriers should do the same thing. With that America will be at a standstill. What do you think?
@BKB24258 ай бұрын
Not possible. Operating costs are different for everyone. Example: I run a small fleet under a medium sized carrier. 90% to truck and my insurance cost is nothing compared to small carriers using progressive or other high rate insurance companies. My mpg is 8. Consider just those 2 examples for operating costs.
