I think ck3 is suffering too much from focusing on success as the only form of meaningful gameplay. So many mechanics being introduced are either fail, succeed, or succeed more. Failure is basically avoided as a gameplay loop, you can't negotiate to make a success out of failure, you basically *need* to succeed to avoid gameplay being taken away from you.
@realdaggerman1056 күн бұрын
To be fair, adventurers are a mechanic which definitely allow players to accept defeat. If you lose your land (which doesn’t really happen, but still) you can make a comeback. That’s failure as a mechanic for storytelling.

@@realdaggerman105 I think that ability to be flexible and allow characters to do more is part of why RtP hit so well. It's probably why adventuring mechanics are talked about more often then the namesake mechanics for Byzantium (in my opinion)

I'm considering disabling plagues, you can safely start ignoring normal plagues a few rulers into any playthrough, and bubonic plague outbreaks just pause your game for a few years, leaving no meaningful consequences behind, all they amount to is more pointless button clicking.

real, plagues are the bane of my existence they ruined playing tall. the 2 main things about plagues i hate is, consumption pops up as a plague at least every hour and not only that it absolutely destroys development.

When I play a Celtic character I have to name all the cities to Celtic, When I am doing a Greek Empire of India, Persia and Africa I make all the titles Greek, when I play as the Sorbs I customise German titles to be Slavic, I love me some flavor

I'm kinda like a role playing power gamer, who wants to make decisions that would kinda make sense from a real life historical point of view. As most if not all rulers if given the opportunity would've probably gone for large ambitious campaigns of conquest or reformation. Something to make their mark in history. I also love to hybridise with strong cultures, something I justify as my very learned character has learned about this culture and feels it could be very strong to hybridise with it.

For me Landless really needs some flavour and nerfing. As a languages guy surely you must also find it quite strange that your Irish adventurer who's found himself in Tibet and speaks not a lick of anything beyond his native Gaelic is somehow being entrusted by a King to transport his ward across the realm... I just wish language and culture had more impact on interactions between characters. Me not speaking Arabic doesn't make dislike people from Oman -5pts, it means I literally could not understand someone if I encountered them.

I just wanted to say that I loved your CK3 story playthroughs this year, especially after Roads to Power came out. I can’t wait to see what you do next. Also, a minor suggestion. Maybe it could be interesting to do more “sequels” to these videos, especially if you make use of the Choose A New Destiny feature. Like after the Bactrian game if you started out as an Adventurer in the same save and made your way to a different realm to create a new kingdom and culture/religion.

I have close to 2000 hrs in CK3, honestly it’s doodoo. They have focused so much energy into straight up novel mechanics that get stale after a while and have absolutely no flavor. They need to focus on the whole point of the game, crusades. Revamp the Catholics, add the college of cardinals, and revamp the Islamic side as well.
@MeesyIce5 күн бұрын
The crusades aren’t the point of the game, I agree the mechanic is broken atm but crusader kings as a franchise hasn’t been about the crusades for a long time.

5:40 that's me lol. I love roleplaying and spending a long time writing cultures/religions/lore etc. But I think the best thing with roleplaying is increasing the difficulty when so many things are easy to exploit in this game. For exemple, the whole eugenics things is funny but makes 0 sense roleplay wise and makes the game too easy. Same for dynastic/religion/culture traits and even personallity traits, if you minmaxx it the IA has ZERO chance to beat you. I think there should be more penalties for not playing RP : if you're an emperor and marry a peasant everybody should hate you for it. There should be more events relating to your character that cause stress if you refuse to do it, like lustful characters should automatically seduce courters and you should have to deal with the aftereffects.

Unfortunately I liked an aspect that they are doing a lot less. I liked the asynchronous gameplay mechanics. I liked playing as a tribe and then building up to be a merchant republic empire. I liked despoiling entire civilizations as horse lords. Feudalism was about stability and building up over time. Paradox are generally moving away from specific mechanics for specific countries although I bounced off CK3 before they added a lot of extra flavour and mechanics. Maybe it would be good enough now but Im waiting for a good Khan, Merchant or Theocracy gameplay to exist.

In fact I believe it would be a huge waste of time for the devs. I really really liked the off map empire system they added in Jade Dragon. Redo that, but maybe with some different stuff so it doesn’t feel like a carbon copy of a CK2 dlc, and leave china as an off map maga power.

Roads to Power was like 2 or 3 DLC’s in one, though. The sheer Byzantine flavour and content made it basically a flavour pack, the new government type and adventurers are good, even if it’s easy to snowball out of control. But CK3 has always been very role-play focused.

Well I've no interest in landless forced myself to get the achievements and the start it's boring then you become extremely overpowered very soon. Admin it's made for new players, it's impossible not become emperor because AI can't generate influence. After you become emperor the game it's over, you'll never lose the throne and vassals can't form independence or dissolution factions so it's easy mode. Even if you're bad and lose the throne you'll be back very fast. The new schemes are placebo, they barely do anything and there's no reason to run them. Everything it's easy and overpowered so it's a terrible grand strategy dlc because requires no strategy. They even went and basically removed the game over, you need to be really bad or terribly unluck to get a game over now.
