2024 Hobie Fishing Series Australia Round 6 Bream Comp Georges River 25-26th May

After a little bit of encouragement from my brother and Andrew Death, I decided to enter my first Hobie Kayak Bream Competition on the Georges River.
It has been a few days since the event was completed and I must say that I really enjoyed the whole experience. When I arrived at the event I was blown away by the awesome Hobie rigs that were scattered around the place and was super keen to see what this was all about.
Great to see a few other Hobie Lynx entered in the event and very happy how it handled over the weekend. The weather gods did favour us and I was happy there was no wind or chop.
I have fished the Georges a few times as it is in my local area but new there were another 75 anglers that were all chewing at the bit to land a few nice Bream. My main goal was to return with two bags of 3 fish each day and i did this but had to work pretty hard. It was so cool at the weigh in to see such quality fish caught the biggest being a whopping 1.6kg fish. When you see the amount of great fish caught and released it gives you an idea that you also have a chance in landing quality fish if you fish the right area with the right lure and know how.
On day one at the start line it was such a buzz as the 75 odd Hobie kayakers charged down the river to their favourite spots. Very cool, I had a smile on my face and the adrenalin pumping in my veins. With a fishing time of 7 hours on each day there was lots of time to work out a game plan and target different areas.
Day one I had 3 fish for 1.86 g
Day two I had 3 fish for 1.7kg
Total bag of 3.56kg and ended up in 22nd spot which I was happy with.
Saturday I raced down to Captain Cook Bridge and landed all my fish there upgrading a few times.
On the Sunday I Ianded my first Bream at 7.30am and it was a nice 1.14kg Kega. I needed to back it up with two more quality fish but could only manage two squeakers that were just legal size. I did fish a few new areas which I will return to and see if I can fine tune when the best bite is.
The Hobie comp was very well organised and ran like a well oiled machine. It was also great meeting a whole bunch of other fishos that love their Hobie kayak fishing as much as I do.
I learnt a lot from the whole experience and would love to do it all again soon.

Great work to all the fishos that took part over the two days, a big eye opener for me and a huge learning experience. Must say I was in bed by 9pm on Sunday, slept like a baby.

Thanks mate. Yes put a few km in on the weekend. It was a great experience for me. Learnt loads and keen to jump in another one soon. Was blown away by the amount of monster bream caught. That 1.6kg fish was amazing. Great group of people and was great to be a part of it.
