Blame to charger not the car. Charging increases battery temp. So charging speed should increased during charging.

Well based on Bjorn in Norway and Chris in Germany both of whom got 103kW peak rate but they tested it correctly as usually you arrive at a DC fast charger after having driven for 2-3hrs of driving to arrive with 10% therefore the battery will be warmed up so I think it was how you tested that caused you to wait 59min. Plus you also forgot your test was in cold weather next try it in summer when it is 25c or more. The Kona is fine for long distance. Also what was your tire size, 17" or 19" as that makes a difference in your efficiency. The 17" gets 505km on WLTP and the 19" 444km.

I too am aware of Bjorn's test. I replicated his test with my 2024 Kona EV and did not get his results. I think the difference is perhaps due to NA version? Don't know for sure but my charge graph is very similar to the one in this video.
@TBreker7 ай бұрын
Also, Bjorn's test was done at 2 degrees outside air temp.
@TassieEV7 ай бұрын
@@TBreker But Chris from Battery Life did the same test and in warmer conditions in southern Germany and he also attained peak charge rate of 103kW. It could be it is the NA version though. I've got one on order but mine will be AU spec so it could either get 103kW peak or be peak as per this video test....will test once I have it.

I agree. Something is wrong with the NA 2024 Kona EVs. I don't know if it's a software issue or what. I have a case file with Hyundai Canada. Heading to our Motor Vehicle Arbitration Program soon, me thinks. #hyundaicanada

Ithought the same! You should try to change the charging station. Seems I t was limited to 60kW what is common for most EA chargers.
@steverogers81638 ай бұрын
Possible that Polestar (did he charge?) threw you off too. Pretty standard for charging stations to not be able to supply full power to all stations at the same time. Especially those 250w+ chargers. That all said its the real world and you're not going to be driving up to a fully working, empty at 70F every time. So your numbers are probably right in the ballpark of what you could expect on the average. Perfectly fine if you charge at home or work. Wouldn't want to drive cross country in it, but I wouldn't want to do that any electric vehicle either even a Tesla.

I don't believe so given I was already peaked and going downhill before they plugged in. We were also two stalls apart which might make a difference too.

Thank you for doing this test at that Casey’s. It’s the one I stop at all the time halfway on our trip to Iowa and have wondered how long a recharge would be if I went electric. An Hour and $26? That’s an eye opener. We would definitely keep the Family Truckster for the trip if we went EV.
@CarsMadeSimpleАй бұрын
This is not representative of most EV's anymore. The Kona EV is one of the slowest DC charging electric vehicles on the market. I will be doing another test with one of the faster charging vehicles likely tomorrow. This stop could be as little as 20 minutes with the right vehicle.

@@CarsMadeSimple True, but I couldn't afford one of those. Looking at Bolts and such, not E-GMP based models.
@CarsMadeSimple24 күн бұрын
@@ChrisDalenberg If road tripping or charging speed is a high priority, I would recommend buying a used EV which good charging or finding incentives that stack to bring the purchase price down. You can find EGMP vehicles for well over $10k off MSRP brand new. Depending on the state, they can be over $15k in total discount.

I wish I could just right away know how long the charging took or explain these numbers. It's hard to transition into these evs without understanding the numbers to me it's like just listening to white noise

The markup on that power is nuts. What like 50 cents a kilowatt hour?
@CarsMadeSimple8 ай бұрын
Yeah ever since EA did their "dynamic pricing" (Which doesn't seem to be all that dynamic) it went up substantially. I don't know what commercial power rates are in this area but residential is about $ .14 per kWh.

So disappointing that charging speed, even with low temps... about the same speed as earlier Kona Electric years.. and that EA cost is so expensive, cheaper to pay for gas... Yikes.
@CarsMadeSimple8 ай бұрын
This was very expensive! It's already high enough with Pass+ but without it is very high.
@Ovationhabs7 ай бұрын
Not nearly as expensive as gasoline is where I live, though. (About 7.00$/gallon after conversion from litres). So I would still be happy. Also, public charging here in Quebec is far less expensive than in the US, it seems.

I think it's a great car for the money. Slow DC charging is my biggest gripe but that's only relevant when not charging at home which I would highly encourage.

So happy that I won't be using those Chargers -- hopefully, by the end of 2024, should I lease the Kona EV over the ICE, I will have NACS charging capability. Also, if I do lease an EV, I will have a Level 2 charger in my garage. At $26+ for a fast charging, it's better to charge at home (I won't do long road trips). Again, NACS charging is the norm here in the NJ/PA area (lots of Wawa stores with gas and Tesla superchargers). Since charge port on driver's front, easy to pull into a Tesla supercharger and plug in the charger. I only wish Hyundai made the EV in red like the ICE version.
