The entire industry is massively predatory and thrives on fostering very unhealthy parasocial relationship to spend millions and millions of dollars. It targets people who genuinely need therapy and often don't have access to it (either due to where they live, their situation or their country) Watching people sleep that we don't know is creepy. And the shows are so good at lulling you in and getting a person wrapped up in feeling like you know these people in the slightest that you don't even think about what an incredible intrusion it is to watch people exhausted, eat food and just short of use the bathroom on camera. It is meant to create a deep totally fake connection that people who are on edge, don't have stable relationships, have abusive house holds, have undiagnosed mental health conditions FLOCK to. Because it feels like a real relationship where someone cares for them, loves them and also is attractive. It's too much and it's designed that way. I don't stan any group because of it. I listen and appreciate the music and the videos, but I've never bought anything related and very rarely watch the shows they're all on. They're artists. Not people I know, not people I really want to pretend that I know. In short; Don't blame the fans. Blame the Kpop machine. It's unfair to everyone but the people who make money directly off of it. It's not even fair to the stars themselves who are often in danger, trained to be exceedingly careful about what they say or do and have to be filtered all the time and not real people, but a pretty package to be bought and sold and also usually under horrific contracts and have been basically in child labor desperately trying to make it in a cut throat industry. I love a lot of Kpop groups and music and the aesthetic, but the industry is absolutely abysmal, even for the points that have made it better over the years, it's still really freaking bad.

Corporations. K-pop idols are put there to make money, mainly from merch. It’s why their shows are so flashy, to attract attention. But the groups are cutthroat practicing day-in n day-out, their routines for concert. If the group tries to speak up, gone. Corps basically have full control over their whole life. One went out with a guy? Ruins the entire fantasy for the fans. It’s dystopian af. They make a fantasy to sell, and it can’t be broken or the group will likely be disbanded. Look up the history behind some of the older groups if you want a glimpse. Mainly 4-minute, 2NE1 and Big Bang are the ones I know had some stuff go to surface. I know nothing of J-pop so I can’t comment on that. Only that it seems eerily similar, I wouldn’t be surprised if the system was the same.

I do agree with your criticism of the hawk tuah girl however I struggle to understand your position on capitalism. the biggest reason I can’t get behind that idea is simply because most of the alternatives have already been lived through multiple times and it’s shown to have disastrous qualities. That is one anecdotal experience not the usual but there is plenty of examples of immigrants coming from a destitute country and making it big by working hard and "pulling up their bootstraps". Worst part about brain rot is that we haven’t fixed the problem (in fact, it’s doing even better), and 2025 marks a new generation, generation beta.
