Adding the cup holders, the leather seats/center armrest will hit the cup holders and not go completely down. That's why. :) Non leather seats, the center section is different, no headrest.

I tested it. I couldn’t get a photo that shows it, but when you drop the seats the headrest doesn’t make contact. If you put something heavy there it’ll make contact. I think the bigger issue would be if you have drinks in there and drop the seats without realizing it, you can potentially make a mess
