I was in Joliet Illinois, during this storm. It was one of the most powerful storm I ever experienced. And I am 58. It really scared me. Because I am recovering from a broken hip, and couldn't get into my basement. So I hid in my bathtub with my cats. The sirens are terrifying. And I hate their sound. But are necessary. I was lucky no damage at my house, and power came back on at 3am. Storms like this makes me want to dig a hole and build a house underground.

Houston got hit with a derecho end of May this year. I love bad weather, but that storm came out of nowhere and it was scary AF. This video does no justice to just how dark those clouds really are. Everything about it was off. The way the rain came down, the way the wind blew, the way the lightning struck, it was all very off.

I was in Ottawa outside at work during the 2020 derecho. Absolutely mad stuff and honestly one of the most thrilling moments of my life.

When I first started watching your video I thought "that music sure does sound familiar!' We've had two tornado warnings where I live in Virginia (extremely rare) and I only knew to grab my animals and get to the basement. You're much braver than I am!

I captured the best footage yet to date for me in Belvidere Illinois that day. I decided not to hop onto 90 because I don't fully trust myself with night chasing. Still learning but what we saw was incredible

Now and then, the music reminds me of Jimmy Page stropping his guitars, with his cello bow.

I’d been looking for video coverage starting the day after this storm, but found few videos other than local news reports on the total tornado & wind damage reported by residents & storm spotters. Four members of my immediate family (including myself), who all live in the Chicago area, had tornadoes in their towns, including the EF-2 in my brother’s town of Channahon, IL. I live in a manufactured home & barely made it to a tornado shelter before a tornado knocked out the electricity, which was quite an unnerving experience when sitting in a pitch black church’s semi-basement, listening to tornadic winds as it went though my town. I wish you would re-release your footage without the sound effects & music, because they gave a comedic tinge to a very dangerous event in many people’s lives throughout several states. Just my own opinion.

For someone who knows nothing about tornadoes, what does the green in the sky have to do with a tornado, and what is a derecho? I am from Australia. We dont get tornadoes here

Oftentimes (not always), during or before a tornado, and if its the right time of day, the sky becomes green due to how low the clouds are. Derecho means "straight" in Spanish and this word refers to the direction of extreme winds that can match a smaller tornado (straight line winds exceeding 120mph (193kmh) ) and they last for an entire day usually
