Thank you! I'm glad you're still watching my channel. I have a question for you about Gunbuster. It's been many years ago when I still lived in America, but I picked up the Gunbuster movie MD for my PSP for an extremely low price on a trip to Japan and watched it on the flight back to the USA. I noticed that the whole training montage was completely removed. Didn't that have music from the Rocky movie with Stallone? Was this removed just for the movie version, or is it still intact in the regular OVAs? I can imagine if copyright law was infringed, they could have just replaced the music with something else similar in spirit. Let me know. Thanks.

@@stevethefishdotnet No, it wasn't music from Rocky that was used during the training montage. Tanaka Kohei, the composer of the music for Gunbuster, used a piece which sounded similar to the theme from the film Chariots of Fire. When Bandai eventually decided to release Gunbuster in the US under their Honnêamise label (now defunct), they removed the music fearing copyright infringement. Removing the music also had the negative effect of also doing away with most of the background sound effects. It was quite jarring. Mind you, Bandai did this removal only for the US market and nowhere else. They later released an unedited Blu-ray "special edition", which was nothing more than the Japanese Blu-ray edition without subtitles.

I'll have to double check on that. I'm pretty sure I bought my Gunbuster MD in Japan and it is in Japanese-only. Looks like I mis-remembered which athletic-themed '80s movie the music came from. I first saw Gunbuster around 1991 via the US Renditions dub and hadn't seen it since then. What do you think of the Gunbuster plamo recently made by Kaiyodo? It comes with figures of the two ladies.

@@stevethefishdotnet I saw those! A friend of mine bought that kit while on a recent visit to Japan. I'll probably get one eventually. The last Gunbuster kit I worked on was the Aoshima 1:1000 scale Gunbuster. Plus, I've got a box full of unbuilt old General Products resin kits that Gainax put out in their early days. Edit: If you ever get the itch to build a resin figure, I've got a nice Noriko figure released by Kaiyodo I'd be willing to donate to your Odyssey channel. Let me know.

Nice! When it comes to Gainax, my favorite by far is Nadia. I have so many Nadia kits, but I love Sadamoto's character designs so I do have some Eva figure kits. I finished a resin kit of Asuka in her pretty yellow dress just before summer began. I have a General Products kit of Nadia in her white island dress. I haven't done any videos of it because it's a pretty peek-a-boo dress, much moreso than the other white island dress kit I did for my channel a few years back. Here is a current auction for one: page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/v1128109139 I'll eventually have photos of the completed version to put on my Tumblr feed. I have seen both the Kaiyodo and Aoshima Gunbuster kits. IIRC, the Kaiyodo kit is static, but it comes with the figures while the Aoshima kit is articulated. So, a Noriko figure? Yeah, that would be cool! Thanks.

Ah, yes. That's a green R2 figure/toy from Episode 1. Unfortunately, my R2 friend is turning yellow from the sunlight coming from the window behind it. Sad Greg is sad.

This music sound familiar? I was going to get the Ornithopter from HLJ when it was announce but I was surprised how small they where. Glad to see they made a 1/72 version of it I have the polisher pro a long time ago and I still have it but I don't have the pads any more. I should order some. Ok I want that light base, this looks kool for photo shoors. Doyusha has some great stuff I would laugh silly if some modeling company made the monolith as a kit! Its bound to happen! Can't get enough of Macross kits at any scale!

The music in the beginning? That's from Streets of Rage 2 on the Genesis/Megadrive. The Onrithopter kits are just like Bandai's Mecha Collection series. The box sizes are nearly identical.

"001 a Space Odysee is a great movie. I recently watched the follow up movie 2010 the Day we made contact which I thought would be a poor relation. however the move is actually pretty dam good.

As a kid, I thought the sequel was better because it made more sense and it explained the weirdness of the first movie. Stylistically, Kubrick's movie is far superior. I tried reading 2001 by Arthur C. Clarke when I was in the 5th grade, but got bored reading through the stupid monkey chapters and gave up. I made the mistake of mentioning this to my mom and she insisted on me reading books targeting my age group, which were insultingly childish compared to what I was used to reading. The SF genre did not have the respect in the '80s that it does now. There is actually a third book in the series. Something about diamonds being mined on Io or something that the Monolith created. I intend to read all three books... someday.

Misa, definitely. In the movie though, it is a tough call. In the show, Minmay is an immature and flighty teenager (who reminds me of a beautiful girl I knew in high school), but in the movie she is a bit older, more mature, decisive, and caring. I really feel for her when her heart is broken. I'm done with the Armored Valk, but I have to attach the hands and do a photoset for the finished build. On my Odysee channel, I have a build for the old Imai 1:100 Armored Valk, and I've modified it considerably with custom joints, new hands, and decals. I'm almost done with that one too.

Here is the first vid of the old legacy Imai Armored Valk build. It is very convenient that the Hasegawa kit comes with several smaller stickers which just so happen to be perfectly-sized for the smaller Imai kit. Was that festival Oni Festival and was that in Gunma ?

It was Numata Matsuri in Gunma Prefecture. The big head is Tengu, not an Oni.
