Under the Project Monitor is an icon. It looks like a box with a slash through it. Click on this icon to enable Project Monitor editing. Now you'll get your red box so you can drag it to resize and pan. If the box goes off screen, use the Project Monitor menu on the right hand size and click the "-" symbol.

Excellent tutorial! I'm on my second project on kdenlive and its proving to be great software. I've used openshot and shotcut and like this so much better.
