2024 KLX300sm Ride and Review - ITS FUN!

Just about 1200 miles on my brand new KLX300sm and I ride and review it. PSA this bike is just fun!

More experienced rider here. Lower powered lightweight motorcycles are amazing fun. Very rewarding because they teach you to hold momentum and actually ride well. Not to mention you can ride them for hours without getting tired. And thats normal for motorcycles, they use dog boxes instead of synchromesh transmissions. Same reason you can clutchless shift on bikes. Downshift while everything is turning before you stop. If you do stop you'll have to use the clutch or rock back and forth to engage lower gears. Pair valve delete reduces back fires...i just plugged mine off.. The hwk brand riding gear are decent quality for the price. I have jacket and the pants. For road abrasion protection. Jacket padding decent not so much in pants so took out. Pants do run large in sizes But does have velcro straps on both sides to adjust. No complaints on jacket. Bike will give tiny power again around 2 to 2500 miles.cant recall which. I've long past that. Dna filter. Kdx200 snorkel 02delete. I dont have a fuel controller..ecm seems to adjust to changes.well... Today i ordered a seat concept. Comfort. But will be weeks before i get it. Put off because of price.349.00 shipped But i plan on keeping her a long time. Smiles for miles Be safe Be blessed bro

I second that the bike opens up a bit after being broken in. Great little bikes. I have the bdsb ecu flash and it woke ip the bike a lot. Really enjoying it.

Fun fact, the 2024 on the website is on Broadway Bridge in Portland Oregon and the one your riding is my favorite color. They did this because of me, I put 9k miles on my bike the 1st year. Would be at 30k miles now if they didnt take a year to rebuild the engine because I followed the owners manual instead of changing the oil every 500 miles with Amsoil and K&N Filter like I do now. Either way, im at 15k miles now...5k post engine rebuild under warranty. No one has more miles on this bike than me, no one advertised it more than I did in 2021/2022. The Phantom Blue is dope AF and I'm honored. Thanks Team Grean! 🤙

@SupahMotoDave I believe the Owners Manual says every 1200 Miles, please definitely don't do that. If you don't ride hard, 700 Miles MAX would be Safe. I change every 300 right now because it's time to change my clutch at 15,000 miles (Tires too but already did that, down to the wire..literally). Clutch Fibers wearing into Oil, making it dirty faster. Normally 500 would be fine, but as the Dealership said Post Rebuild, when you look through the Window and see Dark and or Cloudy Oil.

I love this bike. I don't own it YET, as I've been torn between it, the crf300 rally, the 390 adventure and a Talaria ebike. Trying to be honest with myself about what I value most in a fun toy. Keep coming back to this though. I like the blue colorway for 24.

Heard great things about the crf300 and 390 adventure. As much I like and think e-bike are cool I do not think until they offer better range and faster charging they are a good choice in my opinion. Definitely keep the supermoto. I got my zx6r as my track bike and plan on picking up the klx300sm. Perfect combo. Zx6r for highway rippin and Klx for being a hooligan in town

I researched for a few months between klx300 / crf 300l / drz 400. I finally decided to buy the drz 400sm. But these klx300 have nothing but good reviews, either way you can't go wrong with either of these 3 bikes in my opinion

Most bikes don't shift well when your stopped. Rocking the bike or slipping the clutch helps also

If you're riding on the street, change the front sprocket +1 tooth. It'll make first gear more usable, and you'll be able to do 90 and cruise highway speeds a little easier!

Great review really enjoyed it. It is such a shame we don,t have these over here in the UK our market is crying out for a good reliable SM when we did have the old KLX 250,s over here they were quite expensive which limited their appeal. I own a much loved 07 DRZ400SM (we stopped getting those on 08} the KLX300 would be the perfect replacement a UK magazine recently showed a picture of one identicle to yours suggesting Kawasaki should import them love the colour btw. Looking forward to following your progress Ride safe Martin.

Great video! I added a gear indicator on mine and it works great. As far as the 1st gear issue I find walking the bike forward a little while shifting down gets it into gear for me

Own 22 klx300sm 13k miles No problems at all. Use trip b for oil intervals. My biggest gripe is the 2galon gas tank aftermarket are expensive. I'm still using factory mirrors But kinda liking that one you have. And the plugs. Please share info. Description. Love your videos I'd even watch the boring one you mentioned lol. Do like your camera and mic Set up.. It's like I'm riding with you. I ride on very similar roads here in Mississippi. Two wheel up Be safe and have fun

This bike dates back To early 2009 same cluster Was called kawasaki 250sf. Other countries 250 dx. Love the new plastics on the 24..so this bike is the same bike.but bored out to 300 and added fuel injection But should be built to last

Too many people are wanting 450cc level performance from this bike and Its not realistic. Its an entry level supermoto. In all likelihood, Kawi, is testing demand for supermotos. I can see them doing a 450, IF IF they can get people interested in Supermotos. That has to start with an entry level bike. That is what this bike is. If they wanted to compete with Suzuki's SM they would have. This bike is perfect for newcomers with no experience in SUMOs. That is what KZbinrs seem oblivious too. (That is also part Kawi's fault). This and the 230 version are the only entry level SUMO's on the market. The Suzuki has too much power to be considered an entry level bike and people that are recommending the Suzuki to new riders will get people hurt, just like people recommending 600cc bikes to new riders.

I agree! It’s an amazing beginner bike and it is a fun bike for most riders regardless of experience. However as the cliche goes, when a new rider buys an entry level bike to learn on they out grow it quick. Regardless as much as I would like a little more power I still love this bike and I am having a blast. Even if I end up getting another bike I will keep this one for sure! Thanks for watching!

I can’t tell how your mirror is mounted but I suggest try flipping in under the bars. I had a klx250 and now have a Drz400sm. I would still consider getting a klx300.

Real issue with these is bang for your buck. Way too much $ for what u get, IMO. A good amount of leftovers on steep discount tho and the proposition becomes much more inviting.

I got a 2024 ZX6R, and I just picked up a 2024 KLX300SM to commute and for kart tracks. I haven't had the chance to do the latter yet, but it's great! Max speed so far is 90mph.

What did you pay out the door for your klx300sm with all the taxes and fees added on? Im in Pennsylvania and out the door is high 7K range, one dealership was over 8K

I paid just a little over 7k with taxes and fees. Maybe look for any left over 2023s? I know the styling is a bit different but I have seen new 2023s going for 4.9k. I also heard the 230SMs are going for like 3-3.5k. Good luck on your hunt and thanks for watching!

Damn, accidentally deleted my post.... that sucked but the great looking street bikes are only about SPEED. Eventually whether it's after a few speeding tickets or an accident, going fast isn't all that great. Don't get me wrong, fast is a Rush no doubt but I happen to know you can have great fun on what you have & you already got the bike. Being able to roll off the road on this one gives you far more fun factor & opens up every path/trail or field as a new experience. Each one of them will offer variations on Fun whereas going fast gets old & if ya screw up it'll CO$T You everything. Add a few little things to protect this bike like bark busters & skid plate if you don't have one. After that, unless you are trying to launch a YT Channel, buying more/bigger really becomes a waste. Watching all these Videos can make ya think it's doing as channel's do but they only do all that for views. Do a few basics to your bike & go enjoy it. Save your money for real stuff unless you're launching a YT Channel, then go buy it all. peace man & do be safe.

I'm an old dude looking to get my 1st bike in over 30 yrs, this little bike you're on is on my list but back in 1981-82 I had a Kawasaki Kz1000. It was a fast dangerous bike which I survived. All it could ever do was to go fast & I've seen lots of big bike guys moving to the SM Bikes, like you. Speed is a relative thing meaning going fast on your bike down a sketchy path offers the same adrenaline rush as doing 160 down the interstate but is cheaper if ya crash. Trust your gut...... you're on this for a reason & if ya want a YT Channel, start changing bikes every 2 months. Ride safe but I think you look good on this bike, I'd be happy as a pig in slop to have it. peace

Nothing to worry about. Motorcycles use dog boxes instead of synchromesh transmissions. You should be in 1st when the bike comes to a stop, then move up and down as needed once you are in motion. If it gets hung on gears use the clutch so the dog can engage the next gear or hold the shift lever while rocking the bike. The dog is the same reason you can slap gears without the clutch. Designed to shift fast and hard don't baby it! Give her hell!

I tried a couple different styles of mirrors, over and under the bar and just couldn't see very well behind. I feel better if I know what's behind me. I ended up bending the stalk on the oem mirrors to almost 90 degrees so they are out to the side farther and I can see around my shoulder better. They're not great looking but I can see behind pretty good.

I change mine at about 1,000 to 1,500 miles. I now has 10k on it. I use Lucas full synthetic. when i changed it the first time it improved the shifting tremendously so I've stuck with it.
