Lexus is on it right now. I can't think of another brand with a design language as flexible as this generation of Lexus, without sacrificing strength and familiarity. This thing makes a G-Wagen look like a Wrangler, and if it's mechanically solid and the aftermarket embraces it it has a chance to go down as one of the greats. satosan pls make a 2d and a baja trim thx i love you

Because the rear glass still opens separate of the tailgate, I believe they didn't have enough clearance to tuck the rear wiper under the roof spoiler. I agree with you, it looks cleaner tucked (ala JLR RRs). But the glass-only access is convenient and cool too.

They didn't put it there because the rear camera for the mirror sits where the wiper motor would be on a lot of their SUVs.

@CACressida Great point! I also still think the wiper blade would not clear the rear roof spoiler when fully opening the rear trunk glass - least not without a complete redesign of the wiper blade mechanism

@@drewk8601 Why not? it works great on the GX460 . The rear glass also opens fully, the wiper is hidden completely under the upper spoiler. This one here is a step backwards. Looks like cost cutting.

@jdesmo1. Agreed. The new design also is boxier with slightly less of a slope in the rear glass angle. They may have wanted to reduce the lip overhang of the extended roof spoiler needed to tuck the wiper housing...or, like you said, just cut corners on cost. Either way, I'm in your camp on wishing they kept it tucked up top. Much cleaner aesthetic look

@@drewk8601 actually its more expensive doing it the way they did it now. The motor is mounted at the door and the wiper is mounted at the glass. They had to design a drive shafft and a safety sensor to go through the window to meet the motor when the glass shuts. This was strictly for the camera setup so the wiper sweeps over it and its tucked below the spoiler.

I think Lexus nailed the design. It makes me excited to see what its Toyota cousin - the Prado - will look like. The Prado comes with a version where the spare wheel is mounted at the rear door and comes with dual fuel tanks. Making it even more suited for longer offroad touring that we do in Australia.

I've owned GX's continuously since they first came out in 2003, and I can't wait for this one! Hope it keeps its bulletproof reliability, as that's a huge reason I love these things.

I think the jury is still out on the reliability since they started slapping in twin turbos like they did in the new tundra which they are having quite a few problems.I’ll stick to everything that is non turbo from Lexus.that happened with the LS also.I prefer all the older models that don’t have that issue with turbos

The V6 turbo will be its Achilles heel. Look at all of the issues owners have had with their Tundras and LS500. Hopefully Toyota has addressed all of the issues when these start to roll off the assembly plant.

I don't know if I'd say that. A lot of fans of the old Defender hate the new model hence cars like the Ineos Grenadier being made. This looks way better than the new Defender to me, it looks like a modern version of the J80 land cruiser

@@timchinn4416 well of course the defender purists would not like the new one because it looks very different, but the hallmark boxy design language was successfully re-interpreted so much so that thew new defender has a long waiting list for a vehicle that is quite expensive to acquire and run. Also, a lot of other manufacturers followed suit and had their own versions of boxy SUV because they want a slice of the pie. Certain Chinese brands like Jetour and Great Wall comes to mind as well as Japanese Toyota with the new Sequioa and now with the Lexus GX.

Unfortunately, the G-wagen has become much more purely a flashy status symbol more akin to the Range Rover or Escalade in that sense. This seems more like the Land Rover Defender in terms of likely price and functionality. It also has a similarly premium, yet restrained look. Out of those two, I think I prefer the cleaner lines of the Defender, but the expected reliability and unique look of the Lexus GX is really tempting now that they cleaned up the odd proportions, and improved the interior packaging from the old GX.

The reason the rear wiper is mounted at the lower edge of the glass is because, the wiper would require a cavity to be built in to the lower side of the spoiler, which might not be ideal in terms of aesthetic or function, maybe? But with the wiper mounted the way it currently is, the window can open to be almost flush to the bottom side of the spoiler. Initially when I looked at the front over hang from a side profile, I thought the vehicle looked hideous. Also do not particularly like the hexagonal shape of the wheel arches, but now after a couple of days, this thing is growing on me. Thanks for the video and discussion!

The 2 models shown by Lexus were actually the the two cheapest "entry" level trim levels. The one painted in "Earth" is the regular Overtrail not the + model. The Nebula Gray one was the base premium trim. The higher trims are premium+, Overtrail+, luxury & luxury+ which will have more features and cost more. I was quite surprised they didn't go show off the top dogs and instead chose the 2 cheapest.

I feel like with the introduction of the TX and the new GX, the LX will be kinda obsolete because the only real reason people would buy it is to have more room in the interior since the GX isn’t really known for its ability to haul passengers, but the TX serves that purpose. RIP LX 600 😢

About the A pillar colour, Defender has that option (i.e., body colour A pillar, black roof). Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not.

Two things I would have liked to see. The first is a split tailgate like the LX570 and LC had, but I am glad the barn door is gone. The other is better approach, departure and brake over angles, especially for the Overtrail trims. Hopefully they’ve still nailed reliability, and pretty sure the LX is still their largest SUV, the TX is just a Lexus badged sequoia

Actually the TX is a luxury version of the Grand Highlander. Speaking of the LX, height wise u r correct. Length and interior passenger and cargo volume, the TX is much bigger than the LX, especially the third row and behind it.

They're trying to Compete with the Land Rover Defender. This New Lexus has it beat in the interior but it may not come with a refrigerator center console and the Defender is untouched on the Exterior. I want this interior in a Defender.
