I brought it because of the ANCAP safety score. 99% driver protection score. AWD Astina 2.5. Fuel consumption improved after a 6 months of highway cruising. (7-7.5 avg.). Mazda free roadside assist for 5 years is reassuring. Had a battery issue, roadside put in new battery ($350) replaced for free. Has been otherwise reliable, no rattles. Comfort and finish remind me of Lexus in early days when Lexus built their reputation.

If you’re a tall dude with broad shoulders like me, you’re gonna wanna get the CX-30 over the 3. The 3 is too cramped for me.

I had a Cx-30 with mild hybrid tech (i-stop) as a rental last year. FWD, 2.0L with 6-speed torque converter. Nice run about, very economical when you drive normally, did see 8.5L.over 100km however that was 94 RON e10, so no doubt will be better with standard 91 RON, the worst I saw was 16L but I was driving hard getting everything it had. Two good and two bad: Good: 1: steering and ride ballance; Steering has great weight, its fast enough in normal driving but when you are driving on B or C back road the weight loads up and yiu can throw the CX-30 around, the suspension has the right amount of give even with 19x7.5 alloys (235/55/19 tyres) to be sporty and comfortable. 2: the fact thay Mazda have the gear lever with proper semi auto shift gate (move to the right then pull to upshift / push to downshift). I loath paddle shifters, total waste of time, that said Mazda offer both paddle shifters and semi-auto gear lever (with corrext shift gate). So much fun. Bad: 1: gutless engjne The 2.0L sky active need revs and lots of it to get any decent from it, 2: mild hybrid tech I have no idea what it did ither than the sheer irate grating start stop junk when in Sydney traffic. I know it has brake regen but I never see what it did other than to display: you saved 0.2gr of CO2 for this trip. I simoly switch off i-stop for every time I drive it. Interior is fine, typical Mazda. Mazda, overall don't know what they want to be, that is the only way to describe that company.

Something is off with the bootspace...lots of older reviews say that it is only 317L...doesn't look like 430L...what gives?

Great video! Subscribed from SA. We just bought a Nov build 2023 revised for 2024 CX-30 Astina GD25 with FWD.( didn't want to carry around 90 extra kg's of the AWD plus the extra complexity etc) The build and component quality are the best I've ever seen in almost any class of car! I will say that the engine starts smoother/less noise using 98 Premium fuel. The factory tyres are Made in Japan Toyo's and get the job done. It does steer very well and has adequate power for our needs as we are newly retired. Time will tell to see if Mazda's Otto/Atkinson experiment is viable in the long term. The Bose sound system is superb playing my CD's ripped to WAV onto my Sandisk flash drive. Cheers!

Mazda are really stepping up their game in so many areas however this has by far the lowest NVH I've yet experienced in their products. Our son works for Mazda Australia so I've been able to drive all models for 15 years. Trans still needs more work with TQ & clutch pack cooperation in very low speed stop start however it's a minor niggle so far. Cheers again.@@drivingenthusiastaustralia

Can’t wait for an update on this car. It’s so close to what I want. I just can’t get past that cladding. I’m fine with a tiny back seat and the infotainment controls. It just needs an update on the exterior. A little more aggressive with a thin cladding would sway me. Maybe

I was going to buy a CX30 in 2020, loved the way it drove and looked, I narrowed it down to a CX30 and a CRV ,after being loaned the CX30 for a weekend by the dealership I noticed that my two boys that sat in the back could not see out the windows in the rear they are very high so the kids felt sick and claustrophobic, I bought the CRV instead kids love it , and there is plenty of room in the back to keep the little punks separated when they start whinging, CX30 lovely car but no good if you have little kids under 3 feet.
@drivingenthusiastaustralia
@drivingenthusiastaustralia Ай бұрын
Yeah fair enough. The CR-V is a class above this, like CX-5, RAV4 etc. Better family cars 👍

I am sure you can get better results if you test it and put petrol with 100 octanic. They have low octanic petrol in Australia.

Great video as always mate. I love my CX-30 Astina. Just wish we got the 2.5 turbo that they have in the USA. Only thing I’ll say in your performance test, I think you may have forgotten to put the car in sports mode as I didn’t see sport lit up in the dash. Anyways great vid
@drivingenthusiastaustralia
@drivingenthusiastaustralia Ай бұрын
Thanks mate. Yeah I always test out all modes with the Vbox. The video is only a video; not actually timed runs. Sport mode is rarely heaps quicker in most cars to be honest - it only increases throttle response, doesn't increase outright power at full throttle. In fact, there has been a number of instances for me where 'eco' mode returned a quicker result in some cars. PS. The shadows in the video make it hard to see the 'sport' light but it is on. Just below the 'D'.
@kareembaba7498
@kareembaba7498 Ай бұрын
Like most cars, Sports mode just holds the gears longer, good for track use, but not acceleration tests.
@ramonmartin4908
@ramonmartin4908 Ай бұрын
Those acceleration times are slow ,for the 2.5L petrol 4.Even compared to CX5 ,which I'm sure will do 0 to100 in the 8 second range.

Yeah, these were the times we achieved with the Vbox on the day. We ran about 5 runs. Maybe warm weather impacted the potential.

The bold plastic wheel arches makes the car look cheap side on and will only get worse with a few years of Aussie sun on it. shame as the front end is so cleanly designed.

The US version CX-30 2.5 turbo AWD is a fantastic car. Very fast, handles great, quiet. The turbo version of the CX-30 is a completely different animal compared to the 2.5. If you’ve seen 2024 CX-30 carbon that’s it.

Mazda has been in the niche eco-budget friendly market for far too long, they haven’t designed a cool looking or interesting car in what seems like an eternity, both Mazda and Subaru make such boring soccer mum vehicles now that are gutless and have no personality, remember the RX-7 of the 90s-2000s and the Mazda MPS of the 2010s, it seems like an eternity ago, now all we have is just some family friendly Mazda 2.5 turbo that only produces 170kW which is laughable by todays standards. They should make a new MPS, the 190kW 2.3 turbo was such a little pocket rocket, but now they only cater to budget friendly families with sluggish cars like this because our market no longer purchases interesting vehicles anymore, thank God for Hyundai and Kia producing the goods because alot of brands are getting very dull.
