Would you take the soft top or retractable fastback for the 2024 Mazda MX-5?

Traded in my 2018 Black RF GT for a 2024 Soul Red soft top GT. I like the RF a lot and still in awe with the retractable roof opening/closing. But somehow it doesn't make me feel like i'm driving a convertible. So, been there, done it. Onto a soft top it is! The soul red ST is absolutely stunning!

Bought the RF for the looks and top up noise reduction thinking about 50/50 driving time in each configuration (up/down). After a year I find I drive about 70% of the time top down. Looking ahead no difference, huge blind spot though and increased wind noise. That being said, I don’t regret it when I open the garage or walk up to it in a parking lot, RF look so good.

So good to see local Canadian channels putting out great content and doing well! I wish you touched upon the adaptive cruise control with stop n go.. I wonder how that works with a manual transmission vs automatic.
@Modern.Motoring8 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for this great feedback! We really appreciate your support. Re the adaptive cruise, we hope we’re remembering it correctly, but we’re 99% sure it works just like any other adaptive system except you need to monitor it to make sure you don’t let the revs drop too low. So, it would work in 6th down to about 80 km/h and then you’d need to intervene. Hope that helps!

3:51 That's the answer and detail I've been hunting for about this latest MX-5 update. I had a 2015 and felt that the screen's top edge affected outward visibility. The screen was a little too high then. Nice to know the new screen has a lower top line.

Great video! I test drove a 2023 and loved it, but decided to wait for at least the 2024 refresh. it looks like it was worth the wait if i get one this year! Probably aim for a GS-P since it has a great feature package for the price, and I honestly much prefer cloth seats in our hot prairie sun. I am thinking they will keep this car only for a few years, maybe only into 2026. Even the last refresh of the NC was only a few years. Auto makers are getting pushed hard to turn to hybrid/EV so it will be soon.

Great review 👍 Jay and Steph! Great Mazda MX5, this car has aged so beautifully like a nice bottle of wine. A well made gem of a car. It has the best manual transmission in the automotive industry. The MX5 pricing also hits the spot and not overpriced like rest of the brands out there. As a whole Mazda is trailing behind Toyota for quality. Goodbye Nissan, Honda and Subaru…you guys miss the boat. Go back to Japan and retool your branding and quality control.

I don't get ppl arguing about the blindspot for the RF. It will never match a 'real' convertible since there's literally nothing behind. Just get used to it, as if one is driving a reg car because most of vehicles have structures behind the driver as well.

My 2020 with Ohlin coilovers and progress sway bars is every bit as good if not better than the ND3. Even with its steering up date. The lights were a cost savings as moving the DRL’s into the headlights saved on wiring and extra light in the lower bumper. Save for the rear. As for the screen on the dash, I would have rather they eliminated that all together. Unfortunately they missed an opportunity to finally give the wants of most enthusiasts a turbo option. I feel they would have sold out every other produced, unfortunately this would have started a bidding war and all the dealer markup games.
@Modern.Motoring9 ай бұрын
Those coilovers make a world of difference. We keep semi-jokingly asking our Mazda Canada rep if MazdaSpeed will ever return. He entertains our questions and responds with the classic "we cannot comment on future products" and we know that it won't come back. Appreciate your comments - thank you!

@@Xj900_24 My friend Leo has a 22 Club. We left the Bilstiens on and change out the springs. I believe they were Progress from Goodwin Racing. We also replaced the front and rear sway bar like I did. And yes, the club is now a much much better car. Id say his road like mine with the Ohlins when I have them at 15 clicks. I can say you truly would agree after that it transformed the car into a much higher end car feel. I thinking he spent about $1,000 dollars in total including new adjustable endlinks both front and rear.

@@Xj900_24 The front bar takes patience, however I did it in one and a half hours after watching a handful of videos. Let me know if you get them, I could communicate with you to coach you. Trust me it a great upgrade with just the bars. And I highly recommend the Progress sway bar kit the Goodwin racing offers . It comes with an upgrade to the rear mounts to strengthen them. All you would need is adjustable end links. Call them. Number is on their website. Ask questions they are really helpful
