Mods: 1. Cravenspeed Gemini cup holder phone mount + any qi charger for phone mount 2. Aurora low profile seat mount is the best one 3. Verus throttle pedal spacer (if you want even better pedal placement) 4. Settings > Connectivity > Bluetooth/iPhone to enable touchscreen in motion 5. Throttle controller helps with better response (i.e. pedal commander) 6. Blackbird rollbar is better IMO Swaybars are a better first mod, they make the most difference. Xidas are amazing. The majority of mods occurred in the past 5 years. The engine has 150k+ miles and still pulls strong. I don't know what the laws are for smog emission in Las Vegas NV but if they're anything like Florida, then I will recommend you do a complete exhaust from Goodwin Racing. This includes RoadsterSport Max Torque 4-2-1 length ceramic-coated header, RoadsterSport 304 Stainless Midpipe coupled with the RoadsterSport Super-Q Twin Tip Exhaust. Please remember to do a tune from a reputable tuner in your area because these mods will benefit from it. With regards to suspension, going with Ohlins Road and Track DFV Coilovers are the best in terms of quality and performance. Knowing what I know now, I would have done this mod to my car. You already have light BBS 17x7 wheels with new OEM tires. When it comes times to replace the stock tires, I recommend the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S or Continental Extreme ContactSport 02 in sizes 205/45/17 or slightly taller 217/45/17 which fills out the wheel well with sidewall better than stock. The stock size is better for acceleration and turn-in response whereas the slightly taller tire will be better for ride comfort over broken pavement and daily-driving when you lower your car. Both tires are high summer performance tires; great in dry and wet conditions with decent tread life (40k for Michelin and around 35k for Continental). Hope this help! --Fernando

Think about ppf for the front bumper and hood. I did not initially put ppf on my ND2 for the same reason as you. However, the low hood is a magnet for rock chips. And Mazda paint, particularly the red, is difficult to spray. After having the front of my car repainted due to rock chips, it’s now ppfed. It’s for daily use and tracking, not being babied, but I’ve never had a car that collected chips like this. It has surprisingly become my most adored sports car, and ppf has worked great. Adding an Emira soon! And I won’t be getting rid of the Miata. Once you break it in, swap coils/dampers/sway bars, you’ll see why. I think even in Las Vegas! (FYI have been very happy with Goodwin Racing’s sway bars, bump stops, and Super Q Twin Tips. Garageline spacers 15 mm front, 20 mm rear are perfect for stock wheels (don’t go bigger or you’ll rip out your wheel well liner in the front.) Great content, as always. You helped my wife appreciate that an Emire and a Miata are not redundant. So your videos really are a public service. Thank you!

I tried all four drop positions and found the minimal drop of 33mm to be the best for me seating wise. All the other positions brought my knees too close to the steering wheel and would require mods to adjust. The 33mm drop gives me room over my head and I got to say that the seat rake angle is much better than stock. It really feels comfortable, did a weekend drive for eight plus hours in the seat without any issues and very comfortable. I have a 2024 RF Club. ND2 owner here with a phone charger "solution". In mine I have a MagSafe charging puck but also bought a 6" cable to pair with it. The cable make a simple u-bend and I keep the puck in the recess in front of the shifter. Bottom of the puck is kind of rubbery so it doesn't move around when it's on the recess's mat (which is also kind of rubbery). When I get in, I just toss my phone into the recess, it snaps to the MagSafe charger and away I go (waiting for the phone to sync up). Nothing slides around. No long cable to get tangled on anything. Very discrete, neat, and tidy.

As far as tint, I’ve considered the same things. I’ve had 70 percent on the windshield of 2 cars now and don’t notice it’s there. 50 percent on side windows is barely noticeable on my cars in bright sun and not bad at night but obviously darker than stock. For top down, window up driving I would be tempted to go 70 percent tint on the sides too. As far as rollbars, I’m planning to go blackbird RZ. It’s cleaner aesthetically to me and apparently not visible in your rear view mirror. HD you will probably see the braces in your mirror, but it’s big advantage is lower price. RZ for me. I look forward to seeing what you choose for your mods and what you think of them.

I can't edit my previous comment, so I'll just add another one here. I really recommend against the hush-o-matic. I thought it'd be a solution for no drone and a louder sound when opened up, but it rattles like crazy. The sound baffle and mechanism is all metal and didn't have any rubber sound deadening around the moving parts so it rattle like crazy at low rpm. I'm really sensitive to drone so I went through 3-4 exhausts and finally landed on goodwinracing's quiet version of their exhaust lineup. It's the only exhaust I found to truly have 0 drone under any circumstance.

Best thing about the Miata is when it has to go to the mechanic and all cars eventually do the mechanic is going to be happy about how simple it is to work on. For coil-overs, you might also consider the MeisterR ZetaSports made specifically for the ND. I'm very happy with these on my car. They came to my house in five days from the UK. It took me some time to get them adjusted the way I want but man, they are good. I dropped the ride height 1.25 inches without any issues. Just remember to get a performance alignment. It makes a remarkable difference. Flying Miata has the alignment specs on their website. These three things dramatically transform the performance of the car for not a lot of time and money. Tires and wheels are next for me.

There is a mount that goes right next to the hazard AC vent on the right. You have to remove the panels from the right door and then the glovebox area comes off and you can stick it on. It is magsafe compatible and that's what I use to hold my phone. It uses 3m tape and sit in a natural dent that the ND cars have in that position, then the glovebox compresses the mount against the spot basically. Course motorsports. I like it because it is more minimal than the other bulky mounts.

Thanks for the excellent review, one of the few that discusses the Recarros. Owning an ND has been a goal for several years. I’m trying to decide between the club with standard seats vs one with the Recarros. Would you say that the Recarros improve the seating position? I’ve read that you might sit a little lower in them. Almost can't go wrong regardless of which ND you get, but for me, after weighing everything, I went with the GT, manual, soft top. The GT manual (at least in the ND2 and beyond era) also gets the LSD / Bilstein bits. While I like spirited driving I'm not going to track my car and it's intended purposed is fun on the road. So I wanted something with more conducive daily usability. After sitting in the Recaros I find they hug you very well but they're a little snug for, um, my wide frame. And they're tougher for me to get in and out of. For a car I daily drive the regular seats are much better suited. Still hold me well enough in the turns but easier to get in and out of. I might be weird but I find the ND's non-recaro seats quite comfortable. I've done MANY 10+ hr weekend drives with our club and still feel good and refreshed at the end of the day. PROVIDED! I take my wallet out of my rear pocket (I toss it in the center storage bin). Anyways, I also like the double-lined soft top roof that comes with the GT for a smidge quieter cabin. And while I told myself I didn't care about the other tech features that come with the GT (adaptive headlights, rain sensing wiper (dear lord are they awesome), etc.) I find I really like the total package. Personally, unless you're tracking the car, I'm not seeing a significant improvement the Recaro / BBS / Brembo package gives you. The BBS wheels are lighter, but not significantly so. And the Brembos . . . . my understanding is they don't necessarily stop the car better than the stock brakes . . . but they handle heat better if you're on track or do a lot of breaking. After A LOT of fun, very spirited driving on public roads I've had zero issues with the standard brakes. It's a cool package but not one I'd pony up for. For what it's worth, I love this thing but I'm also appreciating the balance Mazda came up with on the stock cars. Ride is good, semi-firm but not harsh, it's designed to soak up a lot of road imperfections which we have in roads in WA state. But the Miata just gobbles them up, very composed. Likewise, I'm not lowering the car at all. Stock ride height is "fine" and I don't have to worry about creeping over curb cuts or speed bumps and can just drive the car "normally." The only mods I've done was get the car aligned as close to the Goodwin Racing / Flying Miata alignment specs as possible on stock suspension. And then installed the Goodwin Racing Superstreet single tip axle-back exhaust. Just perfect. Not too loud but VERY exhilarating when winding out the engine with a wonderful sound. Yet composed at lower RPMs so it's not obnoxious for my neighbors coming and going through the neighborhood. Good luck on someday getting one.

@@lupinsea thank you for the reply and detail. Your driving scenarios seem to mirror what mine would be. I don't plan to track the car but for weekend trips and local driving. I have test driven the ND-3 and also found the stock seats in the club and GT to be quite comfortable. I didn't realize the GT included a double-lined soft top and that interests me as I want to drive the vehicle year round and a quieter cabin is appealing. The cost savings of removing the brembo/bbs/recarro package is also a positive. I plan on purchasing mine in the next several months. What color did you go with?
@lupinsea3 ай бұрын
@@scottwalker5793 Preemptive congrats on getting a Miata in a few months! That's awesome! Don't mistake me in that there is still wind or road noise even with the double-lined top in the GT . . . it's a soft top convertible after all. But it's not bad. I've done several 8-10+ hr driving days this spring and summer doing driving events with my Miata Club and it's just fine in that I don't find it fatiguing. Not as quiet as a regular car but just fine and I don't think about it. I bought mine used as a 2022 back in February and my color priority was the Soul Red Crystal Metallic or the dark metallic charcoal gray (can't remember exact name). Ended up finding a low-ish mile Soul Red GT manual. Pretty much my exact spec. This may sound silly but while I appreciate what the Club has to offer (particularly with the optional Brembo/BBS/Recaro package, honestly, it *is* a cool package), I just liked the overall package of the GT and it seemed to fit how I'd be using the car. Plus I've come to really like some of the tech features. Basically what did it for me on the GT was: double-lined soft top, body-color matching side mirrors, and the dark silver wheels (vs. black on the Club), and the lack of the cosmetic "aero" trim from the GT. I was "meh" on the leather seats (would have preferred cloth but the leather is fine) and "meh" on the tech stuff. But after living with it, man, I do love the rain sensing windshield wipers. And the adaptvie high-beams. Otherwise, I think the standard Club and GT aren't that far apart and it's just down to some non-critical details. Both get the LSD / Bilsteins when spec'd as a manual which was critical for me. The only "mods" I've done was to get it aligned as close to the Fly'n Miata / Goodwin Racing alignment specs as possible on stock suspension (my mechanic had me sit in the driver's seat during the alignment so the car was perfectly set up left vs. right with me in it) and add the Goodwin Racing Superstreet single-tip axle-back exhaust (holy crap is that awesome). Everything else is stock (suspension, sway, brakes, still on factory tires) and I find it is a fantastic balance. Zippy, fun, excellent handling and *I* don't think the body roll is bad or that it's "too soft". The ride is firm without being harsh and it soaks up the road imperfections so well I don't ever have to worry about anything. Anyways, good luck with everything. I think you'll have a blast, these are *fantastic* cars!

Some other nice upgrades....Flying miata threaded antenna plug-who is listening to FM anyway? My antenna is in the trunk if I ever want it. Black stainless exhaust tips-finishes off tips and matches club aero pieces. Glove box shelf-nice to put wallet and registration on it so don't have to fish around in large compartment. Smoked led side markers and sequential side blinkers. LED bulb in dome light-stock is dim. Machined red aluminum battery brace-matches red oil cap and makes engine compartment look even better. 215/45/17 PS4S tires are a nice touch as well

Goodwin Racing has the Roadster Sport Superstreet that you mentioned. It has a Helmholtz chamber to cancel out drone at cruising speeds while getting louder on heavy throttle. I don’t have it yet but that’s what I plan to get. They have the SuperQ as a quieter option and roadster sport race as the loudest option. Twin tip for deeper bass heavy sound , single tip for higher pitched sound at high revs/more racy.
@lupinsea3 ай бұрын
I went with the Goodwin Superstreet single tip. Absolutely love it. Just perfect. Civilied down low in the RPM band when I'm just cruising (which is what I wanted), but dear God, the sound it makes when you rip up through the higher RPM and gears. Uuungh! Oh, and it wakes up a veeeery single burble and snort as you're coasting down through the lower RPMs. And there's no drown. FWIW, left the baffle tip in for a smidge quieter sound and appreciate the GWR includes it as both a design feature and also includes it with the muffler for final tuning by the owner.

I just test drove one today and I can’t believe how light the clutch is, kinda off putting bc I can’t really feel the friction zone. Also wasn’t a huge fan of how claustrophobic the cabin is (coming from a Mini Cooper owner). Really trying to like this as everyone says it’s the ultimate driving experience but my 2 min experience around the dealer block wasn’t the best. Maybe I can still be converted
@mikeb95694 ай бұрын
The more you drive it, the better it gets. After nearly a million miles or so, my driving is still improving and the fun is still increasing. It's best at the limits of grip and beyond, but it's great puttering around in cruise mode, too. The BRZ/GR86 twins are roomier and have similar driving dynamics, you may want to check them out. IMO RWD beats FWD and AWD (unless you can adjust front to rear bias) for maximum fun.

I have tint on my NC Miata. 50% windshield and 30% sides and back. 50% is too dark on the windshield. Dusk/night driving gets sketchy sometimes with reflections and such. 30% on the sides is solid. If I were to do it over, I’d go 80% windshield and 35% sides

For the ND2, I find you have to blip progressively more (and noticeably more) as the gears get higher. So 2nd needs the least, and 5th needs the most. I'm not sure if that changed for the ND3. Random comparison, in my GR Corolla, the blip amounts required are a lot closer to eachother.
@jubbalandcars4 ай бұрын
Not about gears. All about gear spacing. 3->2 requires the hardest blip given hearing spacing. All the others are consistent and less
@marcaquii4 ай бұрын
@@jubbalandcars strange. Different feels I guess. I felt the exact opposite and I heel toed everywhere even around town for over a 1.5 year of ownership. The only time I can imagine a harder 2nd gear blip is if I’ve been cruising in 4th at low rpm then skipping down to 2nd. Oh well. Great car. Can’t wait to get back into one.

Surprised you went with a 'low power' NA car being in Vegas.. At 2500ft you're losing about 15-18% of your HP.. The only NA car I had when I lived there was a Challenger Scat Pack manual, so I didnt really notice a difference... well, at least until I took it on a roadtrip to SDC, lol.. I stuck with FI cars after that.. And you really can't drop the top too much during sunlight.. maybe 2 months out of the year it's 'nice' (March n Nov).. otherwise it's too hot or too cold (it's high desert people.. i gets below 50 regularly in the winter and it's windy af lol).. I can drive my ND1 about 20x more often up here in the PNW (50s-60s and overcast is perfect.. hoodie+beanie+heater)..

How is the interior going to be with a helmet on for track days. I tracked my gr86 last weekend and my head was hitting the roof and I'm 510. I going to try turning my headrest around backwards for the next time out to see if that helps. Also is the convertible going to be a problem for track days?

Be careful with tint on the windshield, water seeped down to my engine start button & corroded it, needed to be replaced & cleaned. $800 by Mazda but if you let it get bad you’d have to replace the whole harness for the engine start. Quoted 5k if that was the case for me. I own a 23 RF & the work was paid by the shop.

I wish Mazda had updated the gearbox. 23’s were still blowing boxed at low mileage/ normal street driving. Especially considering that miatas are a very low volume vehicle, seeing just 1 or 2 failures of such major powertrain component is extremely concerning, let alone tens of them… That’s way too high of failure rate for modern automotive standards. The ND generation FACTUALLY has inherently weak gearbox(Dave Coleman, the Mazda guy who actually engineered the vehicle, admitted that the gearbox is the “Achilles hill” of the ND gen) and hopefully Mazda fixed that for the ND3 update. Although I doubt that, since that would require designing a new transmission ground up.

Sadly if they didn't fix it for 7 years I doubt they did anything for the ND3.
