What can we say about the Mazda6 that hasn't already been said? After all, this 3rd-gen been around for about 12 years (yes, 12!) now. Whether you prefer it in sedan or wagon (Touring) flavours, the car barely looks, handles, or feels its age. It might have been ahead of its time, but time always catches up. And unfortunately, Mazda has yet to announce a true successor to continue to the bloodline, preferring to double down on new SUV models. What a shame.
The Mazda6 in Malaysia sits in that narrow cavern that separates the D-segment and the mid-size premium sedan, and when you sit in the car and go for a drive, that distinction blurs even more. Pliant and refined, but agile and responsive, this Mazda proves why it continues to tug at the heartstrings of so many enthusiasts.
Is this the curtain call? And does it justify its continued existence in showrooms when nearly every rival within Malaysia - the Nissan Teana, Volkswagen Passat, Ford Mondeo, Peugeot 508 - has walked away.
Now with the most recent departure of segment staple, the Honda Accord, there's only the Toyota Camry for the Mazda6 to do battle with (oh yeah, and the Volkswagen Arteon...).
Is it good enough?
