As a viewer from Europe (Sweden) I state this: Owned quite a few VAG cars during the years. All DSG-box, both diesel and petrol. My verdict is affordable cars with a high level of comfort and attention to deatails. High end engines are very potent indeed. The lower specs is a dream to own regarding ownership costs. No issues worth mention in any of the cars. But maybe, I was just lucky 🙂 Thanks guys for another Great review!

My brother had a 140TDI Highline, it was a great car, bought a 2015 build in early 2016 had sold it in 2021, he had no real issues with it (unlike the Tesla he replaced it with) the only issue I ever recall was the AC would intermittantly not work and it took the dealership 3 goes to diagnose and fix it (from memory he gave it to them for a couple days and told them to drive it) it was brilliant on fuel (we drove Sydney to Brisbane on less than half a tank) and the ride was extremely comfortable.

Have a 1.8 version with the DSG dry clutch. Done 185k plus kmh so far. No major issues. Replaced the dry clutch pack twice under warranty and had some issues with the water pump. But other than that, all other work carried out are nothing unusual compared to any other cars I’ve owned before. It’s an average car in town but a joy to drive once the road opens and you’re doing speed above 120 kmh. Power delivery is very good, the car is light on its feet, you don’t feel the overhang on the front. You can make sudden turns midway without upsetting its composure. Have done a max of 242kmh. Still stable and refined. It’s pretty spacious too and with a big booth (more than 500 litres) to match. The only other problem I’ve had (maybe it’s specific to me) is the drivers seat which doesn’t seem to support my back as well as I’ve would like. Could be due to my weight which is 90plus kgs. From exchanging notes amongst fellow friends who drive the Passat, the one common thing we notice is that most owners who have complains about the reliability of their Passats are almost without fail, the ones who tend to drive their car slowly and gently. The Passat is meant to be driven fast and hard. The car loves this. Wear and tear will be there but overall we have very little issues with the car compared to those driving it gently. So go out and go hard on these. I usually use the manual gears on the highway and the acceleration and overtaking is such joy, the car able to keep up with cars that have supposedly far more power. Lovely car. Wish I had purchased the 2.0 version though.

I've got the exact spec in this video, done 180kms. I've never had an issue, bar some cosmetic bits and pieces. It's rapid, it's refined, handles like a gem and has more kit than most specs of 3 series do today. Real world fuel eco of 7.3/100.I know VWs get maligned but I've been right on or before with servicing the whole journey and it's been a brilliant car. It does ride a bit stiff over bumps with the low profiles and 19s. Swapped to Michelin sports from the factory pirellis. There can be some slight creaking in front shocks but it's a known issue when servicing you can get across easily. Just sold mine last month after ticking over 5 years ownership. Was the best car I've ever had right up until it hit 90k km's. At that point the water pump was leaking, the DSG would throw itself into neutral at any speed - IE total power loss whether you're doing 20kmh or 110kmh. Completely threw my confidence in the car and at that point I knew it was time to off load it. Quotes to fix the water pump and DSG were eye watering, and the comments at 11:57 about the DSG always being on the back of your mind is spot on. Ultimately traded it in for peanuts on a new RAV4, and it certainly feels like a step up in reliability but a huge step down in comfort and features. For the first 90k km's it was a dream car. But the potential for being a money pit around the 100k mark onwards it's hard to recommend them, or any other VW/Audi Group car.

I’ve got a B7 (couldn’t afford anything newer) and I love it, diesel, and I drive 70km each way for work and get 4.9L per 100 going 120kph the whole way, full tank gives me 1,480km to empty. I had a turbo Territory before this, which got 14.1L per 100 if I babied it… and this car’s fuel usage has saved me enough money to buy a whole another territory. My only complains are the electronic tailgate which was dodgy, had to get it converted to manual. The dash in mine also rattled, but you can remove the shroud and insert a screw which VW decided to not have one in, and it’s gone. Occasionally the Bluetooth will freeze. The headlights are the base model halogen ones, and if I want projector ones with DRL’s then I’ll need to fork out a ton and get them coded. However the halogen drl’s I simply swapped out for white LED’s and it greatly enhances the look. No car play, but when I get money I’ll get a VW head unit with it, they’re easy to find online. Overall I really enjoy the car ❤

Purchased an MY21 206 wagon last year to replace an MY17 Octavia RS wagon. The improvement in the interior is very noticeable - much better fit out and aesthetics. As mentioned the seats in the Passat are great both front and rear. The 206 gets soft Nappa leather. Car does long distance trips easily. I also like the fact the Passat has a full sized spare Both have a Stg 1 tune so the 4wd is very beneficial. The bigger turbo in the Passat does take a little longer to spool up. Was surprised the fuel line rattle I had in the Octavia also surfaced in the Passat. Not a big deal I guess as both were an easy fix under warranty. No other issues of note in the Passat which is sitting on 28k. The Octavia had an issue with one of the steering wheel scroll wheels fixed under warranty. It also developed a cooling leak at 90k caused by an O ring failure - was a $2 fix. Still had the original water pump when sold. Both great cars - especially in wagon form - but it seems most don’t see it that way. Anyone looking at a later model Passat should note that the MY23 Passats are affected by the chip shortage and as such have some safety items removed. Was the reason I went for a slightly older one.

@smoothcall01Ай бұрын
@@queanbeyanking The Octavia is more nimble. You can feel the weight difference between the two. If I’m being realistic the Passat suits the sort of driving I do better and I do like the traction it offers. I always turn off the stop/start so can’t comment with any authority on that. In the Octavia I could turn it off permanently via a ODB tool. VW stopped that in later models so I have to press a button each time in the Passat.

Owned a 2015 Mazda 6 and it was the most boring car I've ever driven. Now driving a Skoda Superb Wagon with the absolutely brilliant 3.6 V6 engine and oh boy what a car it is. Whilst I've had a serious issue getting parts locally, had none getting them from overseas and in some cases they were cheaper than I could get locally (including postage) a couple of cases, also quicker! (had discs coming from Ingleburn to Brisbane that took 2 weeks but pads from Latvia turned up in 4 days!) The comment you brought up about it looking like a HWP car is the 1 reason I hated owning my Commodores. People that were suspicious of your car instantly became a problem as they'd slow down and be a nuisance even more than they already were some to a point they actually did even stupider things to see if you would pull them over.

Talk about 'nailing it' - I had a 2007 Passat and this B8 looks the same - exteriod look and feel, interior just looks high spec of the 2007 one, the design of the console is the SAME (USB, and parking breaks etc)... so... ok... (I had an eletrical issue where it would just STOP while driving... I sold it on) and after dXXXXXXgate nothing from the VW group every for me ..... but a GREAT video...

Fixed a friends 2014 Passat. It had a broken fuel filler door release switch in the drivers door. So the car would not release fuel tank pressure. Could not put fuel in it. Despite the few positives of these cars, the stupidity of some of the design "features" will cost you all your money when they break. Same car, its driver door window motor wiring harness and connector got corroded. VW said there were something like ELEVEN different harnesses for that car, all at staggering prices. I just rebuilt the harness and connector using pins from junkyard VWs and told him to sell the car. Stay gold.

In terms of storage in the sedan we fitted a 3 metre fold out market umbrella with stand in the back no problem with 2 humans up front 😎👍.

The Passat ain't a bad car but I would honestly suggest to change the transmission oil every 60k km and do your engine a favor and change the oil every 10k km. The Diesel ones are really fricking great in reliability but make sure, Water pump works properly, because no matter what engine spec you buy, these things always fail at some point. Also if you are about to get the smaller engines like the 1.6 TDi with 120hp or 1.5 TSi with 150hp. Those come with a dry clutch transmission, which doesn't like any tuning going above 250nm of torque. I would suggest you go with anything that has atleast 2 litres. Also on 4Motion Cars, You should change the haldex oil together with the Transmission oil. And make sure Dual Mass Flywheel can also fail.
@kenlawton15316 ай бұрын
The DSG (DQ250) and Haldex service interval is 3yr or 60k and you're right, get on top of them and zero issues.

I got a B6 with 225k (km) on the clock and only ever had to replace an injector (besides standard maintenance) and own a B8 alltrack which had a DSG (mechatronics unit) failure but luckily replaced under warranty. Otherwise seems fault free (for now at 150k km)

I have a 2016 Wagon fully optioned,AWD DSG All the features but.... If you are buying one of these make sure to try out that DSG quite a bit or just go for a Manual... Mine has now 2 days ago Failed... Serviced it regularly,but still shat itself... Reverse it want to die and sometimes shuts off,1 to 2 is a big Hit, being in 2nd is traumatizing because it randomly just cuts all the Drivetrain and can even stall completely,2-3 or 3-2 is kinda like being in 2.5 because it doesnt know in wich gear to be and then 3-4 it shifts to soon into 4th then realises its mistake and gets back to 3rd again and so over and over... mine is going ti cost 7200€ for a new gearbox...

Ok, you may have persuaded me that I should try another VW (I'm on my third and it's a money pit), but I chuckled at the effect of people thinking you are an unmarked police car. I once got given a white Mercury Grand Marquis as a rental from Hertz on a business trip. It's basically a Ford Crown Victoria which was the standard police car in the early 2000s. I drove from Raleigh NC to Kingsport TN, to Philadelphia PA, to New York in that thing and on the highway stretches I found people moving out of the way as I cruised up behind them in that big white barge before they spotted the Mercury badge wasn't a Ford one. 😄

Skoda 2012 Octavia owner 125V-Rs 6 speed DSG mechatronic unit failed. There are no replacement DSG units in Austraiia, $4k installed for a second hand unit with 110,000 km on the clock. Brilliant vehicle - handles well, powerful enough for me, high 4.7 to 5.2l/100km on the highway, very room boot. Love hate relationship - would buy a manual in a heartbeat - wouldn't trust the DSG.

@ReDriven you should be glad Volkswagen didn't put plastic trims around the window/door frame. Every car I have had those on, squeaks and rattles where those strips were installed. Namely on a Holden Astra RS-V (otherwise solidly built) and on a 2004 Saab 9-3 Aero which had a whole bunch of other rattles - but still I'm convinced that's why they don't have them on this, my Skoda Octavia or any of the other cars I've owned.

I travel a lot and rent a lot of cars to drive around Australia and NZ. There was a time when Europcar used to rent Passat diesel wagons before VW were caught with their hands in the dodgy jar and diesels became as popular as poo in a hat. But of all the cars I've rented the Passat diesel wagon was just the best bloody car ever for a long journey. Fast, spacious, comfortable and unbelievably economical. I could drive from the Gold Coast to Cairns and get over 1,300kms out of a tank which meant just one fill up on a 2200km journey. I miss the Passat.

Given the sharing of parts, is there any difference in ~10 year reliability of a Skoda Superb vs a VW Passat? At this point I'm leaning towards the Mazda 6 wagon which I know is smaller than both, but may be more reliable, and cheaper to fix if anything does go wrong.
