2024 Mini Countryman Review: Interior, Price, Engine, Exterior

Review of the 2024 MINI Cooper Countryman.
The cheeky external design and quirky interior, furnished with premium materials, are carried over into the 2024 version. Three- or four-cylinder turbocharged engines with front- or all-wheel drive provide the power, and a plug-in hybrid powertrain is also an option. The Cooper Countryman is less enjoyable to drive than its smaller brothers, and one of the things that has drawn people to other contemporary Minis is their lively nature while behind the wheel. Without it, and up against fantastic rivals such as the Volvo XC40, BMW X1, and Audi Q3, the Countryman's history and vintage styling are just insufficient to win us over.
What Is 2024 Bringing?
The Cooper Countryman for the 2024 model year has not seen much modifications. The plug-in hybrid variant now comes with the Signature Trim 2.0. In addition, the Active Cruise Control, Parking Assistant, and Power Tailgate technologies are now standard on Iconic Trim 2.0 vehicles.
Cost and Selection of Items for Purchase.
Depending on the trim and extras, the 2024 Mini Countryman's pricing ranges from $33,645 to $43,695.
Because of its turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which produces 55 more horsepower than the conventional three-cylinder, we choose the Cooper S. All S models come with 18-inch wheels, a panoramic sunroof, rear parking sensors, and front seats that are supportive. For an additional fee, all-wheel drive is an option for those who desire the greater traction it provides. Because of its 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, dual-zone temperature control, heated front seats, and passive entry, we would choose the mid-level Signature Trim package for our Countryman. We also include the Driver Assistance package, which includes a head-up display and adaptive cruise control.
Performance, Transmission, and Engine.
There are three different powertrain models in the Countryman series. The standard engine, a turbocharged three-cylinder with 134 horsepower, is insufficient to move the crossover's weight of nearly 3300 pounds in any meaningful way. Even with its stronger 189 horsepower turbo-four, the Cooper S lacks the exhilaration we want. The fastest non-JCW Countryman we've tested is the plug-in hybrid, but it also costs the most. A sporty seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is standard on non-hybrid front-drive cars, while an eight-speed automatic is fitted on all-wheel-drive variants. Not that the austere attitude of the Countryman is a negative thing; it's simply different from other Minis' attitudes, which are unabashedly fun. It takes some getting used to the large dead zone at the top of the brake pedal's travel on the plug-in hybrid.
Cargo, Comfort, and Interior.
Typical Mini design cues can be seen throughout the Countryman's interior, including toggle switches for the ignition, stop-start system, and interior lighting that are mounted in a huge circular unit in the center of the dash. The Countryman's cabin, which is made of premium materials and provides enough room for passengers, has several positive aspects. Long rides will be pleasant for backseat passengers, but if you want a center armrest, you'll need to get the Convenience package. There are enough of storage places in the interior to accommodate personal belongings, but the Countryman has less cargo space than some of its smaller rivals. Although Mini compensates for this by offering a respectable quantity of underfloor storage, the majority of that space is used up by using the available spare tire.
Real-world mileage and fuel economy.
With a combined EPA rating of 73 MPGe, the plug-in hybrid Cooper S E is the most fuel-efficient Countryman. With up to 26 city and 32 highway mpg, the three-cylinder model is the most fuel-efficient of the nonhybrid variants.
