This mock is good so far but Is Buzelis a better prospect than GG Jackson or likely to contribute as much as Vince Williams Jr. and Santi Aldama next year? I don’t think so I’d personally rather them look for a backup guard replacement from losing Tyus Jones like Sheppard or Dillingham or grab a center like Clingan. But at the end of the day that’s not a bad pick I guess because Buzelis could easily be way better than Vince Williams and Santi Aldama but I think it will take time. Also Steph Castle ceiling is higher than Derrick White imo it’s closer Jimmy Butler but his floor is just a role player if he can’t shoot at a decent level and doesn’t add more strength and advanced ball handling
@na_k
@na_k 5 ай бұрын
Your question is correct. Buzelis isn't a better prospect than GG, and won't see an NBA floor with GG, Santi, and others ahead of him. He's a multi-year project at best, not a contributor yr 1.

First off, excellent content and prep here. You really know your players history well. That’s hard to do. Kudos to you! I don’t think there has been an off-season/predraft that has this much significant upside to the players who will be available. International stars can be tricky, same with G-League players. With that said, I do like Ron Holland to Portland, if they have the chance to draft him. They need a decent SF. He’s a 3 and D wing that can finish at the rim. I think he would make a decent SF, providing he stays healthy. Like his fit, with the core of Scoot, Ant/Shae/Ayton. Then, if Filipowski is still on the board at 14, they could have a decent backup Center, Portland can play behind Ayton, and if Robert Williams gets injured again, they’d have a developmental Backup Center. Blazers need bigs. Hopefully, they’ll get at least one this season.

Honestly I think that Clingon would be a better pick for Memphis - they really need rebounding and screen-setting after they traded Adams, and I don't believe they need any more shooters. Clingon alse feels like he is more ready to play in a contender rn and is less of a project player than Buzelis, and Grizzlies are surely gonna be aiming for the top after this disastrous season. The only thing Buzelis has over Clingon (when it comes to being a fit at Grizzlies) is his playmaking potential, as they need some secondary ball-handler, however he still seems too raw for their ambitions.

Not a fan of Zac to the Pistons. I have doubts on his defense and playmaking but I see why most people think he’ll fit in Detroit. He just doesn’t strike me as a #1 overall pick kinda like when the Suns picked Ayton over Bagley at the time. Obviously both didn’t really pan out but I’d rather have someone like Sarr or Reed Shepherd on this team.

@@itmejac6945- I mean high as far as him being top 5, but not necessarily the consensus number one pick, but I don’t see a reason for pistons to pick sarr or castle with there pick when they are already loaded at that, they need a shooter, Risacher, Williams and Rob Dillingham are the only “good shooters” her this high up, I don’t think they need or going to pick Rob here, so I think that narrows it down to Risacher or Williams, and while both have similar skill sets, Risacher has slightly better defensive projection because his combination of Size, Speed and Length.

If the Blazers don’t luck into picking first (Sarr) they have a lot of work to do. In any case, they must fully commit to a rebuild and move the veterans for high upside youth or picks. If Zach Kleiman takes Buzelis over Clingan, he’d be fired (obviously an exaggeration, he won’t). We don’t need forwards, no one is touching Bane’s starting SF spot, VWJ first off the bench, GG is a flex PF/SF. In PF spot it’s a logjam, JJJ BC Aldama are all guys we desperately want to avoid playing the 5, hurts my eyes every time I see someone suggesting “they can finally move JJJ to the 5” like no, that’s a doomsday scenario. And we have 0 centers in this team, if Zach takes a SF/PF instead of a C he’d be fire.

Good mock but a couple thoughts, I understand that McCain is the mold of a Sam presti player but u can’t draft a point guard every year especially when they need size, They already have Wallace Joe giddey and shai as their guards, I like ke’el ware to them because of his shooting upside or missi, secondly I don’t understand using the 13th pick on a backup center, either trade down and get a center or draft a wing like Jakobe maybe Salaun, I even like Tyler smith as a hybrid 4/5 for them
@jordandaher9652

Lol so you want Okc to take a backup center at 12 But don’t get why the kings would take a backup center at 13 Do you not see how heavily you contradict yourself lol. McCain for Okc would be a steal. Not sure how much longer Giddey is on the team anyway
@nikkosimic1367
@nikkosimic1367 4 ай бұрын
@@jordandaher9652 First of all Ke'el ware is not projected to be a backup center, he's a pretty dang good center prospect(7 footer who can block shots rim run and shooter 3s are rare) OKC needs size and he would be projected to start at the 5 with chet at the 4... Also the kings have an allstar center playing 35 minutes, you saw the rockets just trade 3 secound rounders for steven adams, so just trade some seconds for a backup and not use the 13th pick on a guy who's gonna play like 15 minutes a game max. Nothing here is contradicting, I do like McCain but just watch OKC play any big team and you'll see that they need more size, and Ke'el would still allow them to go five out. Honestly it's more of preference here than anything.
@jordandaher9652
@jordandaher9652 4 ай бұрын
@@nikkosimic1367 well yeah the draft is all speculative but Ware for them just doesn’t make sense to me. You don’t want Chet playing the 4 because your taking away from his strengths at that point. You want him as a help defender at the rim and to be able to pull 5’s out on offense. Ware is really solid but not mobile enough to guard out on the perimeter consistently. Also okcs sets require pretty much everyone be able to handle and facilitate and that’s just not Ware’s game. If they wanna go bigger they don’t need another 5 that would just ruin the functionality of the team on both ends like Cleveland. They just need to get bigger at their forward spots ( J. Dub 6’5, Lu Dort 6’4 )

I will make a thread of opinions on some picks: 4/Hornets: I don't think they need Holland, I would prefer they look for Buzelis, he fits the team despite Grant Williams 7/memphis: nah brother, they need a pivot there, and he may be just a little tall but I prefer clingan, although if you think about trying JJJ as a pivot, it makes sense, but I don't see that he can be a pivot, I prefer clingan 12/okc: the perfect player for okc is filipowski, I saw many mocks where he fell quite a bit but still, at least I would try to lower a few picks just to get him, I think he could even be a starter in okc, and if looking for another player I would go for a 4/5 16/magic: they need an outside shot, a good shooting guard, another 4 wouldn't work for them

Why would OKC need more shooting? Arent they top 3? In 3p%
@FrankyMcPlurpants
@FrankyMcPlurpants 5 ай бұрын
You can always use more shooting - That being said, I don't see how a 6'3 rookie gets any minutes to develop or even play at all with the current OKC roster. Even if they moved Giddey, you have SGA/Dort/Joe/Wallace/Wiggins all ahead of him and at that size you can't just throw him out there with any lineup. I do like McCain a lot but his fit is hard to figure.

The head of basketball operations doesn’t work alongside not advise the GM. He is the boss of the GM. In a normal scenario (which this scenario is why Detroit won’t be able to get the best guys for this job), the head of bball operations is hired and then they hire their GM and their coach. DET made this hire to take roster and personnel decisions out of Weavers hands without firing him and having to still pay him and a new GM. Weaver no longer has any say in the roster decisions

If you ask the consensus they'd agree with you Sheldon, but I'm not the consensus on this one... Ryan Dunn has elite defense - yet he's still a fringe prospect imo. His ceiling is Thybulle. Doubt he's that. Overall I like the mock a lot, but that's my one glaring disagreement with you mock. I think my favorite pick you did was DaRon Holmes at 21. He has been slept on by many. You have given this guy some credit he deserves. Thanks for the mock draft Monday!!! Will be looking forward to more!
@bkelly625
@bkelly625 5 ай бұрын
Thybulle had 8 dunks all season in almost 1500 minutes and in general is a low volume and mediocre efficiency rim attacker and finisher. Athletically they aren’t comparable Dunn in the same 23 minutes per game Thybulle played could likely get 8 dunks in like 4-5 games and more layups and very close shots and he is capable of guarding 1-5 Thybulle is not. Overall his offense probably will not be good but it will be better than Jarred Vanderbilt and better defense

@@bkelly625 nope. Vanderbilt has somewhat of a shot sometimes at least. Dunn = none. The 2 prospects I strongly disagree with the consensus is Dunn and Bona. Bona isn't in Sheldon's mock. They both shouldn't be as high as the consensus has them at all. Not in today's game. Thybulle I was comparing as a guy that was drafted soley on his defense. He got a little better over time but is still not very great on offence. That was my point of comparison. Dunn doesn't have much offence either. He's just an elite defender. Oh yeah and he still wasn't elite enough to get past the first round of the tournament to Colorado State. I'd rather have Nique Clifford out of any prospect within that game. At least Clifford for example has potential on both ends of the floor. I don't like the idea of a guy trying to play as a big that's 6'7" either. Not a very good success rate. No matter how you cut it Dunn = none. At least he shouldn't be drafted imo.

@@norrinradd542 Vando can’t really shoot either he only does on rare occasions makes a couple and Dunn is an even better athlete than Vando and Virginia offensive scheme and coaching is not exactly the greatest at utilizing raw young player strengths. All he needs to do is develop a bit as a ball handler and it’s not like he has no shot whatsoever he made some middies and for his career 12-51 from three which is terrible but had he made 20 of those his shooting wouldn’t be seen as unworkable and a complete non factor and he would go in the lottery. He can at least play and contribute off the bench I think even if he’s not starting caliber and in this draft that could be useful in the teens through end of 1st round range depending how he looks at the combine. He does have starter upside imo tho

@@bkelly625 So he needs to work on X AND work on Y to become Z... sounds like he's a year away from being a year away from being a draftable player. It's not like this is a freshman. He's a good defensive athlete... and...??? Vanderbilt is about the bottom of the barrel type player that gets minutes. Thybulle isn't good either. Not saying Dunn can't be successful, but the chances are against him. If he pans out he learns how to shoot and dribble and pass and ends up as an NBA wing. If not he's a way undersized big in the league. A major work in progress for a first round pick. Good luck with that. Starter upside is doubtful, unless you're a tanking team towards the final months of the season.

@@uglymane1664 1. He can be surrounded with good defenders. Wemby playing behind him should mitigate some of that weakness. 2. A better offense leads to being able to set your defense more often, which also helps. 3. Nah Im sorry I don’t think you understand how to evaluate talent and don’t know the context of Cody Williams game and season. He was playing hurt a lot only 24 games and 3rd/4th option behind older established players two of who will be taken in this draft. I can see why some would say #3 is too high(2nd on my big board tho) but he’s a 6’8-6’9 athletic wing who is hyper efficient as a driver and has a promising shot and defensive versatility. Regardless of his brother he’s way better than a “late 1st/early 2nd prospect” he also grew a lot the last couple years and is in the process of adding more muscle which will help his game a ton on both ends. Both parents also were/are in the Air Force and mamba mentality is what he and his bro live by I know most ppl brush that stuff off but it has some meaning. His ceiling not as high as his bro but still star level and floor is high level role player in my opinion

They have a coin flip Monday with Portland to see who gets 3rd and 4th. They will split the actual odds but whoever loses the flip can, at worst, slide back one spot further than whoever wins. If Charlotte wouldn’t have won the game and tied they’d be 3rd w/14% odds for pick 1 and worst case falling back to 7th pick. Now that they tied they have 13.2 or 13.3% odds at number 1 and could worst case, if losing the coin flip and being jumped by 4 teams in the lottery, fall back to pick 8
