Spurs taking Donovan Clingan with the fourth overall pick in the draft will not work. Why? The Spurs experimented with playing Victor Wembanyama at power forward and Zake Collins at center in 2023-24. It did not go well. Wemby plays better at center, not power forward. Why draft Clingan, if he is not going to play at center??? You are not going to use the#4 pick to take a back-up for Wemby. At #8, why risk the pick on a player who will be coming off of an ACL injury??? Nikola Topic could miss the entire 2024-25 NBA season. The Spurs likely will take Stephon Castle or Matas Buzelis at #4. And then the best player available at #8, possibly Devin Carter, Ron Holland or Tidjane Salaun.

Clingan to the Spurs?!? I hope not -- unless it's to force Memphis to trade. Would be a weird pick it would be to have Clingan w/Castle, Dillingham, Carter, even Salaun on the board. There's actually a TON of bigs in this draft and there will surely be one available either in the 2nd round -- DaRon Holmes, Izan Almasa -- or a FA. Or even next year's draft, where the Spurs are slated to have 3 firsts. It's a good thing Parrish doesn't work for the Spurs FO; in addition to the weird fit with Clingan, he's pushing the broken-kneed Topic on the team as well, a guy who won't even play next year. Someone should tell Parrish that tanking is not the assignment for San Antonio next year; that's Washington's purview and Topic would really help with that. It should be Utah's mission as well. Cooper Flagg in Utah is almost too perfect, it would feed families, they'll probably build another temple around it. And for all the Zach Collins hate w/his up and down season, Collins shot 40% from 3 his last two months of the season, rebounding from his earlier slump. Now that he's more comfortable in his role, playing with Wemby, I expect a bounce back season from Zach on par with his 22-23 campaign where he shot 37% from 3. If Zach does that, he becomes almost invaluable to the rotation. With literally EVERY SINGLE BIG in this draft outside of Ware, the 3-ball is theoretical. Zach has done it and that skill level alone will get him minutes, keep the lane open for Wemby.

zach collins might not work. but clingan could help VW lessen defensive burden with his rim protection. to me spurs should not overthink. if they want shooting and passing take player with those at 4. i suggest dillingham.

Collins and wemby did not work because no one is running the point and Wemby is pretty much new to NBA that time. Clingan is the safest pick of all in this draft. He will play in NBA for a long time barring injuries

while they don’t need clingan, topic and knecht are players they also don’t need💀 topic is probably the best pick and roll player in the draft, but that’s about it, other prospects have better upside at everything else, he’s not too great of a defender despite his size, and he might be injury prone, if the spurs want a PG, they’ll target dillingham or castle. as for dalton knecht, he’s a player who wants to go to a ready team and the spurs are not that yet. he thrives on success and somewhat rightfully so because he is an older prospect. if the spurs keep 8 and want a wing, they’d be better off targetting names like ron holland, matas buzelis, cody williams or tidjane salaun.

I think Clingan will be similar to K Love. He’s taller and more of a traditional big, but he’s great at pick and pops and passing from the key. I can see him being that caliber at least. Maybe not a superstar, but all star level

I'm highest on Devin Carter and Knecht the most. I predict that two players that fall outside of the top 10 will be among top 5 players from this draft. Nikola Topic is the player I'm most unsure about, I think he could be an all star and a no.3 on a championship team or playing in Europe within 5 seasons. A lot of it depends on his health and what team drafts him. I'd be more confident if Spurs got him at #8.
