I'm a Tyvek user. You can hem it with spray glue, then punch grommets into the corners, attach guylines with line locks and mini carabiner on the outside end of guyline. So in addition to using it as a tent ground sheet, I can use it as a sit pad, and even string it up as a shade tarp. Wash it twice on delicate cycle before anything though!

Thanks for the tips!

Polycro shreds in days on the PCT for me. Thanks for the Tyvek info.

Very thorough Chap, your a man who likes detail. I’m not sure Road Runner is going to let you off easy on wearing the women’s clothes though.😏

Looks good. A couple of things I might have missed or were not listed. Sun Gloves? Maybe your shirt selves will be long enough do the trick. Sun Screen? Skin cancer is real. Does your pack need to be seam sealed? It helps a lot. You indicated that you are now more dependent on it being water resistant. I like the tyvek idea. Looked like your rain gear was in individual stuff sacks. Could you do without the stuff sacks? Good Luck on your hike. ~S

Not using Sun gloves. Will have Sun screen. Seems are sealed and I have a compactor bag. I’ve used the same rain suit for over 3,000 miles, it is extremely light and I’ll continue using the storage bags - I’m not a gram-weenie!

Looking tight on your gear… 👍🏻 it’ll be nice having the backup Nitecore with your KMS box as the colder weather is tough on batteries. I’m still recommending an umbrella 😎 - Jiffy Pop

I’m not trying to look like Mary Poppins! 😂 I can always get one on trail if I feel like it is needed.

I have the same OR hat with sun shade. I find on hot days that having the drape from the hat is cooler than having the hood from my sun-hoodie up.

Nice review, I like how you give brand names and sizes, it's helpful when I am testing out gear. I am curious on cheap Chinese brand of boxers.
@lilchaphikes4 ай бұрын
Happy it was helpful! It looks like the brand is Neiku.

We just texted this morning, but came across your PCT gear video organically right now! Like your sun hoody (never heard of that one!). Love the O76 buff! When do you and Roadrunner start? - Chica

Great video! Thank you for sharing! I'm enjoying watching your PCT thru hike! What model of knife do you have? I love Gerber knives but mine is so heavy and so is my fixed blade.
@lilchaphikesАй бұрын
Just a tiny Swiss Army knife
@christieanderson5088Ай бұрын
@@lilchaphikes what model in this video? You had mentioned a small Gerber I thought? I also have the tiny swiss army one and I like it for the tweezers and weight for sure!
@lilchaphikesАй бұрын
@@christieanderson5088I do have a really light Gerber, but not with me on this hike. I’m not sure what model it is.

I liked this gear video because you told the reasons why you carry. Only concern i would have is the tent w/o a zipper because of the winds on PCT. I do not have experience w/ the duplex...i would trust it wouls stay shut. Dixie had a heck of time on Iceland's wind storm
@lilchaphikes3 ай бұрын
The Duplex does well in high winds. I thru hiked the AT with the same tent.
@RedCatt4233 ай бұрын
@@lilchaphikes should have been clear --the vestibule without zippers would make me concerned with high winds and side way storms. I want to stay dry.
@lilchaphikes3 ай бұрын
While they don’t zip, the doors on one side overlap the other. There are tabs on the end you’re supposed to pitch into the wind. The design does a good job keeping wind and rain out.

Excellent video! However.........please, please, please use sunscreen every day. In addition to the obvious, it protects against WIND. The top of your head, face and neck. Please add this. Just care about you and love your hikes! Did you mention your hiking sticks???
@lilchaphikes4 ай бұрын
I’ll have sunscreen.

Great video, thanks for sharing. Question: how do you manager air travel with the knife and nail clipper etc? Do you check in your pack as luggage? Do you put it inside something for protection? Or how is the logistic for air traveling with the pack? I have been asking this question to so many hikers and nobody ever gives me an answer and there’s no videos about it out there… I will appreciate any info regarding this. Thank you.

I have only flown with my pack once - home from Maine after finishing the AT. I put my pack and trekking poles inside a larger IKEA bag and had no issues. Place inside another bag because airlines don’t cover damage to the exterior bag, only the contents m. I plan to use some plastic wrap around my pack for added protection this time and still place inside a larger duffle bag.
