If I had a Ranger in the group that I DM, I would Homebrew a Magic Item that give Relentless Hunter (Taking damage can’t break your Concentration on Hunter’s Mark) if you don't have it or Hunters mark without Concentration if you have Relentless Hunter ... of course only if the Player used Hunters mark.
@Snow_Econ2 ай бұрын
You're almost always better off attacking with your bonus action rather than casting HM anyway or using your concentration on a better spell. Having so many features reliant on HM is what makes the 2024 ranger kinda suck. The build tries forcing you to use something that is rarely the best use of resources.
@bernatgarcia63482 ай бұрын
At my table the homebrew I do with the ranger is: You can concentrate in two spells as long as one of them is Hunter's Mark. That way HM concentration can still be broken at lower levels, you still benefit from the 13th level feature, and don't have to choose between HM and another concentration spell.
@DrgnDrake2 ай бұрын
I've heard this suggested fix before and I think it's fantastic. I'd probably add it as a lvl 5 feature (so you get it the same time as lvl 2 spells which have some nice concentration spells) Honestly, I think I'd also allow Rangers to mark a new foe as part of their attack action instead of needing a bonus action to move it. A vengeance pally can move their enmity with no action, so I don't see why a Ranger can't move their hunter's mark the same. Makes that initial bonus action cost hurt a lot less.

The Fey Wanderer can actually be a bit of a powerhouse if built towards skills. Having your Wisdom overlap with Charisma means that the following skills are all essentially Wisdom skills: Animal Handling, Insight, Medicine, Perception, Survival, Deception, Intimidation, Performance, and Persuasion. Add to that the Dexterity skills that you're going to be good at due to being a Ranger and wanting Dex, you're going to be good a pretty much every impactful skill besides Investigation. You'll start with 5 impactful skill trainings (probably 6 based on species or up to 8-9 if taking the Skilled Origin Feat), gain an Expertise at 2, and gain an extra one at Level 3 from Fey Wanderer. At 4 or 8 you can get a second expertise with a feat if you want and then at 9 gain two more expertise. This gives you almost as many expertise and skills as a Rogue, while allowing you to triple-up on Dex, Wis, and Cha abilities where a Rogue usually has to pick only one of Int, Wis, or Cha after Dex. The only thing the a Fey Wanderer is missing is the Rogue's Reliable Talent which is insanely strong. After you hit 9th level with the Fey Wanderer you might also want to venture into Rogue or Fighter for more skill potency. Rogue gives more expertise and some backstab. While Battlemaster Fighter gives more durability, the ability to add Second Wind to all skill, the ability to add superiority dice to key selected skills, a second fighting style for versatility, a third weapon mastery (oh, to have mastery in a ranged weapon and two melee weapons, the Ranger's dream), and just straight up Action Surge. If going to 16th level, the Rogue multiclass is probably better because you get the aforementioned Reliable Talent. But from 11-15th level, the Fey Wanderer/Battlemaster seems like a skills powerhouse with lots of durability and flexibility.

@ sadly as the DM I really didn’t have any advice. It’s hard because my paladin and fighter are both super happy about having easy advantage thanks to prone, and the warlock is going blade so he is happy as well, but it screws the rogue. I usually just had plenty of enemies that way there is always someone the rogue could still shoot that wasn’t prone but in boss fights or fights with just a couple enemies the rogue was useless for damage. It is an inherent issue with rogue, without sneak attack they have the same damage as a level 1 fighter basically. The issue is that disadvantage has become more common. I also use a fair amount of spellcasters, but if I use Blur, or invisibility or greater invisibility, or god forbid I fear the rogue I as the DM feel bad because now the rogue is basically useless in the fight even as melee. I basically just gave him a borderline broken weapon so that he can still feel relevant. It’s not hard to solve but he said he hated the fact I had to give him what he considered a Deux ex Machina weapon just to match the rest of the party who don’t have anything better than a single flametongue right now. If you have a solution I would love to hear it. Asking the paladin and fighter to handicap themselves is ridiculous, but the only thing I can think of is that ranged rogue can only really function in a party that never uses topple or other prone abilities which is kind of restrictive. Ranger playing at range is not much better, without sharp shooter or gloom stalker bonus attack it is just kind of bad damage wise. Everyone talks about duel wielding and yeah that’s great, but damn did archers get screwed in this. Even worse when warlock wants to use stuff like darkness and Hadar, because he and paladin can see in magic darkness thanks to item and invocation, and fighter will just let the role be neutral since once prone advantage and disadvantage cancel out, but again rogue is screwed. It sucks because we have all played together before for a while and have great chemistry with people wanting to use combos but rogue especially is super limiting in that regard. Ranger at least gets permanent advantage on HM target eventually so at least prone won’t effect them at range I guess.

So since I couldn't keep them alive I would deal less damage overall if I wasted a turn summoning them as they would often only get to attack once before dying.

Ranger has been my favorite since 3.5 days. I nixed the animal companion for the PHB 2 feature. I enjoy the mix of features and skills. Definitely a fan of the archer playstyle. I don't like the extra bookwork in dealing with a secondary HP pool. It can be a bit much during stressful combats.

Ranger Class Features Fix Level 9: - Add Relentless Hunter here; change language to: “When you cast Hunter’s Mark with a use of Favored Foe, it no longer requires concentration for that casting.” - Keep Expertise Level 13: - Add Precise Hunter here Level 17: - Add new feature, Apex Predator. Language: “The damage dice of your Hunter’s Mark increases to 2d6, rather than 1d6. It also no longer requires a Bonus Action to move the mark to a new creature.” Level 20: - Change Foe Slayer language to: You add your Wisdom modifier to the attack roll and damage roll of an attack you make against the creature currently marked by your Hunter’s Mark.

this could fix it I have no idea why they did it the way they did

And I’d add this rider to Favored Foe at level 1: When you roll initiative, you can cast Hunter’s Mark in this way as part of your initiative roll before the start of your turn.

Dont like the lv17 feature because you can use a ranger with shillellagh and magic stine, which is already using wisdom to attack and stats can double-stack in raw, which is why i hated that feature Want an actually 'foe slayer' feature that is a lv17 feature? Foe slayer At lv17, Whenever you hit a cresture marked with HM, you can transform the hit into a critical hut for damage purposses. You cannot use this feature more than once per turn and can use it a number of times equal to your wisdom modifier before needing a long rest There, now is an actual lv17 feature, and if somebody says 'its too strong 🥴" i will remember them that at that level the spellcasters can bend reality and summon literal demins and meteors and destroy cities, so dealing double damage once per turn in one attack isnt gonna break the game

Ranger has traditionally been seen as weak in 5e and The Gloomstalker has been the solution to this or standout. I think conceptually Ranger is a very good idea, but the features are not strong and I think the class could use even more ribbon features and out of combat features for role playing personally.

This is an interesting change, but deft explorer is actually the ONLY way to have an exotic language in the 2024 players handbook. On one hand, I like that characters dont randomly know infernal because "I needed to pick another language." On the other hand, I think there should be a couple other ways to learn rare languages. I'm sure a lot of dms will not notice this change or ignore it. I think most dms will allow certain characters to know them or let it be a downtime activity because it's a little dumb there's no "rules as written" way for a Tiefling Warlock with a Devilish patron to know infernal besides taking ranger levels. Please correct me if anyone finds a rule I missed.

Have they ever done a video like this for the Drakenhiem ranger subclasses?
@larrediogoАй бұрын
Hey, honest question, during the video i thought about this: How would the damage of a ranger who cast hunter's mark as a bonus action without spending a spell slot and in his action, cast magic missiles be calculated? 1D4 + 1D6 + 1 for each missile? I had never actually thought of that, not even in previous versions... this kind of idea opens the door for a really fun wizard/ranger multiclass. There are many damage spells witth multihit and this souds very fun.

Aragorn, Legolas, Lara Croft, Katniss Everdeen, or others like Geralt of Rivia or Link from Zelda are all quintessential rangers. Yet, *none* of them have an animal companion. I don't understand this fixation with putting the Beastmaster in Ranger, and especially not those saying the Beast should be part of the main class. It just isn't there.
@Franco13952 ай бұрын
Drizzt had that panther. I kinda remember it being a figurine though. Correct me if I’m misremembering
@armphidiic26092 ай бұрын
Drizzr is exactly why, though he wouldn't be a Beastmaster Ranger.
@Melianedeluxe2 ай бұрын
While I agree that being a ranger doesn’t necessarily mean having an animal companion, I don’t see the problem of having the beast master as a ranger subclass. DnD is set in its own universe , I don’t see why they would have to follow the same ranger archetypes, especially when half of these characters didn’t even exist when the ranger was introduced in DnD. Having a whole class for beast master seems cumbersome too…
@Wintermute9092 ай бұрын
Yeah it seems the Drizzt influence overpowered all of those archetypes. Also his dual wielding overpowered the bow archetype. While I like Drizzt, it's a bit odd that a single, modern, fictional character outweighed millennia old mythology.

I'm surprised I don't see many people looking at using hvy xbow and long bow mastery with beast master. All things optimal without using a spell you can reduce a standard 30 move creature to 20 movement if they take a dash. (30 - 10 movement long bow) 20 movement, prone from beast, 10 to stand back up, push from heavy, -10 position, if they take dash they only get 20.

Some Rangers were raised in the wild, by someone or something, and as an alternative origin the military is a great example. Some people have to survive the unsettled wilderness as outcasts or a diaspora or settlers and they develop their skills in a variety of circumstances. Really, a Ranger can have many different origins and some could be unlikely or unique.

The reality of the hunt is much more raw, against beast such as bears you only have one shot, make it worth" and then proceed to eat dirt to see if his on the right track
