I just realised something and it made me bawl my eyes out. Death also means rebirth, a new beginning. Lilia was able to fill in all of the gaps, and she will finally be able to live her life from the beginning, embracing her fate. Also, as Nerdy pointed out, she doesn't see the future, she bounces around through time. So, her last words to Agatha, "when she says coward, hit the deck", means she was there at some point in the future. So she can't die here. She has to live long enough to see the event she predicted.

I, too, *love* the concept of divination as time-jumping. In fact, I'm *in love* with the way this series keeps concretizing witchy concepts that are usually super abstract. Curses? They're not just "I say a spell and now you have bad luck," they're "I summon a physical demon to follow you and torment you." Divination isn't just "abstract knowledge of the future", it's "memories of the future because I'm time-traveling and I've already been there". Potions and ghosts... have always been pretty concrete, so they didn't need to do much with those. I. Love. This. Show. And especially this episode.

My take on the ending is that when she dies, she travels back to her young self, now knowing how she dies and why she dies and it’s why she’s smiling and content and basically since she time travels, time is not what we think it is, and for her, she can finally accept death and accept her powers. What you mentioned about her being at the end of her career and that enhancing her performance is what I love about this show. The complaints about a lack of women on TV and in movies isn’t problematic just because of the lack of representation in numbers. It’s because those women, or woman, can only represent one experience. By having a mostly female cast we got to see the range of having women of different ages, races, and archetypes. It’s so rich and it’s sad that it’s something we rarely get to see.

This show has been my sleeper hit of the year, I really wasn’t expecting much from Marvel and honestly forgot about the show until the reactions started posting. But like you two said, this is what happens when you have a team (coven) who has the time to work and re-work the script to perfection. This episode in particular was immaculately executed with the first shot being the last shot, reflecting Lilia’s journey, and all of the time jumps. Plus I’m really happy that Lilia shared her close connection with Jen, most other shows would’ve reserved the character growth moments for one of the leads, but this elevated both secondary characters so they weren’t just dead weight being dragged along for comedic relief. Side note: but talking about Patti Lupone having the opportunity to be in a Marvel show, getting a character she could really sink her teeth into, defying the trends that shelve older women (age +40). I really love seeing her, Leslie Uggams in Deadpool and Fallout, or Betty White (before she passed). It’s delightful seeing them pop up in unexpected media, they have so much talent and shows like Agatha help cement their legacy for the younger generations.

By the rules of television, we both did not see Lillia die, or hear a Sword-Skewer sound. I bring this up because her power seems to be that she's untethered from time, experiencing moments out of order, but still moments she experiences. She's not psychic, she's just seeing what she see's in the future, so when Lillia says to Agatha "When she calls you a coward hit the deck" like, presumably, Lillia in some form had to be there to witness that to give Agatha that warning. Maybe she'll be a ghost, or Rio (Death) summons her back for some purpose in the finale to mess with Agatha, Billy, and Jen.

To add to your observation, I believe this was her arc to becoming the actual Queen of Cups on the tarot card. On her first lesson her centuries old self returned pretty defeated near the end of her life because of not being able to stop death. All of the Tarot cards + the characters shown as the Tarot cards was beautiful done too. 😍 Death means rebirth as well, so when we see Lilia choosing to fall and then we see her as a young lady at the beginning of her journey she seemed so much more determined and happy because she wasn't afraid of her power anymore and her life was put together without her jumping around on her own timeline. I started to tear up and cry when Lilia chose to stay behing to deal with the Salem Seven and while doing so she saved her new coven which she wasn't able to do to her original coven. Patti LuPone is an ICON and a QUEEN (of Cups). Lilia will be missed. 😭💔 The show made me care about these characters in such a short time. (A thing "The Acolyte" failed to do.) This was the Best Episode by far! And Agatha/Billy are mostly low key letting Lilia (and Jen a little) shine! I like the references to other time-is-not-linear cinema. So I've been thinking about the Lilia's readings and Cards that have been revealed. Everything is on two levels. Each card represents a character in the show - with the coven itself being a character. But the meanings of the cards represent things for Lilia herself when she is The Traveler. Her quest is to Know Herself. What's Missing is a coven. The Path Behind includes Alice the fiery protector and the lessons learned from their connection and her loss. The Path Ahead lies with her latest connection with Jen (and her untapped potential) who meets her as a sister in the craft. The Obstacle is heartbreak and grief, which is why she shut down her Sight - she saw too much death. Her Windfalls are manifestation and personal transformation. This could represent the road itself. Or, I wonder if it literally represents the card. Because that card is there, she can flip it and meet Death on her own terms. Another commenter mentioned that the sand timer is flipped as a result. What does that manifest. I am choosing to believe that Lilia manifested her own rebirth, with the self knowledge she acquired on this journey.

Did y’all watch Fall of the House of Usher? It also has time jumps that make the whole season rewarding.

Only five thuds once the tower flipped, there's still an owl and a raven. And I find it amusing that the Witch's Road has a maintenance tunnel.

It's the subway network that Mrs Hart was talking about in the second episode.
@feralart2 ай бұрын
@@DerekHartley not the subway station. The road is its own self-contained place, and it has those tunnels below the mud.

I love how it has a story to tell overall, and just hyperfocuses on telling that story. And it is just good TV! Like, feels like old school TV, not cinema in a box!

Oh man. I hate to be one of those commenters, but here I am... I absolutely love the whole "out of time" sequences. Always have. It's easy to tell by your reactions you do too. The feeling of seeing everything connect together. So now I have to recommend that you react to the 12 Monkeys TV series. I really do think you both would love it. It's four whole seasons of this type of thing. The feeling of seeing how things connect to earlier episodes/seasons is outstanding. The showrunner, Terry Matalas, has the whole story so finally crafted and weaved together. After the series he went on to do Seasons 2 & 3 of Star Trek Picard, while also dealt with time. And it's been announced that the next series he's going to work on is VisionQuest. See. It's all connected.

Watchmen and Legion set the bar REALLY high for this kind of "out of sync POV". I'm glad this episode was able to hold it's own with them.

“I /was/ falling.” She has memories after the fall.
@jonathanhibberd99832 ай бұрын
I'm not convinced that Lillia is dead. For two reasons: As you said a couple times, she's not seeing the future, she's living her life out of order. Which means when she gives Agatha the advice to "when she calls you coward, hit the floor", she was there. Which means she didn't die in that moment. Second, we see her falling in her Glinda costume, and then we see her land in her Glinda costume, not on a sword, but in front of Rio. So maybe she dies there, but not by falling on a sword.

Note: Even the road took pause to ponder whether teen is Billy Kaplan with Billy Maximoff's soul powering his body or Billy Maximoff's Soul inhabiting Billy Kaplan's Corpse. In other words, foreshadowing that he is both and it only gets more complicated from there. Chaos Magic 101.

Secret Invasion felt like it was draft number 2 of the script that was written around 'Samuel L Jackson not really wanting to do much other than sit in a chair in a room thay can CGI in around him' but this is.... this really feels like the first MCU story not impacted by 'Cowid'/'Cowid' restrictions and the ripples of the writers strike. I fully admit I was saying before this show came out "who is this for?! Marvel need to trim this fat to return to form!" ... *THIS* is that form. I love The Gay Witches Show.

We only saw 5 members of the Salem Seven die. Makes me wonder what the other 2 are bringing in the finale. Although i do think they haven't pised as much of a threat as they promised in the early episodes

so... she just basically went back to her updated, original timeline with herself, embracing her fate and acceptance of who she is from the inside out? She will meet Agatha in the future? 🤯

I wonder if Patti LuPone was told about how the lines fit together before hand, or if she only was told what was necessary for each script.
