I think its amazing. As someone who didn't have an opportunity to get any of the art books since I've been collecting and didn't really want to pay hundreds of dollars. It is something relatively inexpensive that allows me to see and appreciate all of the art from the other art books that I can't get. Yes it's a little sad some of the images are on the smaller side, but I really appreciate there being something affordable that i can appreciate the art in. and its really beautiful.

I know it’s not a lot, but thank you for your review Ochi. I’m still waiting for mine, but I can’t wait. It looks incredible, I had no idea that the Chanel works were included as well, I’m so happy to see those. Some of the sizes of the artworks do look a bit.. awkward but I still love the look. Naoko’s works is timeless and I know this will never happen but I would love to see an artbook of her non Sailor Moon manga as well.

Ochi this video was SO informative thank you so much I felt like I learned a lot! And as for the book I think it’s awesome we get to see most of her work in one place along with new art. Edit: I can’t believe she changed and edited her own work, but it’s interesting in that one photo she made sailor moons wings transparent. Maybe that’s how she saw the wings back in the day but didn’t know quite how to create it traditionally in the 90s

As someone who didn’t get into the collecting side of Sailor Moon until later in life, so missed the opportunities to have and own the original art books. This is perfect to me! I agree… there are occasions where the “blank space” could have been more effectively used.. maybe implementing some scenery elements into the white space? 🤔 but for the price point, amount of pages and how easily accessible this was/is. It’s a must grab for me and I will be hunting it down. Thank you again for such an informative video Brooke…. 💖 so interesting to hear the history of the art books to where we are at today. As others and you have mentioned, I do hope that this is the start of more future art books or possible re-prints 🤞🏻🩷

To start, love your videos! I’ve been following your various accounts for awhile now and am happy to check out your content whenever I need a sailor moon fix! I will say that I think “catalog” is an accurate term; between that “copy and paste” look, the date/item info, and the sheer amount of images, it does come off as more of a catalog than an art book to me. That said, I still 100% consider it an art book and look forward to getting myself a copy when I get the chance! (Also those Chanel images are amazing; I had never seen them before and audibly “wowed” when I did; really really cool.)

I was laughing at your comment about "smelling the merchandise;" I do the same! New book smell is great, especially high-quality paper. Thank you for sharing your review and your thoughts about Raisonne and the other artbooks. I may eventually pick up the deluxe version, but I stand by my decision to cancel my pre-order of the normal book due to the less than impressive layout. My critique of the product is directed at Kodansha and Naoko, not the fans who are excited and happy about this new release.

Honestly, I can understand the criticism from some fans but I think it’s because we wanted a new art book so bad (in the style of the 90s books) Not that I personally criticized it BUT once I fully understood that it’s a catalog and not an art book in that sense it clicked for me I can’t wait to buy Raisonne and maybe one day have the original set of the art books (& infinity & materials) 😂

I am pretty happy they came out with an affordable collection book for everyone to have the chance to have a hard copy. That said, I think they missed the boat on this one. Most of this art is used on the Mixx comics which are not hard to get hold of. Plus all of it is easy to view in high def online so if you really wanted to, you could print your own high quality full sized books. For catalog purposes, a nice addition. Because the art is smaller, not worth it if you already have any of the books or manga. SM deserves one of those nice HEAVY coffee table hard cover books for collectors to get to see the full size art. Thank you so much for reviewing the history and letting us see inside.

@ochibawolf very fair point and actually true. My niece carried around her school books on a flash drive around her neck when she was in middle school. I don't get the hate. Like, what were people expecting? We knew it was gonna have 745 pictures on 200 pages, so of course it wasn't gonna be a full page for every artwork. Sure, the layout could've been better, but I think it's fine. They did try to highlight certain images by making them bigger. It's cool to have these art works all in one place - and of course it's great that we get a new art book after all these years. I personally have the German Art Editions, which are soft cover versions of the 5 Japanese books split into 6 volumes. There was also a German hardcover release, but these are getting more and more expensive. I do have the Japanese Materials Collection too, which I still can't quite believe. But I still bought the Raisonné art book and can't wait for it to arrive.

It's pretty and I don't think it takes any value away from the older books. It's good as a catalogue and it's affordable. I think since the artwork is so small, it still leaves the door open for other editions in the future. It could be divided into 3 large hardcovers to show higher resolution artwork. I don't have any bad opinion about it because it's very nice for what it is!

It's not what I wanted, it's not what I expected, I hate the layout, I hate the font, I hate the size... but for the cost at RRP? If you are a Sailor Moon fan you should get it. Let's hope like you say that this is the start of something bigger like a re-release of the original art books. If you own the 'Eternal' version of the manga be warned... THE PICTURES ARE SIGNIFICANTLY SMALLER IN THIS ART BOOK THAN YOUR MANGA... but are you seriously gonna casually flip through your 12 volumes of manga just to see the artwork? That's where this book shines.

I was disappointed. I was happy that they included a bunch of new art, Sailor V art, and the Nakayoshi supplements - but they put way too much *tiny* art on one page for the size of the book. For the price, I would have preferred to enjoy those works in more detail. I recently bought Rumiko Takahashi's collected works which was around the same price, it was HARDCOVER and the art was full page. No comparison.
