I saw your post on the "Jeep CJ5" Facebook group and glad you shared it! I "liked and "subscribed." 😉 I recently purchased a 62 CJ5 (one month ago today, actually). From what I can tell, the engine and transmission in mine are still original and I just got it to fire up for the first time and stay running for a few seconds last night. I had just dumped a little gas down the carb, so I knew it wouldn't run for much longer than that, but it gives me hope! Thinking about picking up a new fuel filter and dumping a couple gallons in the tank today and see if I can keep it running for a bit longer. That'll also be a good test for the tank and fuel pump. I, too, am an IT guy by day, and this is my first foray into any type of automotive restoration; thank god for KZbin! My CJ also sat for ~10 years before I bought it, and the guy who previously owned it passed away, so I have zero information on any work that's been done to it. I guess that's part of the adventure! 😊

If you want to find the engine tag it's on the same side as the distributor and to the left. I hope you enjoy the build as much as I have, it truly allowed me to free myself from the stress of IT and sending countless to work from home. If you want to reach out my email addy is jeffcarter@nctc.com. I would be glad to talk to you.

Mines a 2018 and I’ve put a ton of work into it, but I cannot even imagine the amount of work involved in resurrecting a rig as seasoned as this. Definitely a labor of love. We also have an 07 that we rebuilt with a Jasper engine and transmission, we’ve been very satisfied after they took care of the one issue that we did have with the transmission. Jeep life, enjoyed seeing the progression, thanks for sharing.

Thank you! I researched Jasper and saw they had only 3% failure rate but customer satisfaction was quite high. Glad to hear your Jasper story was a good too! The build on him has been a labor of love for 3.5 years. He's a keeper. :)
