Man... watching this kind of videos just reminds me how many under-the-radar book series are out there, I need to catch up lol Great video! Also speaking of duologies with Divine Rivals, I really recommend the Sparrow and Children of God duology by Mary Doria Russell, great stuff! Also, get a hold of the Malazan power point, it's really helpful when starting the series

Thanks so much, I’m always happy to talk about books and series that you may not hear about all the time! 😄 also I’ll definitely add the Sparrow duology to my goodreads!

Exciting updates, you made some nice progress!! I feel like once you finish First Law and RotE, you are just perpetually in a state of resisting the urge to reread those series lol. Hope you have fun with all the series that you are planning to take on in the upcoming quarter. Ben better hurry up, because I need to hear your thoughts on Dandelion Dynasty so bad hahah. Happy reading 🥰
@GraceDionneReads6 ай бұрын
Hahaha I completely agree!! I’m just imagining how I could be reading Stormlight, Malazan and Dandelion Dynasty at the same time later this year and wow 🫣

You must have a great memory! I can’t juggle so many series all at once. I usually limit myself to 3 or 4 open-ended series except for ones I don’t plan to finish (which is rare!). I’m almost done with book 3 of James Islington’s trilogy (Licanius). I only have the epilogue left to read, but so far I’m +/- on whether you’d enjoy finishing this one. Its strengths are in building mystery and tackling topics surrounding ethics, religion, and free will. I really liked how Mistborn era 2 played out. If you like Sanderson’s comedy and don’t mind the steampunk fantasy setting, I think you’d enjoy this one a lot. You might appreciate it more than me, in fact, given you’ve read Stormlight (I haven’t yet but will start this summer so I’m caught up when book 5 drops). Then again, sounds like you have enough Sanderson on your agenda this year, so maybe finishing era 2 can be a goal for 2025!

I definitely need a refresher of my memory sometimes when it comes to the finer details, but overall plot points are usually easier to recall ☺️ I do love a good discussion on ethics and religion, especially in fantasy where there is so much leeway to discuss it in the way the author wants!

@@GraceDionneReads Follow-up: after finishing the epilogue of the final book in the series, I can more heartily recommend the Licanius trilogy. It has its strengths and weaknesses, but a page turner overall, especially if you like mysteries and reveals.

That is . . . a bunch of series. Now you have me wondering how many ongoing series I'm reading, ha. Hope you get to reading Snuff soon, it's pretty great!
@GraceDionneReads6 ай бұрын
It is a big old number of series 😂 the nice thing about Snuff is that it will be a relatively quick and fun read as well!

I'm in the middle of so many of these series as well! Definitely thinking about rereading Fireborne before continuing on with the series.
@GraceDionneReads6 ай бұрын
Yes relatable! And Fireborne was so good, so I don’t want to forget the nuances that were there

I loved the Broken Earth trilogy, I read the 3 books back to back. I hope you'll like Gardens of the Moon. I really liked it a lot and would like to continue the series but it's quite a commitment, you don't rush through these books, you need to take your time to really enjoy them.
@GraceDionneReads6 ай бұрын
I really enjoyed Gardens of the Moon! I’m not entirely sure what my plan is but I think one Malazan book every 2 months is reasonable, so I’m definitely not in a rush ☺️

Wow, I don't feel as bad now seeing how many series you've got ongoing 😅 Gotta love Gentleman B@st@rd and Age of Madness. Anyone who doesn't has questionable taste. Malazan 🤘 Don't worry about how long it could take to finish, assuming you like it, it took me around 2 years. I found them super addicting to read. Its currently my favourite completed Fantasy series but RotE could give it a run for its money depending on how that ultimately turns out Wall of Storms is AMAZING. One of my favourite books of all-time now. My series in progress: *Fantasy* Kithamar (mostly a re-read) - 1 book to be re-read | last book to be released Realm of the Elderlings / Robin Hobb - 1 book in progress / 7 books left after that *Grimdark Fantasy* Second Apocalypse / R Scott Bakker (re-read) - 3 books left to be re-read *Historical-Fiction* The Last Kingdom / Bernard Cornwell - 10 books left. - I'm in no rush to get back to this series anytime soon. I really loved the show, so I'm giving myself more of a distance to give the books a fairer chance. Cornwell hasn't been as much of a hit with me as I expected after loving Warlord Chronicles, because I really hated the Grail Quest trilogy. I know he wrote a 4th eventually but hell will freeze over before i read it haha *Silkpunk* Dandelion Dynasty / Ken Liu - 1 book left. *Western* Lonsome Dove Quartet / Larry McMurtry - 3 books left. I technically started a re-read of First Law, but I'm doing it in chronological order with the short stories as well, I've read 2 of the 5 or 6 stories that happen before Blade Itself.

I had no idea that Lonesome Dove was a series!!
@thatsci-firogue6 ай бұрын
@@GraceDionneReads Lonesome Dove really does work well as a standalone. In publication order its first in the series but chronologically its third.

What kind of stupid guy should have brought the Ken Liu books with him last time he visited but instead brought 35 other books and forgot them? Couldn't be me

There will be at least another book in Realm of the Elderlings about Bee. Hopefully, it's a trilogy.

I did see that! Hobb says she writes slowly these days though, so I’ll be patient until we see that ☺️

Can the councillor be read as a stand alone?
@GraceDionneReads6 ай бұрын
Hmm that’s a tough one, in a way yes, because there’s a storyline that gets wrapped up and you can have satisfaction with that, but there are definitely some threads left open for a future installment! I still really enjoyed it knowing that it’s a standalone for now, so I would still recommend it ☺️

I do think reading indian lake within the same year or two is probably good just to keep track of proofrock’s lore although each story is a contained enough thought its probably not as required but I enjoyed reading the entire thing over the course of 6 months!
@GraceDionneReads6 ай бұрын
That’s good to know!! I definitely think I’ll make it a goal to re-read the first book once the finale is out in paperback and go from there
