Update: Thank you for all your kind comments, and confirming the vintage sewing machine is a Singer 201. I decided to keep it and work on it over time :)

I have this same sewing machine and cabinet. My 201 is from 1936 and was in very good shape when I bought it at an estate sale. I had it cleaned, oiled, and rewired to bring electrical up to date. The machine is known as the Rolls-Royce of sewing machines for good reason. Once you've used it you'll want to keep it. The stitches are beautiful; consistently spaced, smooth, and reliable. The machine is a work horse and even though I have other modern machines, this is my go-to for straight stitching - always. Singer has a website that will tell you the year and location that your sewing machine was manufactured, using the serial number. The cabinet appears to be a 1948 Singer International Sewing Machine Cabinet/Desk, also easy to research. Enjoy!

Your space is very cute and inviting. I sure hope you can get your 201 up and running. There is a page on here called Archaic Archane. Her tutorial on the vintage tension unit on these machines is very informative. You can also go to central Michigan sewing supply for parts you might need. My 201, Dottie, is my main stitcher, and I'd be lost without her!

This is my favorite. I love your organizational skills! I will look up that cutting table but my small space is all vintage decor so I will debate. Lol. Great job! Thanks

Your vintage cabinet & machine looks almost exactly like my grandmother’s! 😮 I couldn’t believe it. The only difference are the drawers down the right side - her drawers are part of the curved design, not behind a side panel like yours. It’s still the original wood which I’m looking forward to refreshing. I brought it with me when we moved to a country that has a 220v electric system 28 years ago … I’m afraid what an electric step down transformer might do to it.😢 So, I just admire mine & think of my grandma sewing on it long ago. 😊

Hello, just came across this channel. LOVE the cute little house, I'm getting cottage vibes. It would look lovely with plants framing the sides of the house with cozy outdoor seating to embroider on a nice day and drink tea. Love your vintage sewing machine. I have recently purchased one myself (a Singer 500a in a Queen Ann Table). I'm soo excited to bring it back to life. I'm sure some of these lovely commenters would be more than willing to give tips and advice to get you started. There are also lots of youtube videos that can help you as well. A few examples are "Sewing Machine Rehab" and "Old Sewing Machines", to name a few. :)

Que espaço lindo!!! Adorei a máquina antiga, igual da minha avó. Recentemente herdamos a máquina dela, eu e minha irmã! Fiquei com a máquina, porque eu costuro patchwork e ela como não sabe costurar ficou com a mesa 😊 assim as duas tem a lembrança dela❤

Hello from the UK, I do all my piecing, quilting and dressmaking on a singer 201 treadle. I have a modern electric machine but the 201 is unbeatable in terms of straight stitch quality (in my opinion). The 201 is also very quiet making my sewing a very contemplative process. When I purchased my machine I did a deep clean and oil (Serious quantities of old thread!) replaced the old leather drive belt and have never had a problem. My log cabin blocks (11 pieces) finish at 3 inches and the quilts are usually queen/king sized. Good luck with your renovation, i hope you will be as pleased with your electric 201 as I am with my human powered version.

The 201, 101, 15-91 all have potted motors and more times than not have to be re-wired from the motor out. I buy my rewiring kits from eBay and Etsy. They come with everything you will need to do it. I’ve done six I think. There are many KZbin videos and bloggers as well as Facebook groups dedicated to the singer 201 specifically as well as how to re-wire potted motors. You didn’t mess up your machine. It just needs to be rewired.

@@penny_lane_studios you’re welcome. I hope you can get it running, It’s a beautiful machine! I have ASD and when I’m interested in some thing, I like to know every single detail down to the size of the screws and where it was built how to take it apart and put it back together and all that nonsense. Her cabinet is absolutely lovely! I’m not a purist, I paint them and make them pretty too 😍

That is definitely a singer 201. Looks to be missing the tension unit. It’s a beautiful vintage sewing machine ❤
@penny_lane_studios7 ай бұрын
Yes it is missing tension, and the stitch length regulator needs work as well as other parts. Main concern is the electrical wiring needs a little tweaking.
@sparkyal437 ай бұрын
The Singer 201 is the best straight stitcher. I think even better than the newer machines. It is easy to retire and replace the tension dial.
