It is disappointing that the service still has to deal with budget shortfalls when it provides so much to the public and the planet yet the DoD continues to be showered with what seems to be unlimited finances.

We need more humanitarians in our workforce. A humanitarian approach within our organization and to all our missions. We have been so focused on STEM that we forgot our intricacies.

First one I’ve seen in a while to not talk about “super base Charleston” But all I got was a history refresher, Hawaii and a couple saves that made the news, couple boats launched, PSC’s coming in …. TBD, some new policy of reporting, some expedited training program for an avg of 30 something percent improvement (our schools ain’t that long so maybe a couple weeks shorter?) and a grazing of recruiting. Was hoping to hear more solutions

It is a continuing National disgrace that the USCG is short of funds. The USCG was short of funds to maintain and repair anything while I was on active duty many decades late 70s and early 80s. I was in the USCGR as an officer. In 1992 I was placed in the volunteer training unit ( inactive reserve). I had 14 years and 6 months but needed 15 to qualify for early retirement. The Commandant took the unprotected reserve budget and cut the active reserve in half, from around 13,500 to under 7,000. I was given a cash settlement. It was a stupid decision to destroy the Coast Guard Reserve. Adm. Fagan is the first Commandant to realistically face the perennial budget problems the Coast Guard as an organization faces. Semper Paratus Admiral Fagan.

14 USC 3706: Temporary members of the Reserve; eligibility and compensation This law could help with the workforce shortage as it did back in the 1940's. Pick out a quarter of the 20K+ Aux members to address the shortage. A path for members with qualifications would be low training cost, authorizes military leave from employers, and enables members to dedicate more time for a greater contribution to the country.

As a 10 year active duty USCG member, I feel this was an outstanding State of the Coast Guard address. Admiral did a fantastic job of displaying the great work we do in the USCG while also pleading for additional funding and support, which I can assure you we need. Highlighting workforce shortage and how we are trying to combat this issue is critical. I honestly feel this was very genuine and honest and I can Appericate that! BZ ma’am! 🙏🏻🇺🇸

Coast Guard Policy allows us to choose to wear the entire ribbon rack or only wear the top three. Keeps things a bit easier to manage.

The AUX is a fantastic opportunity, you can most definitely serve on a cutter, most likely not as a majority of your dedicated time, but on orders sure. We had one on the 87 ft patrol boat I was a part of who obtained his Cuttermens pin. 12th in USCG history. It 100% takes more dedication, perseverance and time, but is well worth it!! Good luck!!
@carlkennedy44427 ай бұрын
If you’re an emt and firemen you can do both active duty. Aux typically have retired military members in it.
