I tried this bike at the dealership. Absolutely loved it. It was a hoot to drive and I would really like one. But I'm afraid my license would be revoked in a jiffy. Cuz it encourages hooligan riding and the regular speed limits feel like they should all be at least double of what they are. Need to move to Germany to have one. But I'm surprised not more people are talking about it and considering it when buying a new bike. So many go automatically towards BMW GS, but for many of those buyers, this would be a better bike for them.

I bought a heavily discounted 23 Tiger 1200 GT Explorer back in March for just over 19k out the door & the list of standard features from Triumph is absolutely fantastic. I was eye’n these & the new Africa Twin adventure sports & it was just to hard to pass up the deal I got on my Tiger. First time owning a Triumph in 20+ yrs of riding & I must say it is a fantastic bike. With all that said…yes I agree with you that I’d wait on the price to drop some. No ctr stand & no heated grips as standard for a bike that’s 18+ is a miss I feel, as is the wind screen not being adjustable on the go

It's the fit and finish. It's like people who buy luxury cars talk about "panel gaps" and how quiet it is when you close the doors. Personally, I love my kawasaki and don't care about a lacquered finish on the tops of the Allen key bolts or the flimsiness of the chain guard. I care about how it rides, not how it looks in an immaculate motor carriage parked next to a Bentley.

I worked at a Suzuki dealership about 15 years ago. New bikes would arrive with the mild steel downpipes and fasteners covered in corrosion. Engines and transmission were largely OK but bolted on bits had a habit of falling off and you could see corners cut everywhere. They were known for producing cheap, honest bikes. In fact that was our clientele - people who could not afford (or didn’t want to pay) the price for more “premium” brands. They’ve since upped their game (and their prices), mainly because there was no profit in heavily discounted (already) cheap bikes, but the stigma of being cheap bikes seems to follow them around. Like all manufacturers, they realised the gullible public will pay car money for “premium” features. At least the 800 series still represents good value for money AND good quality. This bike is a bit Frankenstein to me - either market the GT better or release a proper adv bike (IMHO the V Strom 1000 misses the mark by quite a margin).

@MV-XD2

That was because until relatively recently they were mechanically extremely simple. You’d be lucky to find ABS, let alone anything more fancy. And as I mentioned the engine and transmission were pretty bulletproof, as was the paint (oil based). Sadly the grade of metal and plastics, whilst not dangerous, was generally poorer than most other brands. I must have seen more than a thousand Suzukis in my time there and I saw some horror stories. Things got better with the revised V Strom 650 around 2012. That being said I always had a soft spot for them. My GSX1250 had monstrous torque and never had a false neutral. 3,700 mile service intervals and a no link chain (a new chain meant removing the swingarm) plus the slightly vague handling were not so good 😂

Regarding pricing, in the Netherlands comparing base prices of the Suzuki to the BMW would see a massive 24,6% difference. And then the BMW has nothing on it, start adding the basics that the Suzuki has as stock and you would soon breach 30% difference in price. That's allot!

Cant understand the price difference in the different regions. The GX is available in the UK with panniers for £14500....even £13200 without luggage. It's brilliant, in particular the gearbox and quickshifter, but the lack of centre stand, heated grips and a screen that's the size of a postage stamp that is not adjustable on the move or without an appropriate allen key or similar is a little lacking for the price. If they include these things for the UK price then it's a good buy. I priced up a centre stand and it was £470. ( Crazy money).. Its a brilliant ride but the Tracer 9 Gt or GT+ is a much better proposition which includes all of these things and more for less money....😉👍

I have ridden both the Suzuki and Yamaha 9 GT+, and the Yamaha offers a superior package. It includes adaptive cruise control, brakes linked to the suspension in addition to being linked brakes, a third-generation quick shifter, and an engine with substantial mid-range torque. One downside of the Suzuki is its noticeable vibrations, wind noise, and the need for high revs to showcase its performance.

Personally the look of the Yamaha is so atrocious I could not hand over real money for it. Also since when did adaptive cruise control become a selling point on a sports touring bike? Maybe buy an armchair cruiser or a trike.

Dear Scott congratulations for your complete and unbiased reviews. In my country, S1000XR base price is € 20.5K, while GSX-S1000GX is € 18K. If you spec both bikes at exactly the same trim level (i.e. all the electronics: quick shifter, electronic suspensions, cruise control, centre stand, heated grips, side cases, handguards, and comfy seat) then the offers that I have right now is € 23.9 K for the S1000XR and € 19.2 K for the GSX-S1000GX. Given this price difference of € 4.7 K I would like to kindly ask if: S1000XR worth the premium of additional € 4.7 K (i.e. 24,5% more expensive) in comparison with GSX-S1000GX ? My impression is that if BMW could charge you even for the air of your tires they would happily do it.

Here it's just 360 to add making a total cost of 19,640. We can pick and choose what we want. You must be in the States, to have to get a package like that, I hated that when picking and choosing my Honda ST1100, Blackbird, VFR800 all had to have a "package" getting stuff I didn't want but if you want just one thing, you have to get all if it. Great review as always. Love how the bike feels on the showroom floor - great ergos for me, great styling, great color - but I struggle with the value proposition as well. And why Suzuki doesn't bother even offering as optional a color matched top case blows my mind. In their reveal, they said the bke was only designed for soft luggage behind the passenger seat. So that likely means the sub-frame can't even handle an aftermarket solution. Do they even do customer research and actually talk to sport touring customers? For $18K and all the not-so-insignificant annoyances you mentioned this bike is and will not be in my consideration set.

@@techguyMDI have 2022 Versys 1000 and would never trade it for this Suzuki. Too low gearing, worthless seat and design for 2-up riding, poorer wind protection, too sport oriented riding position, and less torque through lower portion of rev range. The Suzuki has better display, quick-shifter, more top end power, and more attractive design. If Kawasaki released new Versys 1000 with VVT to give best of both worlds I would upgrade tomorrow. Better yet also with self adjusting valves then they would steal huge market share from competitors.

@@valebliz Suzuki GX is more comparable to Ninja 1000SX. My brother has one and I have ridden it and would not trade for the Versys. He is slightly younger but I ride many more miles. To suggest this Suzuki GX has a pillion carrying capability is a gross exaggeration. Surely not for any distance more than 50 miles round trip. The irony is the individuals who have this kind of money to spend on a luxury good are not spring chickens. Why are manufacturers pandering to such a small sector of an aging out market? This is main reason adventure bikes capable of long distance touring with upright riding posture and wind protection are so popular. I prefer upright sport touring for long distance riding as opposed to adventure bike. Been there done that.

I own a 2020 BMW R1250RT, I´m looking for a lighter Sport-Touring machine, as my routes are short and plenty of twisties. The RT handles really good there, but I like to change bikes from time to time. I´m considering the Tracer 9 GT+ and this Suzuki GSX S 1000 GX. I´ve tested a Tracer 9 GT+ a few days ago, and that machine runs really good.

This is very similar to the T9GT+, to me, the Tracer feels a slight bit smaller and lighter but this has more of a "presence". You have a hard decision to make but at least you have choice 😁

Sold my FJR and after a lot of research i got the GX. Like it a lot and got a Givi box and will add what I need as I get used to the bike. In summer the screen on low is fine. 150 hp is fun. Better than the rest. Seat is good. I will get race stands instead of adding the weight of a center stand. Brakes are good and so is engine braking. I will get bar risers as sitting back on the seat induces a fair bit of forward lean. CC is great and so is the suspension. Just a nice all round light bike for the money and tech.

The title of this video is applicable only for your country I guess. Suzuki GSX-s1000 GX is 15,500 euros while Yamaha Tracer9 GT+ is 18,500 euros in Romania :) Tracer is 3000 euros more here so the prices heavily differ from country to country. That's why I bought the GSX-s1000 GX in an instant.

Would dropping down a tooth on the rear help? You mentioned it seems to like being in a taller gear and, it needs a 7th gear. Try dropping a tooth or two.
@NothingToProve
@NothingToProve 6 ай бұрын
Yea, it would but that would mess up everything else, speedo, 6-axis IMU, all the electronics are set up for the diameter of the two sprockets, therefore changing the diameter of the sprocket changes the geometry of the suspension, further complicating things. Probably wouldn't notice it much at first but when pushed, then the problems would raise it's ugly head.

I am curious to know what your verdict is on the seat hight of the (stock) S1000GX compared to BMW's S1000XR. I have nearly the exact same body shape than your's and having tried a S1000XR the other week, I could not help but just tiptoeing around with it and no way I could pose both feet flat on the ground. I was shocked if I'm honest and I wonder who that bike is made for... 6"5 behemoth ? The dealer said that the Testbike had stock seat hight settings although I cannot really believe that....
@NothingToProve
@NothingToProve 7 ай бұрын
Just get the low seat option on the 1000XR, then the seat height is 820mm off the ground. This, the GX is 845mm off the ground 😊👍 But yea, I can't really "flat-foot the normal XR either 😒
@koljak9125
@koljak9125 7 ай бұрын
@@NothingToProve It depends on the width of the seat as well. In the end it's about how you wrap your legs around the bike, The smaller the seat the more seat height you can compensate. I felt that the seat of the XR is fairly broad which makes the 820mm quite awkward for me whereas on my 1250RS where seat height is the same 820mm I can flat-foot smoothly. I wonder what the Suzuki's like in comparison...

@@tonychettleburgh8953 Oh that. I didn't have that with mine (gsxs1000f) but I did look it up in the shop manual. The shop manual actually gives very specific instructions on how to fix cam chain rattle. Generally, a piece of debris gets stuck in the cam chain tensioner, so you have to remove it and pump the debris out. It's like a 5 minute job.

Excellent question. No. V-STROM has better rider triangle, wind protection, 19" front, crazy reliable engine, more off road capable than the GX. Just rode my 1050XT from NC to Alaska and back. 10K miles in 25 days. Not a single problem. Few bikes I would trust in the middle of the Yukon on a rough road 500 miles from a dealer. Certainly not a Ducati or KTM.

This Suzuki GSX-S1000GX is probably a "great" bike,....however with the BMW S1000XR (a great machine as well) being so closely priced, which comes with a 3-year factory warranty, great BMW finance options, and probably better resale value, it makes it an easy decision for "me" to say NO to this Suzuki, but a BIG YES to their Vstrom 800 SE/ DE model.

I had a testride on the GT and I agree with your review. The motor sounds promising but can't deliver in lower revs. The quickshifter is the only highlight which is really smooth. The price for a Suzuki is too close to a BMW S1000XR which is far more capable and keeps its value after years.
