Personally I feel sorry for those early Taycan buyers, they were stepping into the unknown and they paid the price for it. Facts that many ignored, big saloon cars generally don’t hold their value, even ICE versions so a new technology EV one was not necessarily the right model to introduce. We have one in the family but we did it PCP back when Porsche thought they had the pricing right so are stepping out of it not costing us a packet. Only my opinion but because this technology is ever improving I think it’s mad to buy outright at the moment, better to either lease or PCP, at least with both forms you know the end cost for the period of ownership and if you don’t like it walk away.

@@TimRobson Go read up the thread. I believe insurance did end up covering it, but it took a huge amount of work on the owner's part to get the dealer and insurance to line up on the coverage (dealer wanted $72k, insurance was only going to pay $42k, IIRC). Additionally, the dealer kept his car off the road the entire time he was working out the financials, which took several weeks. The car was deemed too dangerous to drive (fire risk). They had available 330i plug in hybrid, C43 and base Taycan sedan with some preconfigure goods. Where I'm from they don't import the high end versions b/c they are a pretty penny, you can order them. I went for the Taycan knowing that in my country there is ZERO public charging infrastructure, but is was for daily use basically for my metropolitan area which includes 6 cities with an average temperature of 33 celcius during the day. I'm very happy with my purchase I've put around 15,000 km in that time.I charge it at my house every 2 or 3 days, perfect for my needs. I always keep an ICE SUV for my long trips. That has been my experience overall.

Of course you will still see a drop after you spend £70k on a second-hand GTS, if you buy one at that price as you suggest. It will drop to £40k in no time, then after 8 years the battery warranty runs out. All large four-door saloons have always lost a lot of money, that's nothing new. Look at the price of a four-year-old Panamera for comparison, the cheapest is £45k, only £5k more than a similar aged Taycan. The new Taycan is a huge step-up with about a 100 mile increase in range.

I agree with everything you said.a lot of non ev owners worry about range but if you can charge at home or have access to any public fast charger it really isn’t an issue if your ev can do around 250 in the summer and 200 in the winter. I started my electric journey with a i3 with 120 mile range which dropped to as low as 75 in the winter. Great for living in the city I had no issues but I moved to a rural location and it could no longer do. I got a Mercedes eqc with 250 mile range and I’ve never had to worry ever again! My next car will be a taycan, most likely sport turismo. EVs for me make THE BEST daily drivers, I get depreciation anxiety though so for me that’s the only kicker with EVs. Big luxury ICE cars (S class / A8 / 7 series) always depreciate steeply, so the Taycan has followed this. However historically Porsche cars have always had a low curve, take a 10 year old Cayman, they are still £30K which is half a new base 781 version for example. Does a 3 year old Taycan, that is 20% in range “less” than a brand new one offer great value….for sure if you can spend £50K and not worry about losing money. However how low will they go, if Porsche can’t shift the previous gen new ones in stock and the 1.1 new ones have “incentives” or just end up in fleet? Great pod as ever…

Wrong, and I'm feeling the pain with 50% depreciation. Love the car (including the Hans Zimmer sound effects) and it's plenty fast enough for me, like you I don't need sport mode, and the range is 250 in winter and 300 in summer which does me for a week. I normally change my car every two years but I think I'll hang onto this one because (a) I think it's great and (b) I don't want another horrible depreciation hit. Anyone who buys a similar used i4 now is getting a bargain, same as the Taycan.

Agreed with you, as a daily driver car, this is the perfect car. personally i won’t be able to get back from my CT TS, that i bought half the retail price, and shouldn’t depreciate a lot more quickly. Compared to my previous Macan GTS, no comparison, faster, more comfortable, more space.. of course move to the new one : no way !!

I totally agree with your mind-set comment, but my mind is damn stubborn sometimes. Rationally, those slightly longer stops on car trips are nice anyway. All I have to do now is, very rationally, convince my wife that she can just relax while we blast along the road at 200km/h to our destination.

People are too scared to get a secondhand EV because they think they are already half dead .. which if you watched Rory of Top Gear's recent videos, that just isnt the case. I am old enough to remember the video player era, and the best system, Betamax, was beaten by VHS! Solid state is coming. The key drivers are range and charging time. These factors are improving all the time. Not there yet for me. Cost of these cars means it’s a worry to buy if the technology is updated so quickly and impacts the value overnight. Truth with the Taycan, it’s more complicated than just comparing the economic side to an iPhone… many where bought by business people on cheap tax incentives here in the UK, it’s a victim of this rule and high initial sales, 1-2 year old leased cars then flooding the market and with the second owner only being a private buyer, far more cars than buyers exist. Many business owners selling these cars are probably not losing heavily if the loss is a tax write off? And if on a PCP/lease type deal a private owner is limited in exposure too, it’s VW finance that have had to take a massive hit on the difference between the promised buy back price and its true follow on resale value.
@brownhairydog64723 ай бұрын
Comparing EVS to phones is exactly the correct analogy. Mod cars and EVS even more so have become generic and pretty much offer the same features regardless of brand. A lot of this has to do with regulation but many consumers just want something reliable with heaps of features and don't really care about a logo on the front. Unfortunately. Jeff, save for very few examples. It's going to be harder and harder for EVS to stand out and that hits the luxury brands the most.

At the moment, the German government is thinking of increasing the top level of this tax relief from 70,000 to 94,000 Euros for new cars, net price. This would allow the possibility of leasing the BMW i5 40e as well as the Mercedes and Audi equivalents. I would love to lease a year old Tycan, especially as the prices have become so attractive. As the new price is over the planned 94,000 cap, I would have to pay 0,5% of the new price in tax. I love the car, but not that much...

I have a very specific question regarding the old and new one and it's regarding active suspension which should be much more efficient on the new one.

Everyone I know with a Taycan has had multiple issues from minor software, stuck charging ports to a full battery failure. It has put me off.

The Taycan price will continue to plunge to the point they will be rendered worthless. To me its the first disposable Porsche. I recently purchased a Macan and the Porsche dealership tried everything to push me into a Taycan, but to be honest and much as it was very tempting I could not justify or afford the constant depreciation. I will be moving to a Hybrid Cayenne hopefully next year.

One of the big problems with the porsche electric side was the horrific decrease in range in cold weather. Something that Hyunda, kia and tesla didn't suffer. I can't speak for Mercedes to be honest, but the porsche is by far still the best looking. I love the look of the cross turismo I just can't justify the battery efficiency.

Thanks for the vid mate. Apart from the deprecation(which is inevitable) it's nice to see someone not talking down on an EV for a change 😅 Honestly for a daily and if one does not drive long distances EVs are where it's at for me. Specially performance versions of EVs you sort of get the best of two worlds(not really but still). Most folks will laugh but I think the 2024 Model 3 Performance is a baby Taycan in many ways. I would love to own a Taycan GTS but even the used ones are much much expensive than A new 3P here in Sweden(the 3P will also deprecation at lot). For sure the 3P is missing many of the things a Taycan has like a indicator stalk 😂 ( mainly radar, sensors and a real 360 camera). But it has the performance for daily stuff, enough space at least for me, it's quite refined on the 24 model and the ride is pretty good and its also pretty efficient. However with the pricing you guys have in the UK for the Taycans it's crazy value.

when I tried to order a taycan GTS sport turismo at the beginning of 2023 the sales told me that he'll be happy to sell me other cars. I was kind of mad at him thinking he was acting like people at a ferrari dealer. Now I'll be thinking him for saving me all this money. let's be real, people driving 100k plus cars will probably keep their cars for 3 years max and trade it for another one.

16:54 Where is 422 miles coming from? Porsche figures seem to say 360 miles max now? Up from 320. They are saying 30% more and not a jump that big from 255miles. Such an important point needs to be accurate and transparent

The real-world range of the updated Taycan is about 320 miles, vs 200 miles for the old Taycan. Big jump for the updated car.

@@andrewhurstcars I’m reading 250 to 320ish? Can’t find 422miles WLTP anywhere. Porsche saying 30% increase in range not 60%. Range is so important any talk on videos like this need to be crystal clear.

@@andrewhurstcarsI’m more interested in comparing WLTP with WLTP as he is in this video. He talks about an 8% cost increase so this suggests he’s comparing 2025 with previous model not the very first. So a jump from 255 to 422 miles. What’s the source? Doesn’t seem to be Porsche. I’d love it to be true as I’m interested in buying one I just think a video defending its depreciation and recommending purchase needs to be crystal clear when talking about range which is a key topic with EVs obviously

I absolutely love Porsche as a whole, however, I will never purchase an EV! I have owned a new 911 RS America and absolutely loved it. Also owned a 2007 Carrera 4S and loved that also. Like many enthusiasts, I am attempting for years to purchase a new GT3 without success due to the games that dealers and others are playing with all of us. It's a shame that Porsche refuses to take control of the price wars that are currently facing all of us. In my humble opinion, Porsche should eliminate all dealers and start selling their cars themselves through centralized Porsche dealerships all managed by Porsche directly!!! Until then, I will continue giving my money to others.

Most of these are corporate lease or buy so depreciation isn’t really an issue and the renters would have had all the tax breaks, which are significant. Those tax incentives made record “ sales” for Porsche, underwritten by HM gov ( so effectively every taxpayer) Now all those arrive on the used market and there’s now no tax incentives at all for the used buyers….ergo massive over supply and huge discounts.

I had a C8 RS6 for 18 months and swapped out for the Taycan GTS. I have not looked back. Not once. RS6 is all reputation. The GYS is better - it just is 🤷🏻♂️ Funnily enough I lost over £30k on that car too…. Go figure.

Not sure if there's any other Canadian here, but are any other Canadians feeling kind of ripped that we keep being told by Brits and Americans that dealers are basically giving away used EV's? I don't think the Canadian market has got that memo. New Taycan at 4S at a Porshe dealer in like Montreal or the GTA is $175ish starting. Same car a year or two old off a lease with 10,000 km on the clock is $150k. By my count that's 15% , which is just standard depreciation rate for any vehicle...... wheres our Model Y's or Taycans or Polestars that are like half off??
