Padlets are good, I don't use them myself but have used them many times participating in professional development, very useful. Canva is also great! And yes, a good interactive board is extremely useful. This is a great topic - increasing student response rates is backed by Hattie's research and is shown to have a significant impact on student outcomes. Good video!

Thanks. These days I find any type of interaction online results in the most participation. I would suggest choosing 2-3 digital response routines so students can connect quickly. The only issues I have are the extra steps of connecting online, which is why I usually allow them to use their cell phone to scan a QR code.

Oh gosh, the technology is dizzying! That's the struggle for some of us. I only have the basic whiteboard with the projector on the ceiling. You have a really nice setup.

This video is probably dizzying because I condensed so much information, but if you can find one online routine to get students participating and stick with it, I think it makes teaching a little easier.

Thank you for sharing your tips. This year I have a class full of shy 14 year-olds. They stare at me and say absolutely nothing. I feel like a clown. I did not think of using media to help encourage them.

I’ve had a class or two like that. When it comes to full class participation in a lesson, I think online platforms would help so you don’t feel you’re talking to air. When it comes to each other, consider trying that “icebreaker” where they build index card towers. They have to find things they have in common with a partner. Icebreakers don’t do the trick 100%, but I find they help a lot in speaking

What a helpful video! I’m starting my teaching journey next week and I am terrified in the best possible way. 😬🥲 I am consuming as much of your content as I can. Thank you for posting your videos! ❤

Congratulations. Like you, I started in January. Twice! I started both my middle and high school teaching career in January. You will be okay, just be flexible and ask for help if you need it. Your students will need consistency, so stick to your rules and routines. Mostly though, don’t be critical of yourself. Best of luck to you! Enjoy your new students
