How come the Jackson 3 rc cards in Topps 2024 chrome aren't their true/first rc cards? Since it came out before update? I'm new so I really don't understand why...

When I say true Rookie I am refereing to the flagship rookies which is generally the paper cards in series 1, series 2, and Topps Update. These are the continuous sets from Topps since 1952. Every rookie of a player this year is their "true" rookie, but only one is the flagship rookie. The Topps Chrome rookies are great cards to target and may even be worth more. Thanks for watching!

Pretty good list Scott. Good order on production for the Rookies for this year. I like Paul Skenes as too as my wife and I saw his first game but I forsee a Tommy John in his near future. He doesn't throw that 100mph fastball effortlessly. He's putting everything into it. Not a good sign. I like Jackson Merrill's makeup as he seems to have that clutch gene so far. Churio seems to have a little more raw talent. ⚾ 🇺🇲

Great list! One player I am interested in is Tyler Black for the Brewers. He will not end up with a ton of RCs since he got called up late and only has had 50 ABs (pretty much only Bowman Chrome and Topps Update so far). His minor league stats have been pretty good and was a Top-70 prospect in all pubs. He should have a strong probability of making the MLB outright next year.

Pretty sure they have to play a certain amount of MLB games to be eligible, or be active on the roster at least. I'm not 100% on that though.

There is usually a cut off every year (usually in May) where the player has to debut by to have rookie cards that year. If they debut after that date they will have rookie cards the following year. Welcome to baseball card collecting. It is the best!

A baseball player is considered a rookie in Major League Baseball (MLB) as long as they haven't exceeded certain thresholds in a previous season: At-bats: 130 career at-bats Innings pitched: 50 career innings Days on active roster: 45 career days on an active MLB roster Now wether this applies to rookie cards, not sure. Interesting none the less.

@@jay8151 when I say “true rookie” I am referring to their true “flagship” rookie. These flagship rookies come from series 1, series 2, and update. This set is the set that is the annual release all the way back to 1952. The waters get murky when Topps introduces series 2 short prints, but my point is that these are what I prefer as the flagship rookie over the series 2 rookie sps. Other rookies like you mentioned are important, but these are the “flagship” rookies.

Flagship is generally considered base Topps cards. His Topps Chrome rookies are also great, but Series 1, 2, and Update are usually the "flagship products" alongside Chrome. So both are good!

I disagree about the SP not being their “true” rookies. The cards came out, they exist. They may be rare, it doesn’t mean they aren’t their rookie card. The cards came out, so they’re the rookie.
