Great review complete with some pertinent information you don't consistently get from other reviewers such as actual payload capacity. Toyota doesn't seem to understand that the people actually into overlanding are almost always people who buy used and modify their vehicles to taste. Trying to build a ready made overlander for the 12 guys that can't figure out which end of the screwdriver goes in the screw is probably going to be a flop. Especially for the price. It's sort of like when Chevy tried to build a ready made hot rod looking truck in the SSR or when Plymouth made the Prowler. Both companies missed the point of why guys love the old hot rods in the first place.

I work for Toyota..have for the last 13 years. I have yet to see a Trailhunter in person, but I can tell you that every single 2024 Tacoma's glovebox rattles and moves around like that...its embarrassing that Toyota let this slide. But...their engineering, design and manufacturing have gone way down hill with this new product line. To cap it all off...built in Mexico. First it was the Tundra..now the Tacoma and Land Cruiser..and soon to be 4Runner. Makes me happy everyday that I bought a 2024 TRD PRO 4Runner...last of the dinosaurs and last of the great Toyotas. The Glovebox along with those floor mats, (as simple as they both are), shows exactly how far Toyota has fallen.

There's some really good stuff on this truck. Absolutely love the under-body protection you get with this. The lift and suspension is outstanding. But you can already see the poor quality of the vehicle inside. The price tag is just silly. The simple V6 (wanted the 2.7L 4-cylinder) is one reason I got my 2023 Tacoma TRD OR ACLB, the main reason is the Access Cab doors which the 2024 deleted. For the amount of tech on the 2024’s it doesn’t override the craptastic build quality.
@OdysseyOffroad4 ай бұрын
That's a beautiful truck and very nice Tacoma. I think there's two big misses here on that truck. The first being the price is ridiculous, I know you get a lot but it's still very high for a midsize. The second big miss is forcing people to have a hybrid system not having it be an option. The point of this truck is for overlanding for over landing you're going to want that underseat storage and all of that gets taken up by a battery system. Just so stupid. I think to better play with these new tacomas is to get a TRD offroad which gives you all of the electronic offroad goodies and then just outfit it yourself.

Many folks dont realize how expensive alot of the aftermarket accessories, especially from ARB, can get once you start to build out a rig. Atleast this is warrantied. Very happy I went with a Bronze Oxide Trailhunter myself. A lot of people ding it for the price and I get that from most people's perspective. Not an issue for me. Also, they don't take into account that you're not gonna have much to do in the aftermarket. This is a truck for someone who wants to go overlanding tomorrow, not worry about compatibility of parts, and have it all under warranty. I would have put all of this stuff on here anyway eventually, better to have it covered by warranty than to not have that. Also, consider the value retention. Toyota retains value better than any other brand out there. Frontier for example might retain 10% of its value after 10 years. Tacoma, more like 40%. So are you really spending it or are you investing it? If it's out of your price range then that's that, but if it isn't and you just feel bad about spending that kind of money, this comment is for you.

Agree. Yes and yes. But I got a tazer mini to recalibrate the speedo plus all the other amazing things it does (have videos on the tazer mini). And gas milage took about a 1mpg hit

@john… Very true. We just got an SUV for my wife recently and test drove Audi, BMW, and Mercedes mid size SUVs. They were all just around that price and their fit and finish and interior quality were at least two steps above what is in the Tacoma. Electronics, digital displays were at least one step above and same price or less. But you don’t need to go to SUVs, any same priced GMC truck would be way higher quality for workmanship and materials used.

So many things bug me about this. The bed rack that looks like it came from JC Whitney, the garbage tires that will need to be immediately replaced, and the fact that Toyota can't seem to figure out how to mount front tow hooks in a usable place, unlike GM and Ford.

Last I read the hybrid battery is not sealed. Not going to work fording. Also when the battery is depleted you just have the 4 banger carrying extra weight off-road not to mention the laughable payload. 1245 lbs on an “overlanding” rig 😂 Junk.
@deantrainr4 ай бұрын
Not to mention a smaller gas tank; 18.2 gallons total I believe.😳
@is65664 ай бұрын
I think there are ton of reasons why this truck is problematic. Most important is the price but the 1,245 pounds of payload is not the issue. 1,245 pounds AFTER steel bumpers, full skid plates, and rock sliders is actually pretty good. The steel bumpers are at least 150 pounds added weight, skid plates at least 100 pounds and rock sliders also 100 pounds. That is 350 pounds that you would need to add when building an overland rig. This means the truck would need to start with about 1,600 pounds of payload to have the 1,245 pounds AFTER you installed the aftermarket parts. That is full size territory.

With the $26k I saved I could MAX OUT my truck with better suspension, a super charger, rims, tires and killer add on’s, and still be ahead by about $13k.
