2024 Toyota Yaris Cross vs Nissan Kicks vs MG 4 | HEV, e-POWER, or Full EV? | AutoDeal Comparo

It's a threeway battle between three very similar but different cars. In one corner sits the Toyota Yaris Cross in its HEV form. Running a Series-Parallel Hybrid system, the Toyota sets the standard for other half-gas-half-hybrid powertrains. In the next corner we have the Nissan Kicks, which burst onto the scene and made a name for itself with the brand's innovative e-POWER system that uses electric motors to drive the car and a gasoline engine to charge the batteries. Great review! It seems that mg just gave us an entry level ev with a lot of dlc's not available there only offense is just not including a reverse camera. If you want to have the full game you have to splurge in the lux trim. Features and toyota usually dont match 🤣 but my oh my good work on the features. Nissan made a really good vehicle its an allrounder without the range anxiety! Good job team!

The Kicks takes this for me (a standstill to moderate traffic city driver). Power-wise, I was surprised that the kicks was really great with minimal engine noise. The interior was absolutely meh and the usb ports placement is definitely not that ergonomic since it is aligned with the e-brake. The YX was actually the first one I looked at and was almost convinced to buy, however the test drive left me wanting more. The YX was really just a car with great features.

Nissan engine noise dampening is superb. I drive an Xtrail (2017) and it's so quiet, pedestrian won't notice kahit katabi ko na haha. Kicks ePower din ako. Better overall option.

Excited for our Atto 3, set to arrive next month. We still have ICE, but once we have our BEV, we will use it for our daily drive. We live in the south we normally spend 80-120 kms per day. 3-4x a week. We have a solar panel installed in our house already that’s why we don’t think to much of the electric cost, in fact we even give our excess power to meralco.

Comfort +practicality? Kicks have it easily. Reliability+ looks? fingers Cross, the Yaris does it. Knowing our country does have the highest electricity rate + not so accessable charging points? Full EVs cars- not yet on my list.

Nissan also gives 5 yrs warranty verssus 3 years for the yaris cross. Both provide 8 yrs warranty for the battery. that extra 2 years for Nissan is the clincher. I also dont like too much tech as in the long term it may give you headaches, ie defective sun roof, defective power tail gate, etc.

@carmelobasco3369 I used to have Toyota Fortuner back on 2013~2016, but Honda. It's possible to put singular order of spare parts in official or Toyota Showrooms. But big amounts you should get from after markets. Mostly, Toyota spare parts are easy to get & comparatively affordable than other brands. Besides the freight costs & exim taxation, you should consider. Thanks

Cost cut is obvious in MG4 to lower down the SRP. Power-wise, it can compete with some supercars, but lacking some tech makes it a bit disappointing. MG PH, what have you done? 😢

The Yaris cross in the pH is less fuel effecient than kicks. But just by a few km/l. I mean kicks can go up to 99km/l in one drive in certain scenarios. I understand the motor, though most of the time the ICE ain't running. So it's super quiet. Can be an issue to some people cause it's weird that you don't hear an engine noise.

typical electric/hybrid review, you don't mention battery range. The Yaris Cross is a great car except it only does 2km per charge on the battery, then it has to recharge. To me this isn't an electric car. You could almost crank a manual car 2 km on the 12v car battery, ok you'll melt the wiring and the started motor but these mild hybrid cars have zero range

Resale value should not be a factor in these reviews IMO, as that is too subjective. Like what another user said, it will be biased to Toyota; I'm willing to bet even if the MG4 and Kicks are well maintained and/or proven to be sturdy, the Yaris Cross will still have a higher resale value, even if it's not as well-maintained, because of public perception on Toyotas vs other brands. Also, you buy a car to drive it, not to sell it, but that's just me. Pwede pa ang reliability, but that would mean autodeal would have to review every car when it's released, and after a few years. Might be considered too much work for too little value.

YX nakakadalawang isip bilin due to nvh issues plus airbags might suddenly deploy dinagdagan pa ng safety ratings fiasco. Ung nissan kicks naman issues din sa aircon at infotainment plus outdated interior. Mg4 is good option if only for your 2nd car since hindi pa ganun kapractical full ev as your only car not enough charging stations.

MG4 was leading along the way, until the category of “SPACE” was thrown in. Why include space where a hatchback will surely lose among crossovers. Really biased against MG, even in previous comparos 😢😢😢 Aren’t the units used for nissan and toyota the top of the lines in their respective brand, compared to only the base unit for the MG? Another point of comparison not apples to apples.

hydrogen ICE engine is the way to go and sustainable. liquid hydrogen can be produced through nuclear energy. no need to mine unlike batteries, solar panels, wind turbines. Uranium is widely available anywhere and does not cost a lot to the environment and economy. EVs are a big joke
