Excellent comparison. It's still a matter of priority. If you have lots of money, and appreciate the joy of driving, the HRV will beat the 2.

Hi, just noticed the remark at the end “even w/o double points, TCC would have won by one” computation actually without double points is TCC = 20-3, Kicks = 19-2, and HRV = 17-1 which makes the TCC and Kicks a tie. And honestly, there was very lil diff between the two’s consumption 27:25

For me the back seat comfort is a tie. Cross elbow space is lesser while kicks has more while leg room the otherway around. For the fuel economy, the other 2 are in eco mode while kicks is in normal mode. This one is clearly not fair regardless if kicks is using regenerative braking which should be part of the equation. Kicks may have even beat hrv in terms of braking if set in eco mode due to regenerative braking assistance as well.

Your 1st test, the 0-80 kph is invalid since you revved the HR-V so that the turbo would be spooled before starting, that's not how it would be used in the real world. Just floor the throttle from idle RPM for all 3 cars, using it's sportiest accelerator mapping. And why the arbitrary 0-80, just make it the standard 0-100 kph test. If you want to test in-gear, highway overtaking then test the 80-100 or 80-120 kph acceleration as well.

Interesting test, however you never covered the driving experience at all. The Kicks being 100% electrically driven, would have a hugely different driving experience than the other two. Examples of which would be NVH levels, 1 pedal Driving, instant torque of 280nm, ie all the benefits of a 100% electric drive train. This plays huge to anyone that enjoys driving.

I really like the TCC, for me the looks are superior compared to the two. I got a chance to test one last year and didn't really take a seat on the 2nd row. the 3-2-1 point system gives each category relatively equal weight regardless of how much better or worse the other cars performed, making the results seem closer that they probably are. the 21 and 20 km/l performance is 66% better than the 12.1 km/l performance but this isn't reflected in the 6-4-2 points. same goes for the other quantitative categories like acceleration and braking.

@nikytamayo2 жыл бұрын
It's a difficult choice. Eco mode on the Kicks uses fairly heavy regen braking, which isn't most efficient on the highway. But in traffic, we did toggle between the modes. Yes, I would like a rematch.
@cmp102 жыл бұрын
Eco/Sports mode (with B-mode) can be efficient in highway drives. That's what I use. You have to get the hang of applying appropriate pressure in the pedal though. It requires a day or two to get used to which I understand that this review might not have.
@nikytamayo2 жыл бұрын
@@cmp10 true! We did get the hang of it later on. There's a narrow window in the pedal travel in which you can coast without losing momentum. Hope that Nissan makes that window a little wider in the future. One pedal driving is quite convenient, but needs to be a little easier to master.
@Makeeman2 жыл бұрын
@@cmp10 same here, I actually use Eco + B mode, because you can actually feel the usefulness of e-pedal Step. Eco mode can be useful also in the highway, you just have to maintain at a cruising speed :) Normal is good for coasting but, if you can't coast continuously in a highway, better switch it up to Eco or Sport :) you'd get better FE either way.

Great review! is the fuel efficiency test a combined city and highway drive? I can't believe toyota cross is still better, although just a little. Btw, Nissan Kicks VE variants (non-leather seats) not only gives up leather seats and fog lights, but also 360 camera view. right? So VE vs top variants has a hit in safety. and considering Kicks has the worst in safety features between the three, that is a big hit. First time I learned that the Toyota Cross is a much safer car, my mind is set for Kicks. But still, budget wise, Toyota Cross is a bit too expensive for me. My dilemma now is Kicks Ve or VL. Leather seat is better. But my butts gets hot easily (experience in gaming chair even in an aircon room) Fog light is not really a concern for me honestly. 360 camera view is actually the biggest concern for me. So can you clarify that one? is 360 camera view only for VL?
@ChelseaandCo. Жыл бұрын
Yes it is. I'm also debating whether to shell out the extra 200k for the VL's 360 degree camera
@gregrodrigueziii8075 Жыл бұрын
Its VL only. Im a VE owner and the driving experience is just great. You know you could be faster than anyone if you need to overtake. handling is very good. Its just a different experience. A friend of mine who drove an EV said, it drives exactly like any EV. super quiet. I personlly think the VE at that price is tough to beat. regarding 360. Never really had an issue without it. I personaly dont find it necessary, but I understand some do want that luxury. But in any case you could always buy a third party 360 cam/dashcam less than 10k which has better quality video wise, If you really need it. wont ruin warranty as it can be done without cutting any wires.

@@Tleilaxu_Mentat The official speed limit on open roads is 80 km/h. 60 km/h on radial roads. It's only the paid, privately managed tollways that have a 100 km/h speed limit. 80 km/h is also the speed used in Car of the Year Philippines back in the day as an alternative measure to 0-100 km/h.

@@nikytamayo You were testing in private roads right? If the roads were long enough and there's no other traffic then I see no reason why you didn't just make a standard 0-100 test. The HR-V also had an unfair advantage in that test since the engine was revved high enough to spool the turbo before starting.
@nikytamayo2 жыл бұрын
@@Tleilaxu_Mentat That's the rub. The road was not long enough. To safely test 0-100 times, you preferably need at least 400 meters of straight road (though a 1 km strip is preferable), to give yourself at least 100m of space if there are issues. I have alternate areas that are closed off to traffic, but neither of them were available during this shoot, so we made do with what we had. ;) Yes, that would definitely be an advantage, but the HRV's CVT doesn't allow you to torque brake effectively, so it's still a slow take-off, especially when you compare it to the Civic with the exact same powertrain. We often debated "take off" techniques in COTY before, but the conclusion was that "gentle" and "aggressive" were highly subjective, so just do what you can without destroying the car. Still, noted on that. We were discussing simply measuring passing power (like from 40-60 kmh). But we are still threshing out what is the most useful x-y metric.
