I’m glad you got to spend some time with it. It’s insane how this machine eats up steep tech. Picked up a frame in June and have it built with a 140mm Yari. I would love to try it with a 150mm Z1air. Mines just under 34lbs, but the way it feels, like a spring, it feels like it transfers energy very well.

awesome video josh, you know i've been waiting for this one for months now! i'm still considering trading the Hello Dave in for this frame... i'd have a better parts spec and i think this new transam is probably the perfect scaled back version of the On One which is probably actually too aggressive and long!

Thanks man! Yeah I think it'd be a great replacement for the Hello Dave, though maybe not quite as planted on fast, steep chutes. But more fun everywhere else!

Been riding mine for a month, coming from a full sus trail bike for several years, and I love it. Totally agree with the assessment though, really fun going up and down but a little vanilla for accelerating on flats. Probably a faster rolling rear tire in the future, but this bike really feels like a do it all bike from greens to black diamond trails where it comes alive

Anyone tried those SR Suntour suspension seatposts? They're kinda like a seatpost but the actual clamp sits on top of a sort of Parallelogram looking assembly, with a mini coil shock doing the damping. I believe you can get different spring rates too. I have always thought that'd be awesome on a Hardtail. They're pretty inexpensive too, unlike everything currently!

I am not going to lie, pretty sure I think this is the best iteration of the rootdown geo esp with the lower stand over height and dropper clearance. IMO you need exo at least to prevent punctures, including a good insert, this is more on the aggressive side of hard tail if not even enduro with the right fork. Btw fork and brakes make or break a hard tail. You want the highest end to dial in the fork as you can benefit by the more incremental of changes

Yeah the low standover/straight seat tube is huge on a hardtail, I think that alone bumps the capability of modern hardtails up a ton!

For the Central Oregon trails a full suspension XC bike is prob the best choice. Just don't have that much tech or descent. Personally I like the Trek Supercaliber SLR.

We have PLENTY of tech here. Just gotta know where to find it. Having bought a trail bike recently has really brought joy to my rides due to seeking out the tech and trying stuff i didn’t want to pedal on a 180mm travel freeride bike

Definitely best enjoyed on a short travel bike! Though for me personally I prefer something with a bit more aggressive geo. Been riding the new V5 Ibis Ripley out here quite a bit and it’s a hoot on our terrain!!

For sure, this definitely is trying to hit any weight goals! Probably a better way to think about it is as an enduro hardtail; with the right skill level you can take this anywhere you’d take your enduro bike, albeit a bit more slowly haha
