From one stumpy to another, another great review, and I really appreciate the visual reference of you sitting on the bike in approachability. You don’t always get that, and for the vertically challenged, it’s always a factor worth consideration. I really like the looks of that scrambler. I think Triumph have addressed that segment of the market very well.

Great looking bike, and the video and sound quality in this blog were perfect, giving us a palpable sense of cruising along those beautiful roads. I imagine this project is a great source of pride for all the designers, engineers, and constructors involved. Spokes equal tubes on a budget bike. I don’t want tubes for the road ( I never want a front wheel puncture on a tube again !) so cast wheels are a plus for me. What a gem of a bike, never thought I’d want a 400, but this is just great.

I am a stumpy and have just came back from the Picos with my Tiger 1200 gt pro that sits lower than the scrambler but as your vid shows that a little bum wiggle on a lighter bike sorts that. I am a Triumpher and this will sit nice in my garage especially at tha price. Keep up the good work.

They are a really nice little bike. I'm 6' and 120kg and i can tell you it still pulls ok round the roads in wales and the cotswolds. No problems overtaking even with me on it. Certainly no issues with you on it as you found out. GLad you enjoyed the ride. Im not a fan of the speed 400 as it feels too small especially with me on it compared to the 400X. You would probably be fine as your only a little un. Performance wise though it pulls the same and handles well its just the size is the issue for me, so the bigger scrambler is what I prefer.

Great. Sensible review on launch. Im taking a test ride on both tomorrow afternoon (Mumbai). At 165cm, 66kg I should be OK. What the heck, I'm riding a Tiger 850 Sport for the last 3 years, but with the low seat height of 800mm, very secure feel both feet on the ground. Hope Triumph does a low seat version for the Scrambler. I would like to power downgrade (at 74years its about time)😂😂.

@@neog3461 Absolutely! My favorite bikes are mostly between 50 and 60 bhp so I could very well live with a 48 bhp class bike if it was light enough. Such bikes can be driven very actively at legal speeds. Nobody needs more! 🙂

In India where I'm from these are currently selling like "Hot" Cakes. These are manufactured in India and sold worldwide. Triumph has many plans to launch different kinds of budget models in future. Nice review as usual Kate ✌️

This has been a long time coming, remember us discussing these last year at devils bridge! Seems to be a half decent machine, scrambler bit tall for some perhaps? As for brakes I'm sure they're fine, maybe you've not tried older middle weights with single leading drum brake up front, yank the lever and pray!! Were pampered nowadays 🤔😊😊

Triumph need these bikes, somehow a younger purchaser base has to be created. I read somewhere that the average age of new bike purchases was 59 last year. These also could be the perfect "return to biking" purchase.

Great review Kate, lovely to see Spain coz I’m touring there this year on my Tracer 9😁 I’ve also got a BMW G310R (which I share with my son), and I gotta say it’s fantastic to have a fun, nippy smaller bike to do the running about on, and to cane it down the back roads 👌🏽

Spain is a paradise for motorcycling. It was great to see you enjoying your ride. I am very lucky to live in Andalucia (southern Spain). I have lovely twisty mountain roads like you were on within 500 metres of my home. That looks to be a great bike. Might suit me when I need to go to a lighter bike as I get older (age 69, male quite short). 40 ish BHP, should be enough for fun, and long distance touring. Hopefully economical too.

Two good bikes here from the big T, but which one should it be 4 me? I think i'd go for the Speed if you twisted my arm for a decision, although I do like that Green! A good review here again (having seen your Street review first). Considering its name Scrambler and its layout/style, it was good to see you ride a couple kms on an offroad "light" track (even if only for a minute), for to all those who would do off-roading on it.... hi Mike! Hope you had a little private time to enjoy the warmth and the area at your own pace.

Nice review, well done leaving those boys behind too! Hard to find anything to criticise on these little bikes, but I feel they don't look 'different' enough to the twins somehow - no 'USP'. Nice enough looking, but too samey. Looking forward to a test ride when they finally land on the Isle of Man.

On those really good roads in Spain the budget suspension handled everything OK but am looking forward to how you find it on our crappy roads. As a single owner myself, although mine is a 650, I just love a big single thumper.

Really like the look of both 400cc as a commuter bike. Prefer the scrambler, but think Speed will look better with a top box. Incredible value, at only slightly more than my annual rail ticket, and not paying for car park or station coffee as well.

Thank you for the review. I too own a Scrambler 400X, and have done my first 1,000 Km on it now. I love it. One thing I noticed though, is that at low speeds - anything below 40 Km/hr - the motorcycle exhibits some jerkiness. It doesn't matter which gear I am on. And this happens on perfectly flat, smooth road surfaces while keeping a steady throttle. It does not go smoothly, but rather continuous back-and-forth jerking, and the slower you go, the more noticeable it is. Is this normal? I am looking for feedback from people who own the bike. Is this a normal single-cylinder behavior, or is there something wrong with my bike? Thank you.

What is the weight limit on the Triumph 400x ?! I am always confused about the full load weight! Do they count the total weight of the bike + how much on the top or only the load weight without the bike?! Thanx ✌️😎

I had the trident 660 which triumph did a recall on for incorrect sourcing of the material. Did not really give me confidence in the build quality that they did not pick that up poor quality control. But having said that they replaced all the parts free of charge just not sure how it could of passed be sent out like that

Usually my winter roads...the film, 'The Counsellor' (Brad Pitt,Cameron Diaz,Michael Fassbender,etc)was filmed down in that region (not El Paso,Texas) with that horrific Yamaha R1 scene :o That's a RTW bike,you take bikes like this,or the Honda CL500,bikes you can paddle through Colombian mud,dig out of desert sand,not GS1300s or high compression KTMs...engines don't like 3rd World fuels,never mind the weight and complex electrics...I'd have one,might even use one for that very purpose, once I'm mended...I'm due a long sunny break!

Thanks for the test Kate.. hope you had a good time in Spain. Apart from the new engine which looks and sounds great I could not be more disappointed with the rest of the spec of the final bikes.. we were promised a baby Bonneville but instead we got a monoshock, cast wheels and gold upside down forks .. none of which say Bonneville or even classic bike to me. Maybe they’ve got a classic version in the pipeline using this engine coming later in which case I’ll save my money until then.

I think you seem to get what you pay for with this bike so the brakes and suspension are fair for the money. It's half the price of a new scrambler 900 and that shows in the fit and finish. Certainly seems an excellent commuter and fun on country roads.

In the modern world I personally think that liter plus bikes are coming to the end of their day, with the increasing restrictions on speed and hugely increasing cameras ect what is the point of a huge 1000cc riding that in a 20mph area will be stupidly frustrating, as the song goes 'the times they are a changing'
