He made a lot of putts as well. 16 was the killer. He had the subtle lefts, his natural miss, most of the back 9. Fundamentally at the end, Bryson got up and down and Rory didn’t, mostly because Rory had a downhill big slider, Bryson, uphill and straight. That’s golf. He still made 2 million. It’s just golf, he has 4 majors and lots of seconds and 10 more years. He’s good

@StuMarston - How about being a gracious loser? We teach children to be a good sport, handling defeats like adults do. Then we watch multi-millionaires, who play a game for our entertainment, and in this case having won majors, but Rory couldn't face the press nor at minimum congratulate the champ? He didn't even give the public and press the chance to show him some empathy. Yes, it was a painful defeat, but guess what, he'd be more than available for Bryson if the results were the opposite. It's easy to console others when you win, easy to meet the press when you win, easy to be a good sport. How 'bout when you lose. Decent people feel for Rory having lost ( the way he did ), though that can be short-lived given the way he exited the tournament after defeat.

Watch that putt on 18 in slow-mo. He hit that putt well. Ball went exactly where he was aimed. And IT BROKE A CUP. It's stupid hard to put a cup of break on a 4' putt. He didn't choke; that's just the way the statistics is. He made some great putts and then missed some tough down hillers. Can't knock him as he played some great golf on a tough course. Bryson just out played everyone. Simple as that.

Pros shoot thousands of these putts, and no one’s 100%. Time and Chance happen to them all, just far less often for guys like Rory. He hit some incredible putts to close the gap… he didn’t choke, his low probability misses just came at a bad time. It’s always easier to point out why the second place guy lost than why the first place guy won… give the man a break would yah.

I'm not saying this WILL happen, but the last time Rory had a major disappointment of this magnitude was 2011 Masters. He bounced back and won the 2011 US Open. But that was 22 year old Rory, not 35 year old Rory with significantly more mental scar tissue. I hope he bounces back but leaving the scene of the crime w/o talking to the press is a bad look.

@@lrn_news9171 in a vacuum, yes. But Rory was 22 then. He was seen as having all the time in the world to recover from it. He’s 35 now, and major-less in 10 years. This stuff gets harder as you age, not easier. It makes this major loss more mentally punishing because he knows that he doesn’t have as many dominating years left at the top. The fact Rory left the crime scene then posted on FB he’s taking time away from the game… illustrates he’s more shook over this loss vs 2011 Masters.

Got lucky on drive on 14, crowd stopped it from going into the trees, and would of had to chip, but has clear shot to green with a good lie, misses an easy 2 ft putt on 16. Kept pulling shots on the closing holes, but his misses were mostly to the right on the holes before. Hit the putt on 18 too soft, if he misses that putt to tie who cares about the come backer. Pressure always exposes your mental game and swing flaws.

I don’t dislike him but I think he has some major maturing to do for someone who has the stage he has. His supporters should tell him so. Appreciate your perspective.

Rory hit it so much better than Bryson , not sure how he lost it again … very frustrating … also it’s funny how they talk about Bryson and his speed and his size and Rory got up to 190 ball speed and didn’t really seem to be swinging hard like Bryson … also Bryson wasn’t hitting it that far with the higher speed , according to their numbers he was only carrying it like 317 at the most

bryson has fixed wrists, so he has to swing harder. rory uses flex wrists like most golfers and so generates a little extra oomph from there.
