You recommend Alvarez over Eastman? I was looking at the E8D, but hard to make up my mind and also don’t have any way of demo’ing either. I’m not a bluegrass player, but I want a good dread. Was going to go used Martin but decided to buy new and also want to get one from a mom & pop vs Sweetwater or other big box chain.

@@RRW276 You could just get an E1D. I'm not sure if the more expensive Eastmans actually sound better. I have a regular E1D with Martin Phosphor Bronze (the treated long lasting ones) on it and it sounds really amazing. With those strings it's great for all kinds of playing too. Whatever you get, I recommend buying from somewhere with a return policy in case you don't like it. Also experiment with different strings and picks because they make a huge difference. E1D Deluxe is another good option although I haven't played one.

I watched this after playing about 3 hours for folks who can't get out. About an hour was played alongside a violin or, at times, a piano. The dreadnoght with new Americana GHS medium strings sounded great. Even noticed by audience members. What more could I ask for? Only one $6K guitar in this video was of interest. John has done a great job of providing me Eastman D-58587 and Bourgeois instruments that fit my needs. Thanks

This is tough because nobody is currently making an affordable Large Soundhole dread, I would probably go with an Atkin White Rice at the moment for best value, maybe even a Gallagher. THey are both at just under the 6k range but man they are incredible. Keep an eye out for new stuff at NAMM this year as well, you never know what brands are working on behind the scenes!

What do you guys think of the PRS se acoustics, the a60e in particular, looks good with the ziricote back and sides, I've only heard it in you tube videos and it sounds pretty good, wondering what you think of it!
