My local shop had a 46' j45 and a 62' SJ. I bought the SJ because it was in better condition, but the neck on the J45 was great. I regret not buying both.

The J-160E is very unique in that the pickup screws are threaded through the spruce top. To remove or install a pickup you have to thread and start all the pickup screws simultaneously. Deciding mine was too noisy, I pulled the P-90 and put in a humbucker in 1973 or so. More recently Dave Collins at A2 Guitar installed a piezo under the bridge, grounding the strings, as well as making the guitar stereo without drilling new holes. The knobs now blend the two feeds, and the cancelling effect lets you turn it up. The stereo cord allows two channels of signal, conceivably you could mic it for a third. Mine is the square shoulders early seventies iteration, has been traveling much of the time and does not look minty. She sounds best on the shore of a body of water, just a strummin' and hummin'. Oh, Agnesi's jacket zippers always make me yell at the screen, Hahahaha!

15:00 i bought a 66 J45 back in 1975 that was cherry sunburst, i still have it, the pickguard fell off in the 80's and the cherry has faded completely, it's a toasty golden brown all over now - on my channel.

It's absolutely mind-blowing to me that all these guys like their Gibson acoustics! I've never played a Gibson acoustic I liked (other than their earlier archtop guitars)! All Gibson flattops I have played have a plastic-ish midrange that I can't abide by. Amazingly, I don't like most Martin guitars either, although I do understand why Bluegrass players love the dreadnaught bass-heavy sounds of them, as that's just what a Bluegrass guitar needs. There is a whole world of handmade acoustics out there, such as James Goodall, Bourgeois, Collings, and way more with much more articulate answers sweeter tones, and even Taylor & Santa Cruz have very nice tones, all of which are easily within the price ranges of these players!! Maybe they just don't have the time to try such guitars????

I love the look and sound of the jumbos, but no way my tiny ass could ever play one comfortably. But my dream acoustic has always been a J-45. The sound and look are both there for me. I’ll never get one until I’m older and retired (only 30 more years hopefully! 😂) because Gibson acoustics are ridiculously expensive, but I’ll get it one day when the savings have gotten to the point I can survive the purchase.

All I got left of 1960 Gibson J 200 is the case I let it go in 1992 not knowing of Brazilian Rose Wood etc. as I traded it on Maple Simon Patrick that is excellent guitar which I still have for my cowboy strumming .The reason I let J 200 go it was damaged and needs a lot of work bought it as used in 1965 for 500 bucks and let it go for 400 ….yep gotta live and learn

The Gibson pick guards are so huge that they impede the top from doing its job. Without amplification they sound pathetic as an acoustic guitar. The double pick guard guitars are restricted twice as much. Less volume, less sustain, fewer harmonics. Where are all the Martin guitars? Any American made Martin sounds better than any of the guitars in this video. Better yet, show us a Foley guitar.
