Thank you for the comprehensive and good quality video! One thing that I never found on KZbin about the C40 or the XC40 is a good comparison between trim levels. The price difference between the base car and the top spec is large, and I don't know if an intermediate trim level spec would suffice. Most KZbin channels seem to be willing to show only the most expensive specs. Cheers!

Thanks! I understand your request and will write it down as idea. Usually the cars 'we' get from PR teams are full option which covers all features. But fair point as many also opt for other trims. Thanks! 😊

Thx for the test, Thom! I am a bit disappointed about the charging performance. My MY23 C40 Twin charged with 159kW at 36% at a Tesla supercharger a week ago. And it really keeps a high level (> 120kW) until around 60%, and then only it drops slowly

À bientôt : je me réjouis énormément !

Another great video Thom! I’ve always loved the C40 and this one looks great in the Cloud Blue, but I’ve ordered the new LRSM Polestar 2 because it’s a bit more value and because I’m in Australia so the extra range is key at the moment. Also I like infotainment and cockpit cabin and sleek but solid look. That new one-pedal mode is interesting, I assume that’s Volvo specific? Also I’ll be keen to see some more analysis and testing of the charging curve. I hope to own my P2 for at least a decade and the extra capacity means even when the battery unavoidably degrades, I’ll still have lots of range! I have not been able to find out much about the CATL 82kwh 27-module unit - I heard the modules are replaceable, which is interesting, does that mean in 10 years I can replace them with LFP modules or some other kind of tech and keep the car going forever! Ps I’ll also post this on your Insta feed

I drive a 2021 e-tron, and it doesn’t have OPD, just has the auto regen coasting, and I like it, especially in the Peak District in the UK. I did the drive yesterday and hardly had to use my accelerator. It’s also a bit more intuitive in that it slows down towards roundabouts and cross roads, must use GPS. I’ve ordered a MY24 XC40 recharge twin for December, so will be nice to have have a similar system as an option.
@willielarsson9651
@willielarsson9651 Жыл бұрын
Hard to believe such a premium car doesn't have OPD. Although my iX3 range doesn't seem that great on paper at times, if stick it in OPD, the regeneration is great and it increases your range.

Thom, thank you for your review. Regarding "Auto" mode for recuperation - initially I thought it should be quite similar to an IC car in engine braking mode. But seems it is not ) Could you tell you impression if auto recuperation mode can be compared with IC car engine breaking?

I drive an Ix3 and i have a family holiday long journey coming up which will incur charges on route, which I am concerned about. So the longer the range the better.

Good and informative video - however: WLTP 570km? In order to achieve that with 79kwh would require efficiency of 13.86kwh/100km (in perfect conditions!) - which you know is not possible, so why even report the WLTP fiction?
@thom-lov
@thom-lov 11 ай бұрын
@@dcartier1692 WLTP is the European standard which all car manufacturers use so I mention it to enable comparison to other cars. Then again, WLTP is the biggest nonsense ever which the EU should correct to reflect reality.

For charging… I haven‘t driven my 24 C40 Twin down to 10%, but I had it plugged into a 150kW charger at ~50% SoC and I was getting around 130kW dropping to 120kW as it went past 55%. Something seemed not right either with your charger or the car.
@thom-lov
@thom-lov Жыл бұрын
Charging is depending on so many factors. I experience that with my own C40 twin as well, sometimes super fast, a week later at the same charger you get less. Hard to exactly say why as the conditions differ often. Overal I’m quite happy with the charging of my C40, hence this one felt a bit disappointing during this exact charge. But again, probably bad luck this times

The auto one pedal drive is interesting. I don't like one pedal driving where you cannot coast; the only one pedal I've experienced you are either providing power or braking. Plus it makes my wife carsick. I don't want the car to limit acceleration because there is a vehicle in front if I step on the "gas" (if I understand correctly what Thom is describing). With adaptive cruise control or Pilot Assist the car will accelerate above the set speed if the driver applies more pedal. I wonder why auto one pedal wouldn't let you override it if you need to?
@thom-lov
@thom-lov Жыл бұрын
It was surely hard to clearly explain this. But eventually you can override it a bit but that takes too long and you press the ‘gas’ quite far in which also triggers a significant acceleration once it ‘clears’ you to go again. Eventually it was a confusing and unpredictable system. As always, thanks for watching! 😊

IMO, no review of or statement about range, and whether or not it is enough, is meaningful without focusing on winter range. Not doing so baits consumers into something that may not work for them 2 to 3 months if the year.

I just picked up the new MY24 AWD Recharge from the dealer and dorve it home for my parents. It will be their car. My impressions: - The suspension is way too soft and kind of nervous all the time, so the handling isn't well at all - The steering is also way too soft even in the "hard" mode of the software - Wihle driving you alswas hear the engines yelling - The allseason tyres from Michelin produce a lot of noice and they don't give enough traction at full throttle. The wheels are spinning, so the ASR works all the time. - The counsumption seems als quite high. Don't see any improovement to the older version. - The one pedal driving mode works very stupid. At first it doesn't do anything then after 10-20 meters it beginns to slow down abrupt.

I am watching your reviews very closely. Have a V60 t6 and axc40 plug in hybrid t5. Want to replace the xc40 with a c40 or xc40 (or a polestar 2) full electric probably twin engine, but need a car that would allow me to do 310-320km of autobahn at “decent speed” without having to stop for “refueling in energy”.
@tx617
@tx617 Жыл бұрын
Went from the V60 T8 to the MY24 C40 Twin and I do not regret it. Consumption in mixed driving so far around 18kWh. Will do a 600km trip this week, but pretty confident 300km segments are doable staying between 10-80% SoC at decent speeds. Besides… the electric drivetrain is lightyears ahead of the T8 in terms of power delivery and refinement.
