Sony hasn't become a majority shareholder in Kadokawa, they just upped their existing stake to 10%, becoming the largest shareholder.

Marty saying "if people don't play on ps5 they're going to wonder about the game with the robot winning game of the year" is really funny when the other podcast has the other half of the cast saying 'whelp Sony won the console wars so Microsoft and Nintendo went off and did their own thing while sony hasn't really been doing anything'

This game, like any year, is the best for gamers. So many different games coming out all having a place and impact on lives and some providing amazing experiences. Being a gamer has never been better because you have a huge selection of quality. Now as for gaming as an industry....

If you want thirty amazing games in 2024, there were at least thirty amazing games in 2024. If you want ten amazing AAA games you can put a hundred hours into, 2024 had that too. If you want the thirty most popular games to be familiar IP you can buy without reading reviews and just expect them to be good and last forever and never get tired of them... I mean...no... and how would that be good for gaming? One greedy analyst whose name no one cares about anymore wrote a ten page report demanding $70 games and gamers went, "Or I can buy a $40 game that's much better and then pay $30 for this AAA game in six months. 😂" And that's pretty great.

Should games constantly move toward or should they polish off what works? “Moving” forward leads to live service and jiminy cockthroat of blending everything together

KC the deaths in Spelunky are just representations failure, it’s not videogame specific, it’s the message “we learn from our failures and they help us grow so don’t be sad about failing” which is a pretty universal message. If we don’t understand these themes we’re asking for our media to not trust the viewer and to have to spell things out for us directly

You know what would be hilarious? If an AI Yahtzee chat bot refuses to say specific things that real Yahtzee has said in the past because it's programmed not to say questionable things.

It was a typical year for gaming. We had some high tier blunders and some hits, the industry conditions kept the momentum of sliding into shit while the loud voices in the industry kept blaming those pesky consumers for everything. Same shit, different year.

2024 has its highs (mainly for indies IMO), but the rest was a shitshow for AAA. I hope for indies to continue to grow and dominate, and for AAA to continue to spiral until they crash and burn.

2024 was an awful year for gaming IMO. Very few interesting games, lots of studio closures and layoffs, and a lot of the good games were either tainted by developer/publisher nonsense or were remakes/remasters of older games. I've been a gamer for almost 30 years and I can't think of a year where I've felt as down about the state of the medium as I have about this one.

I feel like this was a great year for interesting games. I’m curious about what you feel about this year has been awful. There were studio closings that hurt my heart, like Tango and Arkane - but Tango got picked up by Krafton (and Xbox hid HiFi from gamers under an exclusive for as long as it took to get them shuttered, so getting a parent company that won’t be exclusive might be good), but were there a lot of closures? The high profile ones really hurt, but I don’t think it was an epidemic of closure. And as far as tainted projects… I can really only think of Gaynor making Open Roads rough to play. I don’t really remember any other games I felt gross from the team about. The remakes suck… but I don’t think this year really embodies that at all. The coolest indies came out, there were really great console games. What was awful?

Insane take to say this year was bad. 1000xResist, Lorelei, Mouthwashing, Dungeons of Hinterberg. All excellent games

I feel like this is often someone who hates the marketing of games more than hates the quality of games. Games they assume are fun at $70 are harder to find while new fun games aren't familiar enough for them to spend 40 bucks. I could be wrong, but how many of these folks have played Animal Well or Balatro or Astro Bot or Lorelei and the Laser Eyes? There are often dozens of games people simply refuse to acknowledge exist despite being some of the best games ever.
@11clocky27 күн бұрын
What are you talking about? Dozens and dozens of great games came out this year. Among my favorites: Shadow Generations, Astro Bot, UFO 50, Rise of the Golden Idol, SteamWorld Heist 2, Mario vs Donkey Kong remake, Nine Sols, Minishoot Adventures, Mario Party Jamboree, Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble, Arranger, Mind Over Magnet, Shiren 6, Isles of Sea and Sky, Factorio Space Age, Animal Well
