I love coming in every January since I started following, to see your calendar blankets... but I have never been able to finish one 😅. so for this to have that "stand-alone" project aspect really makes this feel so accessible. for people like myself with not only a bizzy life but some let's say motivation problems. Having this be something I can make one and it can be done really will help with that hit of dopamine that really keeps me motivated in the hobby

This year's un-blanket dives in so deep into creativeness. It's great to have some head-start with preparing canvases in advance and then either go with a month's motif or come up with something on our own. This year will be super artistic ❤

Hi Jayda. My daughter studies computer assisted drawing. We are working together on this project. She is planning the canvas rows and colors and what appliques will be sewn on each month. I will be doing the crocheting. At the end of the year, she will have a blanket we created together. I'm so excited!

I’m curious, you mentioned standing dc. Do you tend to use that in your personal projects that aren’t for tutorials? There are so many little things like that or working into the back bump of the chain that I do all the time, but I wouldn’t do if I was showing someone that was newer to crocheting.
@JaydaInStitches6 күн бұрын
Hi! I do not use the standing DC stitch, I don't like it because I feel it's always too loose up top. However, many people have asked over the years if they can use one instead of a chain 2 because they like them and in this pattern's case, both a ch-2 or a standing dc work, so it's a personal choice 😊

Please hit the 👍🏻
@monikatunstall703 күн бұрын
Awesome! I made 24 rows excluding counting the foundation chain bottom is that correct? My measure is 14 x 13.5 as almost like a square. Strange. I counted exactly 36 st and 24 rows. How come? I couldn't figure it why.
@jonibates70256 күн бұрын
How do you have 36 st if you crochet in 3rd ch from hook? I can’t get my stitches right.
@IDontSuckAtLifeakaJanis39756 күн бұрын
Counting 3 backwards from the initial 37 chains... 37th, 36th **35th** you double crochet into the 35th chain and all the way across.. so that's only 35 stitches BUT those first two stitches you didn't use (37&36) count as your beg ch 2 aka your first double crochet (for this pattern)
@JaydaInStitches6 күн бұрын
Hi! when you dc into the 3rd chain, and the ch-2 counts as a dc, you already have 2 stitches, then you dc into the remaining 34 chains and that gives you 36 total.
@denisethomas2016 күн бұрын
Would a granny square boarder work with this ?
@JaydaInStitches6 күн бұрын
Actual granny squares? If you can make them fit, I don't see why not - but you can use the granny shell stitch too if that's what you mean: the stitch count and row count is divisible by 3.
@maureendiederich45716 күн бұрын
when counting rows does the first 37 chain count as a row?
@JaydaInStitches5 күн бұрын
Hi Maureen, no, the foundation chains do not count as a row. Row 1 is officially the first row of double crochet 😊

Can I glue everything down?
@JaydaInStitches6 күн бұрын
If you don't intend to make a blanket, then yes, but it won't look as neat and the glue could come unstuck at some point in the future (humidity, heat, time etc. can break down glue).
@snospmoht32524 күн бұрын
Did I miss something? In the next video about attaching the appliques you talk about the canvas being two sided or layers deep. But here you just talk about and show making then a single layer. Where/when is the 2nd or back side done and attached?
@JaydaInStitches4 күн бұрын
Hi! I'm not sure what you mean by two-sided? The canvas is what you see here. We stitch the appliques on in such a way that the sewing doesn't show through to the other side because it looks neater. If you don't care about how the back looks, you can sew things on anyway you like 😊

About how long do you cut your tails?
@JaydaInStitches6 күн бұрын
Hi Rebecka! It depends: For appliques, I make sure it's long enough to go all the way around at least 3 times; for weaving in, if it's slippery I cut them longer for extra weaving in.
