Great video! been really curious about that comparison. I have to note something -the last front-engined Corvette was the 1962 model. They've been front-mid-engined since 1963. The C8 is the first production rear-mid-engine Corvette. It does the others a disservice to call them front-engined - the engine is not over the front axles.

You are of course correct, they are front-mid engined, though it’s more of a “in front of driver” or “behind the driver” distinction

The Z06 should definitely be the track favorite, because that is what it is designed for. It has the advantage on track of being higher revving and lighter than the E-Ray. The E-Ray is a better daily driver (especially in inclement weather) and at the drag strip. It has the advantage of having AWD, more low-down torque and much more torque overall than the Z06.
@addictedtoslidingАй бұрын
You’re right, but it’s pleasantly surprising just how good the E-Ray is on track, it’s very impressive
@adamdavis9600Ай бұрын
I liked your description on E-Ray brake pedal feel - always a tough one to balance with hybrid, and (I'd imagine) especially with carbons. And also the note on minimal torque steer; what happens when the battery is drained, does it disconnect the front axle drive?
@addictedtoslidingАй бұрын
That’s a great question to which I don’t have an accurate answer. Though given the drive is never actually ‘connected’ per se I don’t think it’s disconnected, the front tyres just won’t be driving or at least not to the same degree. But it’s such a small battery (1.1kWh useable) that recharges so quickly so you’re very rarely going to be completely flat. And as ever with electric drive units, I suspect it is constantly adjusting its output with steering angle and throttle position and wheel speed but it does it masterfully well
@kirkadams9245Ай бұрын
It's almost impossible to drain the batteries due to the way it was engineered. One Corvette engineer was able to do it, but he had to do a lot to make that happen.
@joem7755Ай бұрын
The e-ray is designed never to deplete the batt.. it will sap some from the engine to keep tq vectoring and awd going.. at reduced power.. I think one GM guy got it to do it when he was doing like 20-30 cyclones in the snow for the NY ice ring show. in other words its something 99.9% wont face.. lol
@addictedtoslidingАй бұрын
I think this is accurate. It’ll keep a very low base level of charge to keep the AWD but you lose the extra power like what happened in the video. You sure notice the difference when the extra 120kW (160hp) disappears. But it recharges so fast it’ll only be momentary
@joem7755Ай бұрын
@@addictedtosliding I didnt see you or hear you mention it, but did you use the charge+ button but your knee? When some of the reviewers here in the states did some tracking with the E-ray they I believe used the button to charge faster just before and after the turns and then shut it off till the next one. It not ideal but seems to help a little. I wish they would have put a easy to get to button on the steering wheel for tracking, but of course this is the GT car. lol

Z06 is a fantastic track car but is not your daily driver.
@addictedtoslidingАй бұрын
I think it could be, though the tyres would be a problem in the wet or cold. Perhaps a set of regular wheels/tyres for street use
@intelligentinvesting1633Ай бұрын
Yes the CUP 2R tires do not work when it’s cold or wet. “the tires should not be used, stored, moved, or shipped at temperatures below -10°C (14°F). Lower temperatures can cause the rubber to crack, which is not covered by Michelin's warranty.” They also have limited range (5-10K miles)… the Sport 4S or the All Season are much better for daily driving. The Z06 engine (no AFM and high reving) is also excessively loud for passengers and even drivers on long(er) trips. Note that carbon wheels require specialized tools/dealers to swap tires. Most tire shops can’t do it… But, still Z06 is an awesome track car! No questions asked and hands down!

@billyhndrsn4542Ай бұрын
@@addictedtosliding the Z06 seems quicker with its confident grip with the Cup 2R tires, I believe the E Ray comes with the milder 4SSSS type probably due to the electric up front, maybe to grippy in front could cause electric driveline problems in time. So, does Australia get the US-spec, full 675 hp Z06 ? Or is it neutered like the Euro version, so as not to properly compete with their cars ?
