Its doesn't suck but it hardly stands out and remains average in many ways even with the new 2025 model. How did they both manage to lose torque and mpg going from a 6 speed auto to a CVT? Why is there only one interior color on most trim levels? Why do the rear seats not recline or move back and forth as they did in the past? Also where is the power option or hybrid? And a return of the Premiere trim level would be a smart move!

To be honest, GM's CVT hasnt really been focused as terrible compared to Nissan and other manufacturer's CVT. Also the Honda Civic has CVT and nobody's cussing that car's transmission. However, having an available non CVT auto transmission is always a good thing for customer choice. The weak point of the ICE Equinox is that it has only ONE engine available when it should have two or three, a non turbo variant of the 2.0L or 2.5L engines and a 2.0L turbo option.

Alex do you think the cvt in the encore GX feel rubbery?

Great question! I haven't sampled the CVT in the TB/Encore GX... only the 9-speed with AWD, so I'll have to try them and get back to you on that.- Alex
