My favorite video of the year!! Thanks for being so vulnerable because I know it can be tough!

I'm really glad you enjoy!! It's one of those topics I enjoy talking about, but also feel weird talking about at the same time, knowing that everyone can judge my finances🤣🤣

15k is definitely a lofty goal! I saved about $100 this year 😂 This video is super helpful, thank you!

I did $10,000 in investments this past year so $15,000 is defintely abit more of a stretch but I am determined to make it happen!!

I love that you mentioned spending more on going out to eat. My fiance and I made this goal last year and it was the best thing we could have done. I’m also a home body- but I realized when we did dinner at home, I was constantly getting distracted by tasks that needed to get done at home. We bought the Coopers Hawk Restaurant and Winery monthly wine membership. We do every Wednesday night (so I can mentally prepare myself for an evening away from home lol) and it’s been the best thing for our relationship. It gives us time to reconnect and catch up with each other and I truly look forward to that night every week. Highly recommend finding a restaurant you get perks or points. It’s a mind trick that makes you feel like you’re saving by spending 😂 CH gives us 2 free wine tastings a month. 2 bottles of wine to take to go or open with dinner and I believe they have a point system as well. After you spend so much you get different perks. The bottles also roll over every month if you don’t use them. Highly recommend if you have a CH up there!

Our only struggle is we live in a small town with no restaurants so we always have to drive 30-40min just to sit down for dinner which isn't bad but it makes us less likely to go out lol!

For me it’s a combination of doing a way better job of budget management but general personal achievements and family time/planning improvements. More vacations, better calendar of events, more fun stuff/hobbies, and all that stuff but it will require good budgeting and better finances. Both in the works, both absolutely doable with a can-do attitude.

My biggest goal this year is to break my shopping addiction. I have faced major lifestyle creep since graduating college and am so bad about "keeping up with the jones" FOMO. Needs only spending for the first 3 months while I pay down some debt + build an emergency fund and I will re-evaluate in March. I'm deleting all my shopping apps and I am NERVOUS!!!

Hey Carter, Happy Monday. I never pay for an app unless it’s car insurance, student loans, or car payment. I don’t pay for the app itself I just have the app for those things so it’s easily on me when it’s time to pay for everything and to see all of my documents even though I’m enrolled in auto pay. 😊 Me and my boyfriend are working on cutting down on our spending next year as well. I love credit card points, I have had my credit card for at least 2 or 3 years and it still gives me points luckily. 😊🥰

Love your budget videos sm! Just an FYI, your amount left to spend didn’t decrease at all when you entered your credit expenses so I don’t think that final math is mathing!!
@CarterSullivanАй бұрын
Ah thank you, good eye!! I did not catch on to that at all- will have to play around with the spreadsheet and see what happened there! I can't believe I did not notice in my 2 rounds of edits 🤣
@emona820Ай бұрын
it didn’t impact how good of a video it was at all - it was great and super helpful!! Just didn’t want you getting to next month and wondering what happened 😂🩷

Does opening and closing credit cards often not mess with your credit score?
@CarterSullivanАй бұрын
For reference, I open and close MAX 1-2 credit cards per year and always keep my oldest card open. I think at the end of the day it really depends on who you ask/the research you do and perhaps the country that you are in! My financial advisor advised me: always keep your oldest credit card (or two) open to show you have a long credit history. Since I'm normally opening/closing the card within 12 months it doesn't normally take a hit to my credit since it isn't affecting my credit history. It would be more major to close a credit card you've had for let's say 3-4 years. However cancelling a credit card may TEMPORARILY cause your credit score to drop a few points since you are shortening your credit history and increasing your credit utilization ratio but I've always seen it go back up in 1-3 months so my credit has never taken a hit long term. You also typically lose lose a few credit points for the hard pull on your credit when you open a new credit card and can sometimes lose a few more for having a card under 12 months of age! But overall it shouldn't impact your credit score long term. Just don't go closing a few cards then opening like 3-4 cards at once. Hope this was helpful!

A lot of my earlier videos back in like 2020 when I was actively paying off debt share a lot about that journey and tips! I followed a debt snowball method!

Disney plus does have a bundle with Hulu (not sure how much it saves if you have both or if it’s just a USA thing not Canada). Also some cell phone companies have packages with streaming services included, again maybe that’s only in the USA. For example I have an Apple phone with the Apple one package from Verizon so Apple Music and Apple TV are included monthly with my phone plan.
@CarterSullivanАй бұрын
I don't even know what Hulu is!!! But yes I think some phone/internet companies may offer bundle services for streaming!

@ I wonder if that’s the same in the states. My advisor never suggests to keep switching things up but I love maximizing the points!
@CarterSullivanАй бұрын
I would assume it's similar, maybe not identical but we have very similar credit bureaus! I feel like you guys have SUCHHH good travel CC's on the states, I'd defintely look into one for the new year! Even just finding a new everyday credit card would help you maximize points :)
