Love it!! I think 2024 will be a lot of maximalism and designs will get crowded. I do love Neo Brutalism.

The thing I think you need to have in mind with reviews like this is that these trends bear little or no relation to the everyday output of most GDs, at least the ones I know. The room to introduce these ideas into our work is extremely limited. That said, it is still good to see what’s groovy and take inspiration where you can.

By Far the most on point explanations of the coming 2024 trends. I've definitely noticed art deco colliding with 90's acid grunge and it is wild. Makes sense given art deco's popularity in the 80's, quickly ramping up towards the rebellious techno rave and grunge rock scenes of the late 80's early 90's Definitely potential for an unseen genre blending the two

Great video! Agree on all points. I'm not a huge art deco stan *cue flashbacks to the endless number of great gatsby parties we all endured in the 2010's* but looking forward to see how all of these trends grow over 2024. As you mentioned, I'm eager to see a more refined evolution of AI art and its incorporation into design workflows. I integrate a lot of animation and videography into my designs, and I'm hopeful that the vector graphic explainer video aesthetic as we know it will die and something new will grow from it.

But how do you, as a web designer, combine a graphic design trend with the client's brand guideline? Colours and shapes come together, and I can't figure out how to find the intersection between them all.

What I hate about these trend analyses/predictions is that they talk about my styles while hand waving the influences and not relating to why we love the styles in the first place. I mean could you imagine one of these channels ever explaining Liminal Spaces? Well they should be capable of doing that

What about the brands with strict brand guidelines on typography and brand colours? How can we use these trends to keep the brand identity?
@CreativeDirectorExplains9 ай бұрын
This is a great question. I think it’s important for designers to identify mediums where the brand needs to be a bit flexible (eg; social media) and then identify what’s right for them in those spaces. Another thing I like to do is find the ways I can stay within the guidelines but shift the feel of the piece. For example, if I’m making a video spot - the text and logo can all remain the same, but the underlying feel might come through in other ways. That’s always a fun space to play in.

Art Deco/ Art Nouveau samples def not in step with what is true of those styles. They are well established. The others are pretty loose on interpretation and bleed over into each other in an attempt to give something a name.

I find it so interesting how everything is cyclical. I personally love when old trends resurface (cough cough 90s fashion). But I do love when the trends come back and overlap and create something new or gets refreshed.

Excuse me‼️ Was this a recape on various design style or it was a glimps of upcoming design trend for year 2024-5❓ if yes then it is CONFUSING! what direction designers should CONCENTRATE ❓
@CreativeDirectorExplains9 ай бұрын
Hahaha thanks for your comment, but I dont think designers should necessarily concentrate 100% on being “on trend”. Rather I think it’s helpful for designers to see what’s going on in the trending space to have another tool in their arsenal. Expanding your visual language library, knowing what’s happening, simply adds to your ability to be a flexible creative. Following a trend for the sake of a trend might not be right for your clients.
@weholdparties11 ай бұрын
No offense to you because you’re just calling it as you see it, but these are all the same trends from this year and the year before and the years before that. I think we’d all be just as right to say anything is popular or that we’ve entered into a creative standstill.
@Nosensei8811 күн бұрын
Good take. What is one style that you think is not mainstream but is really underrated in your opinion?
@weholdparties11 күн бұрын
@@Nosensei88 Thank you for asking! Something I'm particularly fond of and would like to see more of is a particular style of naive collage. Ga-Ae and Nicholas Burrows are examples. I think naive illustration/design in general is having a bit of time in the sun (as referenced in this video) I'd just like to see more of it. Especially considering socio-political climates across the world are tenuous, having a bit more irreverence can be refreshing.

How can you call yourself a true creative when all you do is follow what the next creative is doing? This is bullshit!
@CreativeDirectorExplains9 ай бұрын
Hahaha I love your passion. I do feel it’s important to constantly add to your visual language library as a creative. The more you see and absorb, the more you can pull from when you need to make design decisions for your clients. Following a trend for the sake of following a trend isn’t a great move, but if it works for what your client needs to do then inspiration from other creatives can be a powerful thing. I loved the book “steal like an artist” by Austin Kleon, he did an incredible job at breaking it all down. And I noticed Jesse Nyberg just put out a great video about this too.
